“Private investigator” shall mean any person who engages in the business or accepts employment to obtain or furnish information or to conduct investigations.

What is the process to become a private investigator?

1. Individuals must come into one of our two locations for fingerprint and picture processing. Locations are listed below.

2. Individuals must complete the employee application, see the link below. Applications are also available at both locations

3.Upon approval, ID cards will be mailed to the address listed on the individual’s application.


What is the age requirement to be a private investigator?

You must be at least 21 years or older to apply.


What is the cost for a private investigator license?

There is a non-refundable $85.00 fee. We accept cash, certified check, Visa, Master Card, Discover, company check, or money order. We cannot accept personal checks or American Express.

The Board of Examiners of Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies, the regulatory body for this industry, meets on a quarterly basis. New licensure and renewals with changes of an agency must be approved by the Board of Examiners.

Security Guards/Firearm Guards

“Private security guard” shall mean an individual employed by a private security agency to perform one or more of the following functions; prevention of intrusion, entry, larceny, vandalism, abuse, fire, or trespass on private property.

“Armed” shall mean any private security guard who carries or has immediate access to a firearm in the performance of his or her duties.

What is the process to become a security guard?

1. Individuals must come into one of our two locations for fingerprint and picture processing. Locations are listed below.

2. Individuals must complete the employee application, see the link below. Applications are also available at both locations.

3. Turn in training and test certificates to the professional licensing section.

4. Upon approval and submission of training and test, ID cards will be mailed to the address listed on the individual’s application.

 

What is the process to become an armed security guard?

All applicants must complete a 40 hour firearms course with an approved instructor. See the link below for Approved Instructors. See Rules & Regulations 1.2 under the Firearm’s Policy for additional information.

You must be at least 18 years or older to apply.

You must be at least 21 years or older to apply.


What is the cost for a security guard license?
