State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Wilmington

The Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday morning in Wilmington.

On June 24, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Peterbilt dump truck was stopped at a red light on northbound Brookside Drive, at the intersection of North Maryland Avenue. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking westbound on the sidewalk along the eastbound side of North Maryland Avenue, approaching the intersection. The preliminary investigation revealed after the traffic signal turned green, the Peterbilt began making a left turn onto westbound North Maryland Avenue. As the truck was turning, the pedestrian entered its path and was struck by the front of the vehicle.

The pedestrian, a 57-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 47-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Arrest Woman After Attacking Two Employees at a Wilmington Tire Shop

The Delaware State Police arrested 32-year-old Amadi Muhammad, from Wilmington, Delaware, after attacking two employees last Friday at a tire shop in Wilmington.

On June 19, 2026, at approximately 12:15 p.m., troopers responded to Jose’s Tire Shop, located at 3700 North Market Street, for a reported hit-and-run collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that Muhammad had entered the business seeking repairs to her vehicle. When employees informed her that the shop could not perform the requested service, she became involved in a verbal dispute and refused to leave the property.

During the incident, Muhammad grabbed one employee by the shirt and punched a second employee. Investigators determined she then drove her vehicle toward one of the employees, nearly striking them before stopping. As she left the property, she collided with an unrelated parked vehicle.

The employees were not injured during the incident. The owner of the parked vehicle did not wish to pursue criminal charges related to the collision.

Through investigative efforts, troopers identified Muhammad as the suspect and obtained a warrant for her arrest.

On June 23, 2026, troopers located Muhammad in Wilmington and took her into custody without incident. She was taken to Troop 1 where she was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $5,000 secured bond.

State Police Obtain Arrest Warrant for Georgetown Man on Vehicular Assault and DUI Charges Following String of Hit-and-Run Crashes

The Delaware State Police obtained an arrest warrant for 36-year-old Angel Morales-Ortiz, from Georgetown, Delaware, for vehicular assault, driving under the influence, and related charges after he seriously injured a driver following multiple hit-and-run crashes Friday evening in Seaford.

On June 19, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., troopers responded to Old Furnace Road near Middleford Road for a report of a hit-and-run collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep Comanche was traveling northbound on Middleford Road approaching Old Furnace Road. At the same time, a Ford F-150 was stopped on westbound Old Furnace Road at the intersection of Middleford Road. As the Jeep turned right onto eastbound Old Furnace Road, it crossed into the westbound lane and sideswiped the F-150.

Following the collision, the Jeep continued eastbound on Old Furnace Road at a high rate of speed while committing multiple traffic violations. When the Jeep reached the intersection of Coverdale Road, it backed into the front of a Toyota Camry. The Jeep then drove around stopped traffic and continued eastbound on Old Furnace Road.

As the Jeep approached Cokesbury Road, it crossed into westbound lane and collided head-on with a Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, a 20-year-old man from Seaford, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, a 25-year-old woman from Bishopville, Maryland, and her passengers were not injured.

The Ford F-150’s driver, a 33-year-old Milford man, and a passenger were not injured.

Responding troopers contacted the Jeep’s driver, identified as Morales-Ortiz, and observed multiple signs of impairment. He was flown by the Delaware State Police Aviation Section to an area hospital with serious injuries.

During a search of the Jeep, troopers located multiple open containers of alcohol. A computer check also revealed that Morales-Ortiz’s driver’s license was suspended. Troopers subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant for a sample of his blood at the hospital.

Upon his release from the hospital, Morales-Ortiz will be charged with the following offenses:

State Police Investigating Fatal E-Bike Crash in Rehoboth Beach

The Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal electric bike crash that occurred late Saturday morning in Rehoboth Beach.

On June 20, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a GMC Sierra 2500 was traveling southbound in the left lane of Coastal Highway, north of Savages Ditch Road. At the same time, an e-bike rider was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway in the designated bicycle lane. For reasons currently being investigated, the e-bike rider exited the bicycle lane and entered the southbound travel lanes into the path of the GMC. As a result, the GMC struck the e-bike and its rider.

The e-bike rider, a 66-year-old woman from Potomac, Maryland, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld until her family has been notified.

The GMC’s driver, a 64-year-old man from Perryville, Maryland, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Arrest New Jersey Man Following Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed Two Teen Pedestrians in Townsend

The Delaware State Police arrested 23-year-old Nizaiah Ellis, from Newfield, New Jersey, after leaving the scene of a crash that claimed the lives of two teenage pedestrians early Saturday morning in Townsend.

On June 20, 2026, at approximately 1:10 a.m., two pedestrians were walking an electric bike in or near the left lane of southbound Dupont Parkway, south of Denny Lynn Drive. At the same time, a Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Dupont Parkway toward the pedestrians. The preliminary investigation revealed the front of the Nissan struck both pedestrians. Following the collision, the driver initially stopped but then continued traveling southbound, leaving the scene.

Troopers later located the Nissan traveling southbound on Dupont Parkway near Paddock Road in Smyrna and conducted a traffic stop. Troopers contacted the driver, identified as Nizaiah Ellis, and observed damage to the Nissan consistent with the collision. Ellis was taken into custody without incident and taken to Troop 9. Through the investigation, troopers confirmed the Nissan was involved in the crash.

The pedestrians, a 17-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both from Townsend, Delaware, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld until their families have been notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Ellis was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $12,050 secured bond.

*Update – Suspect Arrested* State Police Investigating Armed Robbery in Wilmington

The Delaware State Police arrested a 15-year-old male from Wilmington, Delaware, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred late May in Wilmington.

On May 29, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., troopers responded to the rear of a business in the 3800 block of Kirkwood Highway for a reported armed robbery. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim connected with a suspect through the social media platform TikTok. The two agreed to meet at a location on Maryland Avenue in Wilmington to ride their electric bikes together. After meeting, the two rode around the area for a period of time before the suspect lured the victim to the rear of a business on Kirkwood Highway under the pretense of creating videos.

Once behind the business, a second masked suspect approached the victim, displayed a handgun, and demanded the victim’s electric bike. The victim complied and both suspects fled the area with the stolen bike. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case. Through investigative efforts, detectives identified the armed suspect as the 15-year-old and obtained a search warrant for his residence located in the unit block of Courtyard Lane in Wilmington.

On June 18, 2026, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team, detectives executed the search warrant and took the teenager into custody without incident.

The teen was taken to Troop 2 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the New Castle County Family Court, and committed to the Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families on a $5,000 secured bond.

  • Robbery First Degree (Felony)
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
