*TRAFFIC ADVISORY* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash on Korean War Veteran Memorial Hwy. (SR.1)- Smyrna

Smyrna – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and SUV that occurred at 10:25 p.m. on May 31, 2020. As a result of the collision, the Korean War Veteran Memorial Hwy (SR 1) northbound and southbound is shut down between the south Smyrna Exit (114) and north Smyrna Exit (119).

Motorists are to use caution and seek alternate routes of travel.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Compliant- Dover

Dover– The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired complaint that occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday.

The incident occurred on May 30, 2020 at approximately 3:28 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 2600 block of Kenton Road, Dover, for a report of shots being fired.  Upon arrival, contact was made with a 32-year-old male who advised that he and his wife were sitting inside their parked vehicle outside their residence, while their 12-year-old child was standing next to the driver’s side door.  The victim advised that a dark colored Jeep Wrangler came past his residence at a slow rate of speed and someone from the vehicle fired two rounds in the direction of his residence.  The residence did not appear to have been struck and the victims did not sustain injury.

Delaware State Police Issue Public Safety Message

Delaware- In light of the recent tragedy and current events that have struck our nation, the Delaware State Police remain committed to our mission to serve and protect our citizens.

With protests occurring throughout the United States, we understand that many of our citizens here in Delaware also want to exercise their 1st Amendment Right and have their voices heard to include the right to peaceably assemble.  Our goal is to allow our citizens to protest as safely as possible, while we protect individuals as well as public and private property.

The Delaware State Police will continue to do our part and see that these protests remain peaceful.  Over the past several days, some peaceful demonstrations in cities across the country have turned violent.  We are asking our citizens to do their part in helping us protect our communities by refraining from violence.  We also ask our citizens to report any suspicious activity and if they witness a crime to call their local police department, Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, the Anti-Terrorism Tip Line at 1-800-FORCE-12, or in the event of an emergency 9-1-1. 

We would also like to remind our citizens of the COVID-19 that continues to impact our nation.  These protests are likely to draw large crowds and we ask that you exercise the social distancing guidelines as well as the wearing of face masks.

The safety of our citizens will remain our top priority while we continue to be committed to keeping Delaware safe.

Dover- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 3:18 p.m. on May 31, 2020.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident-Milton

Milton–  The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident in which an unoccupied vehicle and a residence had been struck.

On May 30, 2020, at approximately 11:49 a.m., Troopers responded to the 28000 block of W. Springside Drive, Milton, for a report of a vehicle and a residence that had been struck by gunfire.  Upon arrival, it was learned that shots were heard on May 29, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m.   It was not until the next day that a bullet hole was discovered in the siding of a residence and two bullet holes were located in a vehicle that was parked in the driveway.  At the time of this incident the residence was occupied by a 51-year-old male and a 76-year-old male.  Both residents were not injured as a result of this incident.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash on Greentop Road- Lincoln

Lincoln – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2020, in the 9000 block of Greentop Road, Lincoln.

The initial investigation has determined a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by a 29-year-old male from Ellendale, was traveling southbound on Greentop Road, south of Clendaniel Pond Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the west edge of the roadway in front of a residence located in the 9000 block of Greentop Road. After exiting the roadway, the left front of the vehicle struck a tree, which caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise and overturn onto its passenger side. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled stop on the grass shoulder of the roadway. Following the impact, the vehicle caught on fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

There were no other passengers inside the vehicle.

Greentop Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Stolen Handgun – Millsboro

Millsboro – The Delaware State Police have charged 36 year old Levaughn O. White, from Millsboro, De, with multiple weapons offenses after he was stopped for a traffic offense and then found to be in possession of a stolen handgun.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:12p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, in the area of Baywood Greens entrance on Long Neck Road, when Troopers observed a green Volkswagon Sedan with Delaware registration. Upon the stop and contact with White, Troopers detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle. White was removed from the vehicle and detained.  A small bag of marijuana was located in White’s front pants pocket. A search of the vehicle’s center console revealed a fully loaded .380 revolver wrapped in a black sock, a pill container with crack cocaine and a small black scale. Pursuant to the traffic stop White was taken into custody without incident.

After completion of the roadside investigation, White was transported back to Troop 7 for processing.  Investigation revealed White was prohibited from possessing a firearm and had a suspended driver’s license. A computer search of the firearm was conducted, and it was determined that the firearm was stolen from Troop 5 territory in 2016.

White was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Possession of Marijuana

White was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Center in lieu of $103,301 cash bond.
