State Police Arrest Two Wilmington Men for Robbing Armed Security Guard in New Castle

The Delaware State Police arrested 19-year-old Donald Shepherd and 18-year-old Sy Aire Wilson, both from Wilmington, Delaware, for robbery and related charges after forcefully disarming an armed hotel security guard and stealing his gun mid-June in New Castle.

On June 13, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., troopers responded to the Best Night Inn, located at 1200 West Avenue, for a report of a robbery. The preliminary investigation revealed two suspects approached an armed security guard employed by the hotel, physically restrained him, and removed his firearm from the holster before fleeing the area in a sedan. The security guard was not injured during the incident.

Through investigative efforts, troopers determined the getaway vehicle was a Nissan Sentra and identified the suspects as Shepherd and Wilson. The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case.

With assistance from the United States Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force, detectives located the Sentra in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania. During the investigation, detectives learned the suspects were staying in an apartment in the unit block of Fairway Road in Newark and obtained a search warrant for the residence.

On June 30, 2026, members of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team assisted detectives with executing the search warrant. During the search, Shepherd and Wilson were taken into custody without incident.

Shepherd was taken to Troop 2 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $18,000 cash bond.

State Police Arrest New Castle Man on Cocaine Distribution Charges Following Drug Investigation

The Delaware State Police arrested 41-year-old John Dupree II, from New Castle, Delaware, after resisting arrest during a cocaine distribution investigation Monday afternoon in New Castle.

In early June 2026, the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit received information indicating that John Dupree II was distributing large quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine throughout New Castle and Kent counties. Through investigative efforts, detectives learned Dupree was planning to sell another large quantity of narcotics on June 29, 2026, at Beaver Brook Plaza in New Castle.

On June 29, at approximately 3:40 p.m., detectives saw Dupree arrive at the shopping center and park his vehicle. Detectives approached the vehicle while ordering Dupree to exit. Dupree refused to comply and repeatedly reached around the vehicle while disobeying troopers’ commands. A short time later, troopers forced their way into the vehicle and Dupree was taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of the vehicle, detectives located approximately 127 grams of suspected powder cocaine. Detectives also determined Dupree had tampered with the suspected cocaine while refusing to exit the vehicle.

Depree was taken to Troop 3 where he was charged on the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $51,100 cash bond.

State Police Arrest Wilmington Woman for Drug and DUI Related Charges Following a Crash

The Delaware State Police arrested 28-year-old Ricarda Sandoval of Wilmington, Delaware, on felony drug possession and driving under the influence charges following a crash early Saturday morning in Wilmington.

On June 27, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m., troopers responded to the area of Centre Road and Faulkland Road for a report of a collision between two vehicles. Upon arrival, the trooper contacted one of the drivers involved, identified as Ricarda Sandoval, who showed signs of impairment. The trooper administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and took Sandoval into custody without incident. Subsequent search of Sandoval’s purse led to the discovery of approximately 11.5 grams of crack cocaine stored in 20 small plastic bags and approximately 5.64 grams of methamphetamine stored in 8 small plastic bags.

Sandoval was taken to Troop 6, where she was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $20,352 secured bond.

State Police Investigating Armed Robbery at Wilmington Shopping Center

The Delaware State Police is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Monday evening at a shopping center in Wilmington.

On June 29, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., troopers responded to a shopping center in the 3100 block of Kirkwood Highway for a report of an armed robbery. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was walking through the parking lot selling candy when an unknown suspect approached and demanded the victim’s property. When the victim initially refused, the suspect displayed a handgun. The victim then complied, and the suspect fled the scene with the victim’s property. The victim was not injured during the incident.

State Police Investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting in Magnolia

The Delaware State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting of an armed man involved in a domestic incident that occurred on Monday night in Magnolia.

On June 29, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to the 100 block of East Cherry Drive in Magnolia for a reported domestic incident. While responding, troopers learned that 37-year-old Kristopher Glanden of Frederica, who was reported to be suicidal, was armed with a handgun and attempting to enter the residence where his ex and other family members were sheltered inside.

When troopers arrived, they located Glanden in the front yard.  Despite numerous requests, he refused to comply with commands and, during the incident, pointed a handgun at the troopers.  Two troopers then fired their division-issued weapons, striking Glanden. They provided first aid until EMS arrived, but he died at the scene.

In accordance with DSP standard operating procedures for officer-involved shootings, the Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. Detectives recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from the scene.

The involved troopers, who were uninjured, have been placed on administrative leave while a use-of-force investigation is conducted in collaboration with the Delaware Department of Justice’s Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust.

State Police Investigating Shooting in Newark

The Delaware State Police is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening in Newark.

On June 27, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., troopers responded to a local hospital for a report of two individuals who arrived with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The Criminal Investigations Unit responded and took over the case.

Through investigative efforts, detectives determined the shooting may have occurred on Otts Chapel Road near Elkton Road in Newark. Detectives responded to the location and located multiple spent shell casings.

State Police Arrest Wilmington Man Following Organized Retail Theft Investigation

The Delaware State Police arrested 65-year-old Eric Tillman, of Wilmington, Delaware, following a months-long organized retail theft investigation involving multiple businesses throughout New Castle County.

In March 2026, the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit received information that Tillman was recruiting individuals struggling with drug addiction to steal merchandise from retail stores in exchange for a fraction of the items’ retail value. During the investigation, detectives determined Tillman targeted numerous retailers throughout New Castle County, including, but not limited to, Giant, Walgreens, CVS, Target, and the Kenny Family ShopRite stores.

With assistance from the New Jersey State Police Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office and loss prevention personnel from the affected retailers, detectives learned Tillman transported the stolen merchandise to a storage unit in New Jersey before reselling the items at multiple flea markets throughout the state.

On June 8, 2026, detectives located Tillman in Wilmington and took him into custody without incident. Following his arrest, detectives executed search warrants at his Wilmington residence, a storage unit in New Jersey, and two vehicles. During the searches, detectives recovered approximately 4,317 items of suspected stolen merchandise with an estimated retail value of $70,292.36.

Tillman was taken to Troop 2 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and released on a $8,000 unsecured bond.

State Police Investigating Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Milford

The Delaware State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday night in Milford.

On June 26, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on Milford Harrington Highway at a high rate of speed, approaching the intersection of Church Hill Road. At the same time, a Nissan Rogue had just turned right onto Milford Harrington Highway westbound from Church Hill Road. For reasons currently being investigated, the front of the Ford collided into the rear of the Nissan. As a result of the impact, the Nissan rotated, overturned into a utility pole, and became engulfed in fire.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan, whose identities are unknown at this time, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old man from Harrington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Arrest Philadelphia Man on Felony Weapon and DUI Charges Following Vehicle Fire on I-495

The Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Isaiah Church, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on felony weapons and driving under the influence of alcohol charges after his vehicle caught on fire Wednesday night on I-495.

On June 24, 2026, at approximately 10:50 p.m., troopers responded to the northbound lanes of I-495 near East Holly Oak Road for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, troopers found a Subaru Outback fully engulfed in flames and observed the driver walking away from the vehicle. Troopers stopped the driver, who was identified as Isaiah Church. A local fire company responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

During the investigation, troopers conducted a search and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and two large-capacity magazines from Church. He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators observed several signs of impairment and learned that Church had recently consumed alcohol. Church was transported to Troop 1, where troopers continued their DUI investigation. During the investigation, he continued to exhibit signs of impairment.

Church was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and released on a $6,300 unsecured bond.
