State Police Asking for Witnesses Following Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash in Newark

Delaware State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of one man early this morning.

On April 13, 2024, at approximately 12:08 a.m., an unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound on Christiana Road east of South Brownleaf Road.  A pedestrian entered the eastbound lanes of Christiana Road from an unknown location, just west of the South Gerald Drive intersection. At the same time, the unknown vehicle entered the same area and struck the pedestrian. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The victim, a 49-year-old man from Newark, was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. The identity of the victim will be released once his family has been notified.

Christiana Road was temporarily closed for approximately 3 hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.

State Police Investigating a Pedestrian Killed by a Train Near Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating a man hit and killed by a train near Newark last night.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a CSX train was traveling from New York to Washington, D.C., in the area of 4949 Ogletown Stanton Road in Newark. At the same time, a man was walking on the outside of the railroad tracks with his back to the oncoming train. The preliminary investigation suggests, the man did not move from the track area after the train operator blew the horn. As a result, the front of the train hit the man.

The victim, a 54-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

State Police Asking for Witnesses Following Fatal Scooter Crash Near Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an electric scooter near Newark last night, that left one man dead.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a Nissan Altima was driving northbound on Salem Church Road north of Reybold Road. At the same time, a Phantom Commuter electric scooter was driving southbound on Salem Church Road. For reasons under investigation, the driver of the scooter entered the northbound lane of Salem Church Road, into the path of the Nissan. As a result, the Nissan hit the scooter.

The driver of the scooter, a 32-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. The driver of the Nissan, a 16-year-old female from Newark, Delaware was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Glasgow

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Glasgow last night, resulting in two fatalities.

On April 10, 2024, at approximately 10:12 p.m., a Nissan Altima was traveling northwest on Wrangle Hill Road, while a BMW 335 was traveling southeast on Wrangle Hill Road. A preliminary investigation suggests that the Nissan was attempting to make a left turn onto Mabel Lane when it collided with the BMW.

The 38-year-old driver of the BMW, a man from Middletown, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for serious injuries. The 57-year-old driver of the Nissan, a woman from Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the victims will be released once their families have been notified.

Wrangle Hill Road was temporarily closed for approximately 5 hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.

Detectives Investigating Armed Robbery at Wilmington Kohl’s

The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred this morning at Kohl’s in Wilmington.

On April 9, 2024, at approximately 11:37 a.m., troopers responded to a robbery at Kohl’s, located at 4437 Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington. During the preliminary investigation, detectives learned that a woman came into the store, and employees recognized her as someone who had shoplifted from Kohl’s before. When a store employee approached and followed the woman out of the store, she pulled a gun and threatened him. The woman then went back into the store and stole several items before running away. Troopers searched the area for the woman but were unable to find her.

The suspect is described as black woman, thin build, wearing a brown Gap shirt and green leggings. As of now, surveillance video and images of the suspect are not available.

State Police Asking for Witnesses Following Fatal Crash Near Magnolia

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash near Magnolia that left a woman dead.

On Saturday April 6, 2024, at approximately 11:58 p.m., a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was driving southbound on Clapham Road approaching Jury Drive, near the entrance to Barker’s Landing. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the SUV causing it to leave the road and drive into a retention pond, becoming submerged with her inside. Rescue crews were able the remove the driver from the SUV and begin lifesaving efforts.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 46-year-old woman from Magnolia, Delaware was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Sunday April 7, 2024, she died from her injuries. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.
