Townsend- The Delaware State Police have identified the name of the driver who died in a crash on August 17, 2019 on USRT 13 and Pine Tree Road, Townsend, as 70-year-old Salvatore Rothwell of Hartley, DE.

The crash continues remains under investigation by the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

**Update** State Police On-Scene of a Plane Crash- New Castle County

New Castle County- The Delaware State Police, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are continuing their investigation into an aircraft crash that occurred earlier this morning just west of I95 in the area of Churchmans Road.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 8:53 a.m., this morning, August 18, 2019, when an aircraft crashed into a wooded area west of I95.  A motorist that was traveling on I95 in the area of Churchmans Road reported seeing what appeared to be a plane crash into the wooded area.

Upon arrival to this location, a plane was discovered in the wooded area.  It has been determined that the plane, a Beech Craft 55 Baron had recently taken off from the New Castle County airport.  The plane was occupied by two individuals, a pilot and a passenger who have been pronounced deceased at the scene.  Their names are being withheld at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene including over 12 Fire Departments, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), and the Division of Forensic Science (DFS).

The scene remains contained at this time and there are no road closures.

The Delaware State Police will continue to work with the FAA and the NTSB until the scene is cleared.

State Police On-Scene of a Plane Crash -New Castle County

New Castle County- The Delaware State Police are currently at the scene of an aircraft crash west of I95, New Castle County.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 8:53 a.m., this morning, August 18, 2019, when an aircraft crashed into a wooded area west of I95.

The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released when it becomes available.

There are no road closures at this time, however there is heavy police activity in the area and motorist should expect delays.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-Selbyville

Selbyville- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2019 at approximately 7:52 p.m., when a 2018 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Gum Road approaching the intersection of Roxanna Road (SR 17) which is controlled by a stop sign for southbound traffic. A 2014 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling westbound on Roxanna Road approaching the same intersection. For unknown reasons, the operator of the Altima entered the intersection directly into the path of the Traverse. As a result, the front of the Traverse impacted the left front of the Altima within the westbound travel lane of Roxanna Road.

The operator of the Altima, a 74-year-old female from Weston, OH, was properly restrained.  She was transported to the Atlantic General Hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.  Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Traverse, a 50-year-old male from Middle River, MD, was properly restrained.  He was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Baltimore Shock Trauma with serious injuries.  There were also three passengers in the Traverse, a 53-year-old female, a 36-year-old male and a 36-year-old female.  All three passengers were properly restrained and transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Roxanna Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues remains under investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

*Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-Townsend

Townsend– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this afternoon.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2019 at approximately 3:38 p.m., when a 2013 Hino box truck was traveling southbound on USRT 13 in the right lane of two southbound lanes of travel and approaching the intersection with Pine Tree Road. A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on USRT 13 in the left turn lane approaching the intersection with Pine Tree Road.  The traffic signal at this intersection was cycled to green for the box truck.  The traffic signal for the Cherokee was flashing a red arrow, which allows for motorists to make a left turn after coming to a complete stop.  The operator of the Cherokee proceeded to make the left turn directly into the path of the box truck, causing the two vehicles to collide.

The operator of the box truck a 40-year-old male from Bear, DE was properly restrained and did not sustain injuries.  There were two front seat passengers in the truck.  The right front passenger was properly restrained and transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The middle front seat passenger was not properly restrained and did not sustain injuries.

The operator of the Cherokee, a 70-year-old male from Hartley, DE was properly restrained.  He was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

USRT 13 southbound at Pine Tree Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues remains under investigation by the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Townsend- The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a fatal crash that has southbound Dupont Parkway (Rt. 13) in the area of Pine Tree Road closed.

Motorists will experience delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

Troopers Investigate Stabbing Incident-Bear

Bear- The Delaware State Police are investigating a report of a stabbing incident that occurred earlier this morning.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2019 at approximately 5:50  a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 7-11 located at 1700 Pulaski Highway, Bear.  Upon arrival it was learned that a 17-year-old victim had engaged in an altercation with an unknown subject inside the business.  The altercation between the two continued into the parking lot of the car wash next to the 7-11 where the victim was then subsequently stabbed/cut numerous times.  The victim proceeded to walk home and was privately transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a younger black male.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Troopers Investigating Parking Lot Robbery-Claymont

Claymont- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in a pharmacy parking lot yesterday.

The incident occurred on August 16, 2019 at approximately 4:17 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the shopping center parking lot of the Grubbs Pharmacy located at 2714 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 49-year-old female victim of Claymont who advised that she was dropped off at the pharmacy by two unknown subjects in order to fill her prescription medication.  The victim obtained her prescriptions from the pharmacy and proceeded back to the vehicle.  Upon entering the vehicle, the driver demanded the victim to turn over her prescriptions.  When the victim refused, the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim.  The suspect was able to obtain an undisclosed amount of prescription medication prior to the victim being able to exit the vehicle.  The victim did not sustain injuries as a result of this incident.

The suspects were described as two black males approximately 25-30 years of age.
