Troopers Investigating Serious Crash Involving a Motorcycle – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a motorcycle that took place at the intersection of Kirkwood Hwy., and Limestone Rd., Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:18 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019 on southbound Limestone Rd. (DE Rt. 7) at the intersection of Kirkwood Hwy. (DE Rt. 2). A 2000 Suzuki GX7 motorcycle, operated by a 28 year old New Castle man, was traveling southbound Limestone Rd. and had just proceeded through the intersection with Kirkwood Hwy. A 2014 Chevy Silverado, operated by a 58 year old Wilmington man, was turning on to southbound Limestone Rd., from Kirkwood Hwy. eastbound and merged in front of the Suzuki. The Suzuki operator lost control while trying to avoid colliding with the Chevy and laid the motorcycle down in the roadway. The initial investigation determined that the vehicles did not collide. The Suzuki came to rest in the roadway and the Chevy came to a stop and remained at the scene.

The operator of the Suzuki was transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevy was not injured.

No citations have been issued at this time.

Delaware State Police Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Dover, Delaware – Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the Delaware State Police will conduct their annual Police Memorial Service and Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Delaware State Police Training Academy, located at 1441 North DuPont Highway. The service will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Fellow Troopers, Family members, Relatives, and Friends will gather to remember those Troopers who have made the “Ultimate Sacrifice” in service to the State of Delaware.  Twenty Four, (24) Troopers have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1923.

Governor John C. Carney Jr., Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, Attorney General Kathy Jennings, Secretary Robert M. Coupe, Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Colonel Nathaniel McQueen Jr., Superintendent of  the Delaware State Police, Lieutenant Thomas Brackin President of the Delaware State Troopers Association and Mrs. Eleanor Allione will be in attendance and provide remarks.

This event is open to the media.

Lincoln- The Delaware State Police have identified the name of the driver who was killed in a single vehicle crash on April 29, 2019 on Johnson Road (CR207) east of Cedar Creek Road (SR30), as 76-year-old Margaret L. Hughes of Lincoln.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-Lincoln

Lincoln- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred this morning.

The incident occurred on April 29, 2019 at approximately 10:26 a.m., when a 2009 Kia Spectra was traveling westbound on Johnson Road (CR207) east of Cedar Creek Road (SR30). For an unknown reason, the operator of the Kia failed to maintain the travel lane and drove off the north edge of the roadway and struck a large standing tree.

The operator, a 76-year-old female of Lincoln was properly restrained.  She was transported to the Milford Bayhealth Campus Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced deceased.  Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Johnson Road was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

*Update #2* Homicide Investigation Leads Detectives to Arrest After Three Years – Townsend

After three years, the ongoing Homicide investigation of the Delaware State Police into the shooting death of Joshua James, 28 of Townsend, has led detectives to issue warrants for suspects Jamar L. Waters, 32 of Middletown, Delaware and Sylvester E. Gould Jr., 31 of Newark, Delaware. The indictments are for Murder 1st degree, Conspiracy, Home Invasion, Robbery 1st and two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited and Possession of Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. On April 24, 2019, suspect Sylvester Gould was arrested in Elkton, Maryland where he was being held on an out of state fugitive warrant pending extradition.  On Friday, April 26, 2019, Sylvester E. Gould Jr. was extradited back to Delaware. Sylvester E. Gould Jr. was processed at Troop 2 and arraigned before the Superior Court of New Castle County. Gould was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $1,085,000.00 cash bond. Suspect, Jamar Waters is currently a sentenced inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on unrelated charges.

State Police Detectives Conducting a Homicide Investigation, Townsend

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting death of a male subject that occurred at a Townsend area residence early this morning.

The investigation began this morning, Friday, April 22, 2016, at approximately 3:42 a.m., after troopers were called to respond to a residence located in the 500 block of Dogtown Road, Townsend, for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival troopers learned that two armed suspects had entered the home and confronted two male residents. It was then that a physical altercation occurred during which time one of the male victims was shot. Both suspects then fled from the residence in an unknown direction.

Emergency Medical Services personnel, who had also responded, performed advanced life saving efforts on the victim; however, he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. His body will be turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending the notification of his next of kin. The second male victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has responded to the scene and has assumed the investigation which includes conducting multiple interviews and collecting evidence. The investigation is in its early stages and so as to not jeopardize the investigation, specific details will not be released at this time.

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has identified the 28 year old Townsend, DE man who was shot and killed at a residence located in the 500 block of Dogtown Road, Townsend on Friday, April 22, 2016 as Joshua James.

Troopers Investigating Serious Crash – Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred late last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:54 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019 as a 2018 Kenworth T880 truck tractor hauling a tanker trailer, operated by a 48-year-old Georgetown man was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway, in the right travel lane approaching the intersection of Miller Road. The intersection is controlled by a traffic signal which was green for southbound traffic. A 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, operated by  a 63-year-old man of Lewes, was traveling eastbound on Miller Road and stopped for a red traffic signal located at the intersection of Coastal Highway. For unknown reasons the operator of the Ford Ranger pickup entered into the intersection directly into the path of the truck tractor. The operator of of the truck was unable to avoid a collision and the front bumper of the truck impacted the left side of pickup truck in the right travel lane of southbound Coastal Highway. After impact, the Ranger pickup truck traveled in a southwesterly direction, while rotating clockwise where it exited the roadway and came to an uncontrolled stop partially on the sidewalk along the west edge of the highway. Following the impact, the operator of the tractor trailer pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of southbound Coastal Highway and came to a controlled stop.

Alcohol and or drugs are not a factor on behalf of truck tractor and there is no indication that the operator of the Ranger pickup was impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Operator of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Operator of the Range pickup was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated for serious injuries and was later transported to Christiana Hospital.

Two southbound lanes of Coastal Highway were closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. One lane remained open.

The crash continues to remain under investigation.

Troopers Investigating Parking Lot Robbery-Wilmington

Wilmington, Delaware (19805) Delaware State Police are currently investigating a strong arm robbery of a man which occurred in the parking lot of a local area shopping center in front of a restaurant.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 9:46 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the La Cabana restaurant parking lot located at 1956 Maryland Avenue, Wilmington. The victim was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle parked directly in front of the business, when two suspects opened the front passenger side door and entered his vehicle. The suspects demanded money as they assaulted the victim. Suspects stole his cell phone and car keys. The victim sustained minor injury and refused medical treatment.

Both suspects fled on foot behind the restaurant towards the rear of the shopping center. The suspects were described as two black males approximately 20-25 years old.

No video surveillance photos are available at this time.

Troopers Seek Publics Assistance in Identifying Suspect

Rehoboth Beach- The Delaware State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the pictured suspect who is wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident and disregarding a police officer’s signal.

The incident occurred on April 24, 2019 at approximately 6:06 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Tanger Nike Outlet located at 36698 Bayside Outlet Drive for a shoplifting complaint.  Upon arrival Troopers were advised that the suspect removed approximately $80.00 worth of clothing and fled the store without rendering payment.

The suspect was seen fleeing the area in a maroon colored Pontiac Grand AM displaying PA registration, KYG1269.  Troopers located the occupied vehicle in the Seaside Outlet parking lot and initiated a traffic stop.  A brief pursuit ensued when the vehicle struck an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot and continued to flee from police.

The suspect was described as an African American male, wearing gray/white/orange colored sneakers, jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black hat.

Troopers have been unable to identify the suspect who is wanted out of Troop 7 for the following charges:

  • Disregarding a Police Officer’s signal
  • Shoplifting
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Leaving the scene of an Accident
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failure to Provide Information at a Collision Scene
  • Failure to Report a Collision
