State Police Investigating Industrial Accident – Bethany Beach

Bethany Beach, Delaware – The Delaware State Police are investigating an industrial accident that seriously injured a Laurel man.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred on Friday, September 13, 2019, at approximately 2:12 p.m., at a residence that was under construction, located in the 31000 Block of Heather Lane, Bethany Beach. A contractor was on-site for masonry work at a residence under construction. A 62-year-old man of Laurel, who works for the mason, was working on the second level of the scaffolding. The victim fell from the scaffolding to the ground below and sustained serious injuries. The victim was removed from the scene and transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital where he is listed in stable but critical condition.

Troopers Investigating Robbery-Claymont

Claymont- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Claymont business on Friday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m., September 13, 2019 at the Circle K, located at 698 Naamans Road. The suspects, who had their faces concealed and one being armed with a knife, approached two employees in the store and demanded cash from the register.  The employees complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspects. Both suspects then removed tobacco products from the store and fled on foot eastbound.  The employees were not injured as a result of the incident.

The first suspect was described as a black male, 5’8”, 165 pounds, wearing dark clothing and a light colored fabric covering his face.

The second suspect was described as a black male, 5’10”, 155-160 pounds, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants, a light colored fabric covering his face and armed with a knife.

Troopers Investigating Robbery of Claymont Gas Station

Claymont- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Claymont area business this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:31 a.m., September 13, 2019 at the Dash In, located at 3700 Philadelphia Pike. Two suspects, who had their faces concealed, approached the two store employees at the cash register, each displaying a knife and demanded cash from the register.  The employee’s complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspects, who then fled on foot toward Myrtle Avenue.  The employees were not injured as a result of the incident.

The first suspect was described as a black male, 5’8”, 165 pounds, wearing dark clothing, a light fabric covering his face and in possession of a knife.

The second suspect was described as a black male, 5’10”, 155-160 pounds, wearing dark clothing, a light fabric covering his face and in possession of a knife.

Troopers Investigating Robbery at New Castle Area Motel

New Castle (19720)- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident at a New Castle area motel that occurred early Wednesday morning, in which the victim was assaulted and robbed.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:17 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Dutch Inn located at 111 S. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A 60-year-old male occupant at the motel answered a knock at his door at which time he was confronted by the female and male suspects.  The female suspect forced her way into the room while the male suspect proceeded to physically assault the victim, eventually wrestling him to the ground. The suspects then removed the victims wallet from his pocket, which contained an undisclosed amount of money, and fled in an unknown direction.  The victim sustained minor facial injuries but refused treatment.

The female suspect is described as a fair skin white female, 5’3” tall, with straight blonde hair.

The male suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 6’1” tall, with a slender build.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Serious Motor Vehicle Crash on Coastal Hwy.- Lewes

Lewes– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious crash involving a pedal cyclist that occurred earlier today.

The incident occurred on September 11, 2019 at approximately 12:31 p.m., when a 2017 Cadillac CTS, operated by an 89 year old Millsboro man, was traveling northbound, in the right lane, of Coastal Highway approaching the intersection with Kings Highway. A 79 year old Lewes man, who was a pedal cyclist, was proceeding northbound in the bus/bike lane, in the same general vicinity. The operator of the CTS failed to see the pedal cyclist to his right and while changing lanes to make a right turn onto Kings Highway the right side of his vehicle struck the bicycle. The impact caused the pedal cyclist to be ejected from the bicycle.

The pedal cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

The operator of the CTS, who was properly restrained was not injured as a result of the crash.

Northbound Coastal Highway was rendered to a single travel lane for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

*TRAFFIC ADVISORY* Troopers Investigating Serious Motor Vehicle Crash on Coastal Hwy. – Lewes

Lewes – The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:32 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 on Coastal Hwy. in the area of Kings Hwy., Lewes.

As a result of the crash the northbound right lane of Coastal Hwy. is closed. Motorists will experience delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel. Troopers Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash-Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred this morning.

The incident occurred on September 10, 2019 at approximately 5:59 a.m., when a 2013 Augusta Sport Motorcycle was traveling southbound on DuPont Highway, south of Messina Hill Road. A 2004 Ford Excursion was also proceeding southbound on DuPont Highway, in front of the motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle passed the Excursion on the left, subsequently losing control. The driver was then ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the left lane of travel.

A 2002 Ford Explorer was southbound on DuPont Highway south of Messina Hill Road and subsequently struck the motorcycle operator in the left lane of travel.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old male from Dover, DE, was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Excursion, a 25-year-old female from Dover, DE, remained on scene.  She was properly restrained and not injured.

The operator of the Explorer, a 24-year-old female from Smyrna, DE, remained on scene.  She was properly restrained and not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. The Delaware State Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to please contact Cpl/3 Joseph Lane at 302-698-8457.

Claymont- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Claymont Burger King on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Burger King, located at 2911 Philadelphia Pike. The suspect, who had his face concealed, approached an employee in the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the safe.  The employee complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who then fled on foot southbound on Philadelphia Pike.  The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a 25-30 year old black male, 5’7”-5’8”, 130-140 pounds, a fabric covering his face and in possession of a handgun.
