State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred Sunday afternoon in Roxana that left one man dead.

On September 10, 2023, at approximately 2:44 p.m., a black 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Bayard Road just east of Zion Church Road. For unknown reasons, the operator failed to negotiate a moderate curve and exited the north edge of the roadway. The Kawasaki traveled a short distance through a wet grassy area before losing control and overturning onto its left side. The Kawasaki re-entered the roadway, which caused the operator to be partially ejected from the motorcycle.

The operator, a 78-year-old man from Ocean View, Delaware, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in Magnolia that left one man dead.

On September 9, 2023, at approximately 5:19 p.m., a white 2017 Ford Escort was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Clapham Road, north of Sophers Row in Magnolia. At the same time, a black 2023 Mazda CX-30 was traveling northbound on Clapham Road, north of Sophers Row. For unknown reasons, the Ford failed to maintain its lane and crossed the centerline of Clapham Road. The Mazda swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the Ford, but was struck on its left side. The Ford continued in a southeasterly direction and exited the roadway into a wooded area. The Ford came to a stop after it rolled onto its right side and violently impacted with a cluster of large trees. The Mazda spun in the roadway and came to a stop facing east in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old man from Magnolia, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Mazda, a 16-year-old girl from Milford, Delaware, was not injured. An 11-year-old passenger in the Mazda was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Delmar that left one man dead.

On September 7, 2023, at approximately 5:51 p.m., a white 2018 Hyundai Tucson was traveling northbound on BiState Boulevard north of Allens Mill Road. Just north of the Tucson, a man on a motorized skateboard was riding in the center of BiState Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the man swerved right in the Tucson’s path. The Tucson swerved right to avoid the pedestrian, however, he continued into the northbound lane and was struck by the Tucson. Due to the impact, the pedestrian was forced onto the windshield before falling off and coming to rest in the northbound lane of BiState Boulevard. The Tucson continued swerving right and struck a mailbox on private property.

The person who was struck, a 27-year-old man from Laurel, Delaware, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Tucson, a 21-year-old woman from Fruitland, Maryland, was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Attempted Wawa Carjacking

The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred early this morning at a Wawa in Newark.

On September 7, 2023, at approximately 2:34 a.m., troopers responded to Wawa, located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road, for an attempted carjacking in the parking lot. The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect demanded the 58-year-old victim get out of her car while pointing a handgun at her and trying to forcefully remove her from her car. The victim did not comply, and the suspect fled in an unidentified vehicle that was parked behind her.

There were no reported injuries following the incident. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance images and video are not available at this time.

State Police Investigating Four-Car Fatal Crash

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Smyrna Tuesday morning that left one woman dead.

On September 5, 2023, at approximately 7:35 a.m., troopers were called to Wheatleys Pond Road at the intersection of Mount Friendship Road regarding a four-car crash. The investigation revealed a blue 2016 Ford Fiesta was stopped in the southbound lane of Wheatleys Pond Road, preparing to turn left onto Mount Friendship Road. A tan 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Wheatleys Pond Road, approaching the rear of the Fiesta. The Silverado failed to stop and struck the rear of the Fiesta, forcing it into the path of a white 2015 Jeep Cherokee traveling northbound on Wheatleys Pond Road. The front of the Cherokee struck the Fiesta’s right passenger side, which caused the Fiesta to overturn onto its driver’s side. The Cherokee then struck a red 2013 Chevrolet Camaro that was stopped at a stop sign on Mount Friendship Road.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 25-year-old woman from Smyrna, DE, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Jeep, a 31-year-old woman from Clayton, DE, sought treatment at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Silverado, a 32-year-old man from Smyrna, DE was not injured. The driver of the Camaro, a 34-year-old man, and his passengers, all from Dover, DE, were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Shots Fired in Lewes

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night in Lewes. No one was injured during the incident.

On September 3, 2023, at approximately 11 p.m., troopers responded to the 23000 block of Oak Street East in Angola by the Bay for a reported criminal mischief complaint. When troopers arrived, they learned that an entry door of the home had been shot. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The suspect description is unknown at this time.
