Troopers Seek Assistance in Locating Wanted Sex Offenders

Dover- The Delaware State Police Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit (S.O.A.R.) is currently looking for the following wanted sex offenders.

Wendell Gunby, 55 of Seaford who is 5’06” tall, 198 lbs., with black hair and black eyes is a Tier 2 registered sex offender who is currently wanted for Failure to Re-register and Failure to Verify Address. He is known to frequent the Bridgeville and Seaford areas.

Aruis Cannon, 27 of Seaford who is 6’00” tall, 220 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair is a Tier 2 registered sex offender who is currently wanted for Failure to Re-register and Failure to Verify Address. He is known to frequent the Seaford area.

Harbeson Man Charged with 5th Offense DUI After Crash

Georgetown- Delaware State Police have arrested a Harbeson man with his 5th offense DUI after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at approximately 3:59 p.m. when Troopers were dispatched to Lewes Georgetown Highway in the area of Rogers Avenue in reference to a crash involving two vehicles.  Further investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Lewes Georgetown Highway when it crossed the center line and into the westbound lane, striking a 2001 GMC Sierra Pickup truck.

The operator of the Silverado, identified as 57-year-old Anthony Pupillo was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.  Upon the Troopers contact with Pupillo, an odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued. A computer check revealed that Pupillo had four previous DUI convictions, making this his fifth offense.  Upon Pupillo’s release from the hospital, he was subsequently arrested and transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony), Driving While Suspended or Revoked, and Failure to Remain Within a Single Lane.  He was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,501.00 secured bond.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was not injured as a result of this crash.

‘Building a Community of Diversity, Tolerance, Accountability & Trust’

On Thursday, April 26, 2018, a Town Hall Meeting on Police-Community Relations took place at the Mishoe Science Center Lecture Hall, Delaware State University, Kent County, Delaware.

This Town Hall was a collaborative venture with Law Enforcement, Legislators, Clergy, First State Community Action Agency, Inc., Delaware State University sponsored by the Delaware Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. All stakeholders supported creating an open, honest dialogue between law enforcement and communities across the State of Delaware. Our panelists were comprised of Law Enforcement Agencies, Academia, Faith-based Community, First State Community Action Agency, Inc. and Social Action Committee Members who helped guide the conversation towards inclusion for all, cultural sensitivity, building better relationships, respect for one another and finding common ground.

Troopers Make Arrest in New Castle County Burglary Spree

Newark – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man for his involvement in a string of burglaries that occurred over a four month time period, at businesses throughout New Castle County.

Troop 2 detectives have arrested William R. Marsh III, 42, of Wilmington, and charged him with 18 felonies and 11 misdemeanors, in connection with multiple burglaries at businesses located in Newark, Bear, New Castle and Hockessin, that occurred between December 3, 2017 and March 25, 2018.

Through various investigative measures and leads, detectives were able to develop Marsh as a suspect in the burglaries, and on Monday, April 16, 2018, executed a search warrant at his residence, in the 5000 block of Le Parc Drive, Wilmington. Marsh was located in the residence and taken in to custody without incident. A subsequent search of the residence produced evidence further linking him to the crimes.

The five burglaries and one attempted burglary took place at the following locations:

  • Tender Bones Rib Shack – 2504 Red Lion Rd., Bear (December 3, 2017)
  • Casablanca Restaurant – 4010 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle (January 13, 2108)
  • Phoenix City Restaurant – 2713 Pulaski Hwy., Newark (February 1, 2018)
  • Great Clips 6292 Limestone Rd., Hockessin (February 10, 2018)
  • Natural Nail Salon 6284 Limestone Rd., Hockessin – ATTEMPT (February 10, 2018)
  • Dunkin Donuts 1200 Pulaski Hwy., Bear (March 25, 2018)

 

Marsh was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 where he was arrested and formally charged with 5 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, 1 count of Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, 5 counts of Criminal Mischief Under $1000.00, 5 counts of Theft Under $1000.00, 4 counts of Possession of Burglar Tools, 3 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree, 3 counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited and 1 count of Possession of Marijuana.

Marsh was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $67,100.00 secured bail.

*UPDATE-Suspect Identified* Troopers Investigate Stabbing-Wilmington

Wilmington (19808)–  The Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate a March 9, 2018 stabbing, that left a New Castle man in critical condition, and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect.

The original incident occurred on Friday, March 9, 2018 at approximately 10:24 p.m., when Troopers responded to the area of Kirkwood Highway and Delaware Park Boulevard for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival they found a 51 year old, male victim with a stab wound to the body. The victim was removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Through various investigative leads and measures detectives were able to positively identify James M. Strong, 36, of Wilmington, as the stabbing suspect. Active warrants charging Strong with Assault 1st Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Weapon by a Person Prohibited are currently on file.

Strong is reportedly homeless, but is known to frequent the Elsmere and Prices Corner area, along the Kirkwood Highway (DE Route 2) corridor.

Troopers Arrest Wilmington Man for Liquor Store Burglary Attempt

Wilmington (19804) – Delaware State Police have arrested Barry R. Cline, 30, of Wilmington on multiple charges, after the unsuccessful burglary attempt of a local liquor store.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:47 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Boxwood Liquors, located at 630 S. Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, when a Trooper, who was on routine patrol in the area, observed a suspicious subject standing in front of the business. When the subject, who was later identified as Cline, observed the Trooper approaching, he attempted to flee on foot, but was taken in to custody without incident.

Upon checking the area, the Trooper discovered a cinder block laying on the sidewalk in front of the business and also observed that the glass, front entrance door had been shattered. Through further investigative measures Cline was able to be positively linked to the burglary attempt.

Cline was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 6, where he was arrested and formally charged with Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief Under $1000.00 and Possession of Burglary Tools. He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $6100.00 unsecured bail.

Troopers Arrest Smyrna Man on Multiple Drug Charges

Magnolia- The Delaware State Police assisted the Smyrna Police Department in executing a search warrant which led to the discovery of drugs.

The Delaware State Police were informed by the Smyrna Police Department that a suspect, identified as 19-year-old Kwamai Johnson of Smyrna was arrested in connection with a stolen firearm.  On Tuesday April 24, 2018, members of the Smyrna Police Department, Kent County Drug Unit (KDU), Kent County Property Crimes Unit, and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T), executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 100 block of Woodville Drive, Magnolia.

During a search of the residence, a Smith and Wesson rifle, 3 loaded rifle magazines with numerous rifle ammunition, 4,147 blue wax bags of suspected Heroin (approximately 29.029 grams), approximately 276.4 grams of Marijuana, and numerous drug paraphernalia items were recovered.

The Delaware State Police charged Johnson with Possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Johnson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center $51,000.00 secured bond.

Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of One Pot Meth Lab – Magnolia

Magnolia – Delaware State Police have arrested a Hartly woman for operating a one pot meth lab, after the vehicle she was a passenger in was stopped for a traffic violation.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:21 a.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018, when a Trooper stopped a silver, Volkswagen Jetta for a traffic violation on Fox Hollow Drive in Magnolia. Contact was made with the driver who was identified as Ashley N. Lane, 25, of Rehoboth, and the passenger who was identified as Sarah C. Bell, 30, of Hartly, both of whom were confirmed to be wanted on capiases out of the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.  Both subjects were taken into custody and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of materials commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Through further investigation it was determined that all the materials belonged to Bell and that she was in fact actively manufacturing methamphetamine at the time the vehicle was stopped. Due to the hazardous and combustible nature of the materials used in this process, the Department of Natural Resources, along with the Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit responded to assist with the investigation. The one pot meth lab was subsequently rendered safe without incident.

Bell was charged with Unlawfully Operating a Clandestine Lab and then committed to the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,000.00 secured bail.

Lane was charged with Failure To Signal, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and released on $300.00 unsecured bail.

Troopers Arrest Two Suspects For Copper Wire Thefts

Camden Wyoming/Greenwood– The Delaware State Police have arrested two suspects in connection with multiple thefts of copper wire from commercial irrigation systems.

The investigation began in February 2018, when several thefts of copper wire from commercial irrigation systems spanning from Camden Wyoming to Greenwood were reported to the police.  Through investigative measures, Troopers were able to identify two suspects, 23-year-old Taylor Provanchie of Harrington and 30-year-old Thomas Bradley of HarringtonIt was determined that Provanchie and Bradley had stolen over 1,000 pounds of copper wire and received over $1,800.00 in proceeds from the scrap yard.

Taylor Provanchie was arrested on April 19, 2018 and charged with 8 counts of Theft (Felony), 7 counts of Criminal Trespass 3rd, 6 counts of Criminal Mischief, and 2 counts of Criminal Mischief (Felony).  Provanchie was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $17,750.00 unsecured bond.

Thomas Bradley was arrested on April 23, 2018 and charged with 8 counts of Theft (Felony), 7 counts of Criminal Trespass 3rd, 4 counts of Criminal Mischief, and 2 counts of Criminal Mischief (Felony).  Bradley was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $28,207.00  secured bond.

Troopers Investigating Pharmacy Robbery- North Wilmington

Walgreens Concord Pike

Wilmington (19803) – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a North Wilmington CVS pharmacy that took place early Friday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:51 a.m., Friday April 20, 2018, at the CVS, located at 4020 Concord Pike, Wilmington, when two suspects, entered the business, confronted an employee as he worked behind the pharmacy counter and demanded drugs. As soon as the employee was confronted he alerted two other employees at which time all three fled the store on foot. As they exited the front doors, they were confronted by a third suspect who was waiting outside. The third suspect attempted to contain the three subjects within the store however they were able escape, but not before two of them were knocked to the ground by the suspect. All employees were able to get away without sustaining any injuries.

Further investigation determined that the two suspects who entered the business were able to obtain an undetermined quantity of drugs before exiting the store. Once outside all three suspects re-united and were last seen fleeing on foot, southbound on Concord Pike.

Descriptions of the suspects are as follows:

Suspect #1: Black male, 18-25 years of age, 5’8”-5’10”, 170-180 lbs., wearing all dark clothing. (Entered business)

Suspect #2: Black male, 18-25 years of age, 5’8”-5’10”, 170-180 lbs., wearing a black hoodie and jeans. (Entered business)

Suspect #3: Black male, 18-25 years of age, 6’0-6’2”, 200-230 lbs., large build, wearing a black hoodie and light colored pants. (Remained outside)
