Troopers Attempting to Identify Burglary Suspect-Dover

The incident occurred on the morning of May 13, 2019 when Troopers responded to the Uncle Willies located at 5485 S. DuPont Highway in Woodside. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the suspect gained entry to the business after breaking a window on the side of the building. The suspect proceed directly to the cash register where he utilized an object to pry open same.  The suspect was able to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash prior to fleeing the scene.  

The suspect appears to be a white male wearing Converse sneakers (Chuck Taylors).

*Traffic Advisory* Marsh Rd. Closed North of Carr Rd. Due to Motor Vehicle Crash – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a two- vehicle crash, one of which is a DART bus, that occurred at approximately 12:12 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 on Marsh Rd. at Rowland Park Blvd., which is just north of Carr Rd.

As a result of the crash a downed utility pole has caused the closure of Marsh Rd. in both directions. There is no estimated time for the roadway to be re-opened so motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.

*Traffic Advisory* I-495 Southbound Closed South of Philadelphia Pike Due to Serious Crash – Claymont

Claymont – The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash, involving three vehicles, that occurred at approximately 10:17 a.m., on I-495 southbound just south of Philadelphia Pike, Claymont.

As a result of the crash I-495 southbound is closed, with all traffic being diverted on to I-95.

Troopers Investigating Robbery of Lyft Driver – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Lyft driver that took place Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 when a Lyft driver received a text message via the Lyft app to pick up a subject in the Penn Mart Shopping Center, located at 101 E. Basin Rd., New Castle. The female driver made contact with a male subject who confirmed that he requested the ride, at which time he entered into the rear seat of the vehicle. The driver proceeded to the requested destination and after turning on to W. Commons Blvd from E. Basin Rd., the subject asked her to pull over, advising that he would walk the rest of the way. After pulling onto the shoulder the vehicle came to a stop, at which time the subject placed a sharp object to the driver’s neck and proceeded to rifle through her purse. After removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the purse the subject fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, 30-35 years of age, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses.

Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at the Beaverbrook Dollar Tree, late Thursday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Dollar Tree located at 1230 Beaverbrook Plaza, New Castle. An unknown suspect entered the business just after closing and confronted an employee in the office. The suspect who was brandishing a handgun, held the employee at gunpoint while demanding money. The victim complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then fled on foot towards the rear of the business.

The suspect was described as black male wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Troopers Seek Assistance in Locating Wanted Subject

Lincoln- The Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to locate 27-year-old Richard D. Stratton of Milford, DE who is wanted for kidnapping and related charges.

The incident occurred on May 15, 2019 at approximately 1:18 p.m., when Troopers responded to a residence in the 8000 block of Clendaniel Pond Road, Lincoln in reference to a domestic related incident.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that the parties who were reported to have been involved had left the scene.  Through further investigations, it was learned that Stratton had responded to the residence armed with a handgun and began pointing the weapon at several individuals.  Stratton then proceeded to force his girlfriend at gunpoint into a vehicle and not allowing her to leave.  Stratton entered the vehicle as a passenger and the unknown driver fled the scene.  Stratton and the victim were last seen traveling in a gold or tan in color passenger vehicle.

The victim, 31-year-old Tara M. Pannell has not been located since this incident.  A Gold Alert has been issued in an attempt to locate her.

Troopers have been unable to locate Stratton who currently has active warrants for the following:

  • Kidnapping First Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Aggravated Menacing (4 counts)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Breach of Release

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are currently on scene  of a crash involving a school bus and a special needs transport vehicle that has restricted northbound Basin Rd. (DE 141) to a single lane in the area of the I-95 southbound on-ramp.

Troopers Investigating Serious Crash-Seaford

Seaford- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious crash that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on May 12, 2019 at approximately 11:08 p.m., when a 2003 Mazda 6 was traveling southbound in the center of the northbound lanes of Sussex Highway (US 13), north of Cannon Road (SR 18). A 2009 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound in the right lane of US 13 approaching the Mazda. The operator of the Toyota attempted to swerve to the left immediately before impact. As a result, the front of the Mazda struck the front of the Toyota in the northbound left lane. After impact, both vehicles came to rest in the left lane of northbound US 13.  A third vehicle, a 2014 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on US 13 approaching the now stabilized collision scene.  The operator of the Ford failed to observe the crash, and as a result the Ford struck both vehicles.  The operator of the Toyota had already exited his vehicle after the initial impact, when he was struck and injured during the second impact with the Ford.

The operator of the Mazda, a 22-year-old male from Georgetown was not properly restrained and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The operator of the Toyota, a 66-year-old male from Ellendale was properly restrained and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries.

The operator of the Ford, a 54-year-old male from Bridgeville was properly restrained and not injured.

Troopers Arrest Chesapeake City Man for Vehicular Assault – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police have charged 57 year old Robert F. McKee of Chesapeake City MD with vehicular assault, stemming from a DUI related crash involving three vehicles that took place in Newark, early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:09 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 on northbound DE Rt. 896 (S. College Ave) in the area of the I-95 interchange. A 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by a 21 year old Mt. Laurel, NJ man was traveling northbound on Rt. 896 in the left lane followed by a 2006 Honda Accord being driven by a 19 year old Camden-Wyoming woman. A 2014 RAM 1500 pick-up truck, operated by McKee was traveling Rt. 896 southbound when he crossed the center median, striking the left side of the Jeep. The Jeep began to spin at which time it was struck on its left side by the Honda. The Honda then struck a guardrail, where it came to a stop. After being struck by the Honda, the Jeep came to a stop on a grass shoulder. McKee’s RAM came to a stop in the northbound lanes of Rt. 896.

The driver of the Jeep, who was wearing his seat belt was transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. Neither improper driving nor impairment are factors on his behalf. A 20 year old female passenger in his vehicle, who was also seat-belted, sustained minor injuries.

Further investigation determined that McKee, who was not injured, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Vehicular Assault 1st Degree
  • DUI/Alcohol
  • Driving on the Wrong Side of Roadway

He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released after posting $3000.00 secured bail.

Troopers Investigating Serious Single Vehicle Crash – Laurel

Laurel – The Delaware State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred late Saturday night that has left a Millsboro woman hospitalized in serious condition.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:27 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 on Gordy Rd. in the area of Whitesville Rd. A 2007 Nissan Sentra, operated by a 38 year old Millsboro woman was travelling southbound on Gordy Rd. at an apparent high rate of speed when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Whitesville Rd. After proceeding through the intersection the Nissan travelled off the south side of Whitesville Rd. into a grassy area where it came to a stop after impacting the embankment of a ditch.

The driver who was not seat belted, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
