Troopers Conducting Death Investigation-Frederica

Frederica- The Delaware State Police are currently conducting a death investigation in which two subjects were found deceased in a parking lot.

The investigation began on February 22, 2020 at approximately 4:04 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the parking lot area off of Cooper Avenue, Bowers Beach, Frederica.  Upon arrival two subjects were located deceased.

The investigation is in it’s early stages with further information being released as it becomes available.

Delaware State Police to Conduct Citizen’s Police Academy in Sussex County

Sussex County, Delaware – The Delaware State Police is now accepting applications for the Spring 2020 Citizens Police Academy  (CPA) to be held in Sussex County. The deadline for the CPA registration is March 19, 2020.

The Spring 2020 Delaware State Police Citizen’s Police Academy will begin on Thursday, April 2, 2020, and will conclude on Thursday, June 18, 2020. The academy will consist of ten, Thursday night sessions, running from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., classes will take place at the Delaware State Police Troop 7 located at 19444 Mulberry Knoll Road, Lewes and the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, located at 21911 Rudder Lane, Georgetown, Delaware. Participants will learn about a wide array of interesting police activities consistent with what a Delaware Trooper experiences today. The academy includes but is not limited to; classroom instruction of evidence processing, criminal and traffic investigations, tours of the museum, academy, and troops, special units, and other fascinating law enforcement related topics.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to ride with patrol troopers. Class size will be limited to 20 participants and a background check will be conducted on all applicants. The deadline for registration is March 19, 2020. Applications must be returned by that date in order to be processed. If interested, access the application on-line by visiting www.dsp.delaware.gov and clicking on the “Community” tab to find Citizen’s Police Academy. Troopers Attempting To Identify Credit Card Fraud Suspect – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police are attempting to identify the pictured suspect who is wanted in connection with multiple fraudulent credit card transactions.

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, Troopers investigated the theft a of wallet that took place at Edge Fitness, located in the Christiana Fashion Center, Newark. Further investigation determined that a credit card contained within the wallet was used to make purchases at the Best Buy Christiana Fashion Center location, Macy’s at the Christiana Mall and an area Hertz Rental Car.

At this time it is undetermined if the pictured suspect is responsible for the theft of the wallet, however he is confirmed to be responsible for the fraudulent credit card transactions.

*Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash- Lewes

Lewes- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred earlier this evening.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2020 at approximately 6:14 p.m., when a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway (SR 1) in the left lane just south of Lewes-Georgetown Highway (US 9). A pedestrian was crossing the highway in an easterly direction and stepped from the median into the path of the Tahoe. The operator of the Tahoe was unable to perceive the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing and not using a light. As a result, the front of the Tahoe struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane.  The operator of the Tahoe remained at the scene.

The pedestrian, an adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Tahoe, a 50-year-old male from Camden, DE was properly restrained and did not sustain injury.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Coastal Highway northbound in the area of Lewes-Georgetown Highway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

*Traffic Advisory* Troopers Investigating Serious Pedestrian Crash-Lewes

Lewes- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m., on February 20, 2020.

As a result of this crash, northbound Coastal Highway (Rt 1) in the area of Shady Road, Lewes is closed at this time.

Motorist should expect traffic delays and avoid the area if possible.

Delaware State Police Troop 3 to Host 2019 “Year In Review”-Camden

Camden– The Delaware State Police Troop 3 will be hosting its annual meeting to provide the public with their 2019 “Year in Review”.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., in Troop 3’s David B. Pulling Community Room located at 3759 S. State Street, Camden-Wyoming. The presentation will focus on providing the community with a better understanding of how Troop 3 functions and the duties and responsibilities those Troopers handle on a daily basis. Topics covered will also include Troop 3’s review of the rates of crime, crashes and investigative clearances in 2019, and how enforcement plans have adjusted for 2020 within their jurisdiction across Kent County.

The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.  It is a great opportunity for the community to obtain a better understanding of how the Delaware State Police, Troop 3 are working to ensure public safety in the areas where we live, work, and travel.

Troopers Charge Hockessin Man with 6th Offense DUI

Hockessin – The Delaware State Police have charged 34 year old David L. Brower of Hockessin with his 6th DUI, after being involved in a single vehicle crash, Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, February, 18, 2020, on Newport Gap Pike in the area of Lancaster Pike, Hockessin. A 2012 Ford Focus, being operated by Brower, was traveling northbound on Newport Gap Pike approaching Lancaster Pike, when the vehicle left its proper lane and traveled across the southbound lanes of Lancaster Pike, and then back across the northbound lanes, before striking an embankment in the yard of a residence located on Chapel Court, where it came to rest.

Brower, who was properly restrained was transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Further investigation determined that Brower was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and that he had 5 prior DUI convictions.

Warrants are on file charging Brower with DUI (6th Offense), Failure to Remain in Single Lane of Travel, Unreasonable Speed and Driving Suspended or Revoked. Execution of the warrants and arraignment are pending discharge.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that took place at a Newark area residence early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020, the occupants of a residence located in the 600 block of Old Baltimore Pike, Newark were awoken by the sound of approximately six gunshots. At this time the residents were unaware what had occurred and it wasn’t until later in the morning that they discovered damage to the exterior of the residence, which was confirmed to have been caused by gunfire. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

At this time there are no suspects or possible motive for the shooting. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cpl. M. Young at Troop 2 by calling 302-834-2620.
