Detectives Investigating Shooting in Bear Area Shopping Center

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Sunset Station parking lot in Bear on Sunday morning.

On March 2, 2025, at approximately 10:51 a.m., troopers responded for a report of shots fired at Sunset Station shopping center, located at 1835 Pulaski Highway in Bear. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was driving through the parking lot in a Chevrolet Equinox when he encountered 3 unknown male suspects walking in the road. The suspects and the victim began arguing, during which the victim briefly got out of his vehicle. As the victim entered his vehicle after the argument, 2 of the suspects pulled out handguns, and fired an unknown number of shots at the victim’s Equinox. The vehicle was struck by gunfire; however, the victim was not injured. After the shooting, the suspects fled on foot towards the neighborhood behind the shopping center. Troopers searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate them.

The suspects are described as 3 unknown black males wearing dark-colored clothing. At least 2 of the suspects are possibly armed. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

State Police Investigating Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Hockessin

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Hockessin.

On March 2, 2025, at approximately 4:09 p.m., a silver 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Newport Gap Pike, approaching the intersection with Valley Lane. At the same time, a gray 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling northbound on Newport Gap Pike, approaching Valley Lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep crossed into the northbound lane, directly into the path of the Freightliner. As a result, the front of the Jeep collided with the front of the Freightliner.

A passenger of the Jeep, a 2-year-old male from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was taken to an area hospital for serious injuries. Additional passengers of the Jeep: a 34-year-old woman, a 16-year-old male, and an 11-year-old female, all from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, were taken to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 60-year-old man from North East, Maryland, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 7 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared the roadway.

State Police Detectives Investigating Shooting in Lincoln

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Lincoln Friday night.

On February 28, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., troopers responded to the 9000 block of Bunting Avenue in Lincoln for a report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect fired an unknown number of shots from a light-colored vehicle. Two vehicles were hit by gunfire, one of which was occupied by two people. No one was hurt during the incident.

State Police Investigating Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Smyrna

The Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred yesterday morning in Smyrna that left one man dead.

On February 26, 2025, at approximately 9:38 a.m., a 1995 Freightliner dump truck was traveling in the right southbound lane of Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway (State Route 1), approaching the East Commerce Street overpass in Smyrna. A blown tire caused the Freightliner to exit the right side of the roadway. As it continued traveling in a southwesterly direction off the roadway, the Freightliner struck a steep berm, and ultimately overturned.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 63-year-old man from Magnolia, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital, where he died. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Fatal Head-On Crash in Selbyville

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal head-on crash that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Selbyville.

On February 26, 2025, at approximately 2:44 p.m., a Jeep Gladiator was traveling southbound on Hudson Road north of Lynch Road. At the same time, a Freightliner tractor was traveling northbound on Hudson Road. For reasons still under investigation, the jeep crossed into the northbound lane, directly into the path of the tractor. The driver of the tractor attempted to swerve right to avoid the crash, but its front collided with the jeep in a head-on collision.

The driver of the jeep, a 60-year-old man from Selbyville, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified. The driver of the tractor, a 60-year-old man from Dover, Delaware, was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
