Middletown- Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Trooper’s Association (DSTA), in collaboration with Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital, helped make 5-year-old Imani McKinney’s dream come true.

In June 2019, Imani was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.  Imani has valiantly been battling this disease despite recently learning the disease is terminal.

On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Troopers provided Imani and her family a police escort from their residence in New Castle, DE, to Summit Aviation, located in Middletown. Imani and her family were met with a warm welcome by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, the DSTA, and uniformed Troopers. Imani was provided a tour of the airport hangar and sat inside a Delaware State Police helicopter. The DSTA provided lunch, and Imani received several gifts.

Imani’s family shared with the hospital staff that one of her final wishes was to go to Disney World in a helicopter. Through the collaborative efforts of many, the Delaware State Police was able to make part of Imani’s wish come true and provide a smile filled and memorable day and for a special little girl and her family.

Delaware State Police Conducting Death Investigation Following Boating Accident- Indian River

Indian River- Delaware State Police are currently conducting a death investigation related to a boating accident that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The investigation revealed the incident occurred on August 27, 2020, at approximately 4:22 p.m. when the victim, his wife, and granddaughter were fishing in the Indian River south of the South Shore Marina in their boat. The victim discovered his fishing line was caught in the boat’s motor, and he jumped in the water to untangle the line. As the victim attempted to climb the ladder back onto the boat, he fell backward into the water and was unable to swim due to the rough water conditions and strong current. The victim was transported from the scene to an area hospital by ambulance.

The victim, a 68-year-old male from West Virginia, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
