Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a strong arm robbery that took place in the parking lot of the Bank of America on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in the parking lot of the Bank of America, located at 5215 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A 68-year-old female had just exited her vehicle and was walking across the parking lot when she was approached by a male suspect who asked if she needed help. The suspect grabbed the victim’s backpack and a brief struggle ensued. The victim was knocked to the ground at which time the suspect was able to gain possession of the backpack and fled on foot. The suspect was last seen on foot on Naamans Road in the area of the Stratford apartment complex. The victim sustained minor injuries from the fall but refused medical treatment.

The suspect was described as a thin white male, approximately 5’10” tall with a beard.

Selbyville, DE- Delaware State Police arrested a Maryland man for felony assault after hitting a stranger with his vehicle.

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 4:53 p.m., a 53-year-old male from Fenwick Island exited Harris Teeter grocery store located at 31221 Americana Parkway, Selbyville, and attempted to cross the parking lot from the store to the first median. While crossing the road, a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operated by Robert Sadowski Jr., 19, of Bishopville, MD, began driving north in the parking lot toward the victim. As Sadowski approached the victim, he accelerated and swerved the truck into where he was standing. The truck struck the victim and knocked him to the ground, causing minor injury.

Through investigative leads, troopers identified Sadowski as the driver of the Silverado pickup truck. Sadowski was contacted and turned himself in to Delaware State Police Troop 4. Sadowski was charged with Assault 2nd Degree (Felony) and arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on a $3,000.00 unsecured bond.

Delaware – The 35th ANNUAL STATEWIDE LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS involving over 500 Law Enforcement Officers will be held on Thursday, June 10.

The 2021 Torch Run is a modified event, taking place on just one day instead of the traditional three. The Torch Run will have two legs, one departing from Georgetown at 7:30 a.m. and the second leaving Middletown at 9:50 a.m. Both legs will end in Dover with a ceremony on the Legislative Mall at 1:45 p.m.

In its history, Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics has raised more than $9.25 million to support Special Olympics Delaware’s year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or cognitive delays. A family of over 5,000 volunteers makes this program possible for the more than 4,200 athletes who compete in Special Olympics Delaware. The organization builds sports skills, confidence, strength, motivation, and self-esteem … not just for the athletes, but for everyone involved.

In addition to the statewide modified Torch Run, three police agencies are holding their own independent Torch Runs through their towns. Seaford Police Department’s Torch Run is on Monday, June 7, with Delmar and Rehoboth Beach Police Departments holding theirs on Wednesday, June 9. Seaford, DE– Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred last night in the Clearbrooke Estates Development.

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 10:26 p.m., a white 2017 Hyundai Accent occupied by a 16-year-old female from Seaford, a 17-year-old female from Seaford, and a 31-year-old male from Seaford, were traveling in the area of the 500 block of Clearbrooke Boulevard when a dark-colored sedan approached the vehicle from behind and began driving recklessly. The 17-year-old driver pulled to the shoulder to allow the vehicle to pass. As the dark-colored sedan drove by the Hyundai, it stopped, and the front seat passenger rolled down the passenger side window and shot multiple rounds at the vehicle, resulting in it being struck. No one was injured during the incident.  After the shooting, the dark-colored sedan fled the area. During the investigation, troopers discovered shell casings in the area and a bullet hole in the garage door of a residence in the 500 block of Clearbrooke Boulevard. A 72-year-old male and 68-year-old female were inside the residence when the residence was shot but were uninjured.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigation Unit. Anyone with information should contact Detective Z. Townsend – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a double fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Green Giant Road last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:28 p.m., on Monday, May 31, 2021, as a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, being operated by a 68-year-old male of Middletown, Delaware, with a 63-year-old female passenger of Middletown, DE, was traveling westbound on Green Giant Road from the intersection at Summit Bridge Road.  A 2007 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling eastbound on Green Giant Road heading in the direction of the intersection with Summit Bridge Road.  The Chrysler crossed over the solid, double yellow line to pass another, uninvolved vehicle and struck the front of the Harley Davidson.  Both the operator and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

The 68-year-old male operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The 63-year-old female passenger was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.  Identification for both victims are pending notification to next of kin.

The 18-year-old male operator of the Chrysler was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries.  Impairment is not considered a factor.

Green Giant Road between Wiggins Mill Road and Summit Bridge Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.  The investigation into this collision is ongoing.

Dagsboro, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Monday night.

On May 31, 2021, at approximately 10:02 p.m., a 2007 Honda Accord operated by a 31-year-old Frankford man was traveling southbound on DuPont Boulevard (US 113), south of Molly Field Road, in the left travel lane. For unknown reasons, a 21-year-old Seaford man had exited his vehicle, parked on the southbound shoulder of US 113, and was in the left travel lane of DuPont Boulevard. He was wearing dark-colored clothing and was not using a light. The operator of the Accord was unable to see the victim, and the vehicle struck him in the left travel lane. After the collision, the driver came to a controlled stop just south of the crash scene.

The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital by helicopter, where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The driver of the Accord and his 5-year-old passenger were not injured.

DuPont Boulevard was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed and the scene was cleared.

With warmer weather an increased number of pedestrians will be out walking and around the roadways. As a reminder, troopers would like to offer the following pedestrian safety tips to help keep our citizens and visitors safe:

• Be visible. When walking at night, wear bright-colored clothing. Use a flashlight or reflective items.
• Never dart out. Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections when possible.  This is where drivers expect pedestrians.
• If your vehicle breaks down, turn on your flashers and stay with your vehicle until assistance arrives.
• Use pedestrian pushbuttons and wait for the walk signal to cross.
• Take your time to cross. If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, locate a well-lit area and wait for a gap in traffic that allows you enough time to cross safely. Continue to watch traffic as you cross.
• Make eye contact with drivers as they approach. Never assume a driver sees you.
• Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available. Walk on the shoulder facing traffic if no sidewalk is available.
• Keep alert at all times. Don’t be distracted by cellphones and electronic devices that take your eyes (and ears) off the road.
• Avoid alcohol and drugs. They impair your judgment and coordination.

Dagsboro- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Friday night on southbound Dagsboro Road south of Thorogoods Road.

On May 28, 2021, at approximately 10:09 p.m., a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling southbound on Dagsboro Road south of Thorogoods Road. A 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup, was traveling southbound on Dagsboro Road a short distance in front of the Santa Fe at a slower rate of speed. For reasons unknown, the front of the Santa Fe struck the rear of the Dakota.  As a result of the impact, the Dakota rotated counterclockwise while traveling in a southeasterly direction where it exited the roadway before overturning onto its passenger side. Following the impact, the Santa Fe traveled in a southeasterly direction and exited the roadway, while rotating counterclockwise, where its passenger side impacted a tree.

The operator of the Santa Fe, a 62-year-old male from Lebanon, PA, was transported to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The operator of the Dakota was not injured.

The roadway was closed down for approximately 3.5 hours as the collision was investigated and roadway cleared.
