Troopers Arrest Hartly Man for Reckless Endangering After DUI Crash

Delaware State Police arrested 26-year-old Steven Wolinski of Hartly, Delaware, for several felony offenses following a crash into a Hartly residence yesterday.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 6:05 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a Chevrolet Silverado that crashed into an occupied house on the 4000 block of Arthursville Road in Hartly. The driver of the Silverado ran away from the crash scene before troopers arrived. After troopers arrived, they searched the area and found the driver, later identified as Steven Wolinksi. He was arrested and taken to Troop 3. Throughout their contact with Wolinksi, troopers saw multiple signs of impairment and he refused to perform field tests. During the investigation, troopers searched the Silverado and found a loaded firearm and open bottles of alcoholic beverages in the truck. No one was injured as a result of the crash.

At Troop 3, Wolinski was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $76,102 secured bond.

Detectives Investigating New Castle Area Wawa Armed Carjacking

The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred early this morning at a Wawa in New Castle.

On July 3, 2024, at approximately 2:18 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an armed carjacking that occurred at the Wawa located at 117 South Dupont Highway in New Castle. Upon arriving, troopers learned that an unknown black male suspect approached the 25-year-old victim in the parking lot and demanded the victim’s car keys while lifting his shirt to show a firearm. The victim complied and the suspect fled towards State Route 273 in the stolen Honda Accord.

The suspect is described as an unknown black male. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Smyrna

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Smyrna that left one man dead.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 2:02 p.m., a 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling in the left turn lane on Dupont Parkway northbound at the intersection with the entrance ramp to DE State Route 1 northbound. At the same time, a 2002 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle was traveling in the left lane on Dupont Parkway southbound approaching the same intersection. The preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota made a left turn towards the ramp for DE SR 1 northbound at the same time the Yamaha entered the intersection. As a result, the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Yamaha, which caused the motorcyclist to be ejected.

The operator of the Yamaha, a 54-year-old man from Dover, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old woman from Bear, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Detectives Investigating Newark Walgreens Armed Robbery

The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred this morning at a Walgreens in Newark.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 8:07 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Walgreens located at 2719 Pulaski Highway in Newark. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown black male suspect armed with a firearm approached a Walgreens employee and demanded money from the safe. The employee complied and the suspect fled in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance video and images of the suspect are not available.

Detectives Investigating Robbery of New Castle Motel

The Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred early this morning at Red Roof Inn and Suites in New Castle.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 3:18 a.m., troopers responded to an armed robbery at Red Roof Inn and Suites, located at 1612 North Dupont Highway in New Castle. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown black male and unknown black female suspects entered the business and demanded money. The male suspect then jumped over the counter and threatened the desk clerk with a knife. The clerk complied and the suspects ran away. No one was hurt during the incident.

The male suspect was last seen wearing all black clothing and the female was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black mask, and a hat.

Detectives Investigating Shots Fired at a Hartly Residence

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning in Hartly.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 2000 block of Slaughter Station Road in Hartly for a report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect fired several rounds at the house from an unknown passing vehicle. Troopers recovered numerous shell casings at the scene. There were two adults in the home at the time of the shooting. No one was injured, and the motive behind the incident remains under investigation.

State Police Investigating Three-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Wilmington

The Delaware State Police are investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Wilmington that left one man dead.

On July 1, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., a gray 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Wilson Road. For unknown reasons, the Toyota failed to remain in its lane and entered the right shoulder, where it struck a mailbox on the 1000 block of Wilson Road. The Toyota then swerved back towards the roadway and crossed the solid double yellow line into the path of travel of a black 2011 Mercedes S550 traveling westbound on Wilson Road. As a result, the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Mercedes. After the collision, the Mercedes rotated counterclockwise and struck an occupied tan 2002 Buick LeSabre parked on the shoulder of westbound Wilson Road.

The driver of the Toyota, an 89-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 62-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Buick’s occupant, a 65-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

On June 30, 2024, at approximately 6:14 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Yellow Wood Drive in Harrington for a report that a house had been hit by gunfire. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect fired a shot from an unknown location and hit the house. There were two adults and two children in the home at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.

Detectives Investigating New Castle Area Sunoco Armed Carjacking

The Delaware State Police are investigating a New Castle area Sunoco gas station armed carjacking that occurred last night.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 10:07 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a carjacking that occurred at the Sunoco located at 285 Christiana Road in New Castle. Upon arriving, troopers learned that the 24-year-old victim was at the gas pumps in a Chevrolet Malibu when he was approached by a masked black male suspect who made unknown demands while threatening the victim with a firearm. The victim complied as the suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and car keys. The suspect then fled northbound on Airport Road in the victim’s car. The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as an unknown masked black male. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

Detectives Investigating Shooting at Rehoboth Restaurant Parking Lot

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at the Big Chill Surf Cantina parking lot in Rehoboth early this morning.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 12:51 a.m., troopers responded to the Big Chill Surf Cantina located at 19406 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth, for a report of a shooting. While responding to the scene, troopers received reports of a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg at a nearby hospital. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was among a group of several subjects that were involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of the restaurant. During the altercation, an unknown black male suspect pulls out a handgun from a bag and fires one shot at the victim. Following the shooting, all of the subjects involved in the altercation fled from the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle, where he was treated and released.

Through investigative means, detectives identified the suspect responsible for the shooting as 28-year-old Jonathan Blackwell of Milford, Delaware. Detectives obtained a warrant for Blackwell’s arrest for several felony offenses. Attempts to locate Blackwell (pictured below) remain ongoing.
