Dover – This message is to assure you that the men and women of the Delaware State Police will continue to fulfill our mission during this challenging time, which is To enhance the quality of life for all Delaware citizens and visitors, by providing professional, competent and compassionate law enforcement services, through appropriate responses and enforcement.

This includes full uninterrupted initial responses to emergency calls for service to include criminal investigations, motor vehicle crashes and other public safety related issues.

The health and well-being of our Troopers as well as our community is our top priority as we continue to serve and protect, during this unprecedented event. We will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the Delaware Department of Public Health (DPH), the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

We have also implemented temporary changes to operations at some of our facilities, to ensure we are compliant with social distancing guidelines.

We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate actions by following the guidelines that are set forth to protect public health and safety.

Newark – The Delaware State Police are identifying 66 year old Linda D. Marple of Newark as the driver of a Chevy Cavalier that was involved in a crash that occurred at approximately 6:17 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020, on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. at Pearson Dr., in the area of Todd Estates. Marple was admitted to the Christiana Hospital on the date of the incident and succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

Troopers Investigating Knifepoint Robbery – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating the knifepoint robbery of a Wilmington area Walgreens pharmacy that occurred Saturday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Walgreens-Chestnut Run, located at 1710 Faulkland Rd. A male suspect confronted an employee behind the sales counter while brandishing a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then fled on foot. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a light skinned male, 18-30 years of age, 5’10”-6’1” tall with a thin build, wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Troopers Investigating Stabbing – Dover

Dover – The Delaware State Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early this morning on S. State St. in Dover.

The initial investigation has determined that at approximately 1:42 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2020 a 35 year old Dover man was walking along S. State St. in the area of Lebanon Rd., after leaving the Royal Farms. As he was walking he was approached by a male subject, that he did not, who began yelling at him. The suspect then proceeded to stab the victim in the upper torso with an unknown object. After the assault the suspect fled on foot. The victim was treated at Bayhealth Kent Campus for a single stab wound to his upper torso.

The suspect was described as a black male, wearing a dark shirt, light colored pants and a dark colored hat.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash, E. Chestnut Hill Rd. in the area of Todd Estates – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 6:17 a.m., this morning, Friday, March 20, 2020, on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. at Pearson Dr., in the area of Todd Estates.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, operated by a 66 year old Newark woman, was traveling eastbound on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. (Rt. 4) in the right lane, proceeding towards the intersection with Pearson Dr. A 2014 Acura MDX, operated by a 55 year old Elkton, MD woman, was traveling eastbound on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. in the left lane, behind the Chevy. The Acura accelerated past the Chevy at which time the Chevy then changed lanes to follow behind the Acura. The Chevy then proceeded to drift to the left into the center grass before returning to the left lane at which time it accelerated and struck the rear of the Acura.

After the initial impact the driver of the Chevy lost control with her vehicle overturning on to its roof, coming to rest in the middle of the intersection. The Acura also came to rest in the intersection.

The driver of the Chevy who was not properly restrained was transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Acura, who was properly restrained, was not injured.

Impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Traffic on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. was restricted for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash I-95 at Churchman’s Marsh – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:42 a.m., this morning, Friday, March 20, 2020 on I-95 northbound in the area of Churchman’s marsh.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2019 Freightliner tractor trailer, operated by a 34 year old Port Republic NJ man, was traveling in the center right lane of northbound I-95, slowing down due to stopped traffic further north. A 2006 Mazda 3, operated by a 20 year old Wilmington man, was also traveling northbound I-95, when he failed to stop and struck the rear of the tractor trailer. After impact both vehicles came to a rest in the roadway.

The driver of the tractor trailer, who was properly restrained was not injured.

The driver of the Mazda, who was also properly restrained, was transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. He was cited for Failure to Remain in a Single Lane and Expired Registration.

I-95 northbound was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Bureau of Identification Dover Office Temporarily Changes Operating Procedures

Dover – The Delaware State Police State Bureau of Identification (SBI), remains open and ready to serve the public during the Coronavirus outbreak. However, to remain consistent with current public health guidelines, we are reducing visitor traffic at our main office, located at 655 South Bay Road, Suite 1 B, Dover, in an attempt to safeguard our employees and those we serve.

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, our Dover location will change operations from a walk-in facility to appointment only.  Appointments may be scheduled by calling: 302-739-2528. 

 THIS CHANGE DOES NOT APPLY TO SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION. YOU ARE ADVISED TO CONTINUE TO REPORT AS REQUIRED.

 SBI operations at our New Castle County (Troop 2) location, as well as the Sussex County (Thurman Adams State Service Center) location, remain unchanged. Both these locations are by appointment only.

We thank the public for cooperating with these guidelines and ask that individuals visiting our customer service centers follow these recommendations:

  • Take advantage of using hand sanitizer, available at our customer service windows, before conducting any transaction.
  • Use a credit card for any transaction to limit the amount of hand-to-hand contact.
  • Keep at least six feet of space between fellow customers and do not crowd.
