State Police Investigating Armed Robbery

Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Felton convenience store early this morning.

On October 11, 2022, at approximately 1:47 a.m., troopers responded to the Canterbury Shore Stop located at 8953 South Dupont Highway regarding an armed robbery. The ensuing investigation revealed that an unknown black male suspect armed with a weapon approached the 36-year-old cashier and demanded money. The victim complied and the suspect fled from the scene on foot. The victim was not injured, and the unidentified suspect remains at-large.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this case. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact Detective J. State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the New Castle area earlier this morning.

On October 8, 2022, at approximately 5:43 a.m., a black 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway approaching exit # 156 in New Castle. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking southbound on South Dupont Highway and began crossing the roadway directly in the path of the Camry. As a result, the Toyota struck the pedestrian on the highway. The subject was then struck by a second vehicle, a black 2013 Cadillac XTS, which had been traveling northbound behind the Camry.

Both vehicles came to a stop at the scene, which was dark and had limited street lighting. The pedestrian, a 74-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was wearing dark clothing and did not appear to be in possession of a light or other means of illumination. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. Neither of the vehicle operators were injured, and both were properly restrained.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.

Delaware State Police are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred today at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Route 1 northbound at the Red Lion Creek bridge, just south of the split with Route 13 in New Castle. As a result of the crash, Route 1 will be closed for an extended period of time, and traffic will be diverted as police units work to investigate and clear the scene.

Troopers Arrest Man for DUI and Gun Charges

Delaware State Police have arrested 36-year-old Brandon Benson of Dover, Delaware for DUI and other charges following a traffic stop that occurred in the Felton area on Thursday afternoon.

On October 6, 2022, at approximately 2:11 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a white 2011 Toyota RAV4 traveling at a high rate of speed on McGinnis Pond Road north of Andrews Lake Road. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and contacted the driver and sole occupant, identified as Brandon Benson. The trooper observed signs of impairment in Benson, and a DUI investigation ensued. Benson was subsequently taken into custody at the scene without incident. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 2.14 grams of marijuana, approximately .066 grams of cocaine, and a Sarsilmaz 9-millimeter handgun.

Benson was transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence
  • Several traffic offenses

Benson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and was released on his own recognizance.

State Police Investigate Shooting in Bar Parking Lot

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred outside of a New Castle bar on early Friday morning.

On October 7, 2022, at approximately 1:31 a.m., troopers responded to the Paradigm Sports Bar, located at 3800 North Dupont Highway, regarding a shooting that had occurred. The ensuing investigation revealed that a 41-year-old male from Wilmington, Delaware had been shot in his right leg while he was standing in the parking lot of the bar. The victim was driven to an area hospital by an acquaintance for emergency medical treatment. No other individuals were injured.

There is currently no description of the suspect and no surveillance images are available.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance with Locating Wanted Subject

Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Robert Cannon, 47, of Milford, Delaware. Robert has an active felony warrant out of Troop 5. Robert is described as a white male, approximately 5’09” tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Attempts to locate Robert have been unsuccessful. Troopers are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact Detective D. Hickman at 302-752-3856 or by calling 9-1-1.
