Delaware State Police Conducting Death Investigation – Bear

Bear – The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into the death of an infant that occurred at approximately 10:35 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the Little People Child Development Center, located at 3843 Wrangle Hill Rd., Bear.

As a result of this investigation the Office of Childcare Licensing has suspended the license of the center indefinitely.

This is an active and ongoing investigation with further details being released as they become available.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash – New Castle

New Castle– The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred at approximately 1:53 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2019 on Wrangle Hill Rd. (DE Rt. 72) in the area of School House Rd.

As a result of the crash and ongoing investigation Wrangle Hill Rd. is closed in both directions at School House Rd. Motorists will experience significant delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

Troopers Attempting to Identify Robbery Suspect – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in mid-August and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., Sunday, August 18, 2019, on the sidewalk in front of a residence in the 4400 block of N. Market St., Wilmington. The pictured suspect approached the male victim as he sat on the steps of the residence, displayed a knife and demanded jewelry. The victim refused to comply with the demand and a brief struggle ensued. The suspect was able to obtain the jewelry and then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years of age, 6’00” tall, with what appeared to be “star” tattoos on his shoulders.

Lincoln- The Delaware State Police are releasing the name victim who was found deceased along the side of Fleatown Road, Lincoln on August 28, 2019.

The victim has been identified by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science as 30-year-old Desiree Vincent of Lincoln, DE.

The case continues to remain under investigation to determine the cause and manner of death.

Delaware State Trooper Selected as Instructor of the Year by the International Association of Chiefs of Police

Nashville, Tennessee – On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, Master Corporal Lawrence Walther of the Delaware State Police Training Academy was recognized as the 2019 Instructor of the Year, by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) – State and Provincial Police Academy Director’s (SPPADS), at their Annual Conference in Nashville, TN. Nominations for this prestigious award were received by the IACP-SPPADS, from police academies across the United States and Canada. Cpl. Walther, who was nominated by the former Director of the DSP Training Academy, Captain Jennifer Griffin, is the first Delaware State Trooper to be presented with the IACP SPPADS Instructor of the Year Award.

 “Cpl. Walther is not just an “Instructor of the Year,” but an “Instructor of a Lifetime” who goes above and beyond to reach Troopers, Officers, students and citizens. Cpl. Walther, who has been a Delaware State Trooper since 2004, realized early in his career, that he had a passion and aptitude for teaching, instructing, and mentoring. This special skill set resulted in him being selected as a Field Training Officer for recruit Troopers, while assigned to Troop 2 as a patrol Trooper. Prior to being assigned to the Delaware State Police Training Academy as a full-time TAC (Teacher – Advisor – Counselor) in 2017, Cpl. Walther served as an adjunct instructor at the Academy as a guest TAC Officer, Ground Fighting instructor, and as a Control Tactics instructor.  Since coming to the Academy, he has also become a certified instructor in SABRE O.C. Spray, ASP Baton, and Stop Stick.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash- Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a double fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred yesterday.

The incident occurred on September 1, 2019 at approximately 6:27 p.m., when a 2001 Suzuki Katana 600 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Voshells Mill Star Hill Road east of Burton Drive in front of the Star Hill Elementary School. The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a slight left curve.  The motorcycle traveled off the south edge of the roadway striking a concrete curb.  The motorcycle continued eastbound through a grass area in front of the school before striking a tree and ejecting both the operator and passenger.

The operator, 19-year-old Brendon M. Harden, was not wearing a helmet or any type of protective clothing.  He did not have a motorcycle endorsement license and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The passenger, 20-year-old Kiarra A. Hickman, was not wearing a helmet or any type of protective clothing and was also pronounced deceased at the scene.

Voshells Mill Star Hill Road was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Investigating Serious Crash-Frankford

Frankford- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious crash involving a pedal cyclist that occurred earlier today.

The incident occurred on September 1, 2019 at approximately 12:37 p.m., when a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound on Burbage Road (CR 353) just east of East Sherwood Drive.  A pedal cyclist was operating a bright green bicycle eastbound on Burbage Road in the same general vicinity. For unknown reasons, the operator of the Cherokee failed to see the pedal cyclist in front of him causing the right front bumper of the Cherokee to strike the rear of the bicycle.  The impact caused the pedal cyclist to be ejected from the bicycle.

The pedal cyclist, a 57-year-old male from Frankford, DE was not wearing a helmet.  He was transported to the Christina Hospital in critical condition.

The operator of the Cherokee,  a 56-year-old male from Frankford, DE was properly restrained.  He did not sustain injury and remained on scene.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction and no charges have been filed at this time.

Burbage Road was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery of New Castle Gas Station

New Castle (19720)-  The Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a New Castle, DE Exxon gas station that took place earlier today.

The incident occurred on September 1, 2019 at approximately 10:47 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Exxon located at 400 Pulaski Highway, New Castle, for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a store employee who advised that an unknown suspect had approached him as he was behind the counter.  The suspect displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money.  The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money prior to the suspect fleeing the area on foot.  There were no injuries reported during this incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, thin build, approximately 6’00” tall, 150 lbs., wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt and in possession of an unknown type of handgun.
