Troopers Investigate a Home Invasion – Woodside

Woodside, DE – Troopers are investigating a home invasion that occurred outside of Woodside late Thursday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. Thursday June 9, 2016 in the unit block of Four Acre Drive, as three males forcefully entered the residence that was occupied by a 25-year-old male, 26-year-old female, and a 19-year-old female. The suspects, who were armed with unknown type handguns, demanded cash and their cell phones.  The victims complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim’s cell phones before the three suspects fled the house.  The trio then entered a silver four door vehicle parked outside where a fourth suspect was waiting in the car.  The vehicle then traveled northbound on Upper King Road.  None of the victims were injured during this incident.

The three suspects were all described as a black males wearing masks over their faces (No further physical or clothing description available). They were all armed with unknown types of handguns.  There was no description for the fourth suspect.

Detectives have determined through preliminary interviews and investigation that this was not a random act and believe the victims may have been targeted in the home invasion.

**Update #2 – Krytzer Arrested** Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Little Heaven- Detectives with the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit have arrested Zachary M. Krytzer.

Upon Krytzer’s release from the hospital this afternoon, Thursday June 9, 2016, he was transported to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with Vehicular Homicide 1st and Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.  He was video arraigned at JP2 and released after posting $20,500.00 secured bond.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash 

Little Heaven- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred earlier this afternoon in Little Heaven.

The incident occurred around 1:55 p.m., Tuesday June 7, 2016, as Zachary M. Krytzer, 27 of Milton, was operating a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero southbound on Bay Road (SR1) just south of Clapham Road. Heath B. Janssen, 41 of Dover, a Verizon employee, had just completed a check of the phone lines under a manhole cover and was standing behind his work truck, a 2006 Ford F36 box truck, placing equipment in the back of the vehicle.  The truck was stopped on the southbound shoulder surrounded by cones north of the entrance to the Valero gas station located at 7865 Bay Road.  The Montero drifted onto the southbound shoulder and struck a mailbox and then a road reflector before striking and pinning Janssen to the rear of his work vehicle.  The Verizon truck was pushed forward approximately 36’ on the southbound shoulder while the Montero continued southbound an additional 23’ and came to a stop.

Heath Janssen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zachary Krytzer, who was properly restrained, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Bayhealth Kent General where he is currently admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and charges are forthcoming. It should be noted that prior to the crash, the Montero was reported by witnesses to have been weaving between both southbound lanes of SR1.  SR1 southbound was closed at Clapham Road for three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Joint Investigation Leads to the Arrest of a Smyrna Man Following a String of Burglaries

New Castle, DE – Delaware State Police and the Smyrna Police Department have arrested a Smyrna, DE man following a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries he had committed since this past April.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at approximately 7:30 a.m., State Troopers, with the assistance of officers from the Smyrna Police Department, apprehended Thomas Norris, 54, as he was exiting the Delasoft business, located at 92 Reads Way, New Castle, which he had just burglarized. Norris, who was in possession of a stolen laptop computer when he was apprehended, is suspected in the burglary or attempted burglary of nine businesses located throughout New Castle County and northern Kent County in both State Police and Smyrna Police jurisdictions. In each case, Norris would enter an unsecured office building and then force his way into separate businesses inside. He would then remove electronic items from the businesses before fleeing. State Police Burglary Unit detectives and the Smyrna Police Department began a joint investigation after noticing a trend in the style of burglaries, which began in April of 2016 in both State Police and Smyrna Police Department jurisdictions.

Through the course of the investigation, which included the review of video surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify Thomas Norris as the suspect. Norris was arrested and transported to Troop 2, Glasgow, where he was charged with 6 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, 2 counts of Attempted Burglary 3rd degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, 4 counts of Theft over $1500.00, Criminal Mischief, and Theft under $1500.00. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution for lack of $29,500 secured bail.

Troopers Investigate Robbery of New Castle Pharmacy

New Castle, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a New Castle area pharmacy that occurred early yesterday afternoon.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 9, 2016 at approximately 1:13 p.m., as a male suspect entered the Rite Aid pharmacy, located at 501 E. Basin Road, New Castle. The suspect displayed a knife, confronted a female employee, and demanded money from the cash registers. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him. He then exited the business and was last seen fleeing toward the William Penn Village Apartments. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a white male. He was 5’03”-5’06” tall, weighed 130-145 lbs., and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark colored sweat pants, dark boots, and had a bandanna covering part of his face.

Troopers Investigate Royal Farms Robbery

Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the robbery of a Wilmington area Royal Farms store which occurred early yesterday morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. yesterday, Tuesday, June 7, 2016, as a male suspect entered the Royal Farms located at 3701 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. The suspect then approached the sales counter and requested several cartons of cigarettes from the female clerk. The clerk complied with the suspect’s request. It was at this time that the suspect implied that he was armed and grabbed the cigarettes from the clerk which had been placed in a bag. The clerk briefly resisted by holding on to the bag, however, the suspect was able to obtain the cigarettes before exiting the store. He then fled in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 35-45 years of age, 5’11”-6’01” tall, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, black sneakers, and glasses. There is no further physical or clothing description available.

Milford Man Charged with 5th Offense DUI

Milford, DE- The Delaware State Police arrested a Milford man for his 5th offense DUI after he was found passed out behind the wheel of his car.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday June 7, 2016, after a concerned citizen contacted the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (9-1-1) to report a subject unconscious behind the wheel of a brown Ford Taurus stopped in the area of the 7000 block of North Union Church Road. Just prior to that, a caller advised the Ford Taurus was traveling southbound all over the road.  Upon the arrival of troopers and EMS, Jeffrey A. Bradley, 29 of Milford, was located in the driver’s seat passed out and was revived by EMS performing a sternum rub.  He immediately became disorderly with the emergency responders on the scene and was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital where he was evaluated by hospital staff.  While in the emergency room, Bradley once again became combative with the staff and attempted to flee the hospital, but was unsuccessful and was once again placed in custody by a trooper.

Jeffrey Bradley was eventually released and transported to Troop 5 in Bridgeville where a computer check revealed he had four previous DUI convictions (06/30/06, 05/01/07, 04/21/08, and 04/21/10) this arrest would make number five. He was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Resisting Arrest, Failure to Have Insurance in Possession, and Failure to Have Registration in Possession.  He was arraigned a JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,500.00 cash bond.

The Delaware State Police would like to share this information on road closures and expected traffic delays provided by the Delaware Department of Transportation.

A message from DELDOT Press Release — June 7, 2016 Oversized Loads To Travel Kent and New Castle Roads Dover — The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces their contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc. will be receiving multiple shipments of pre-cast beams starting tomorrow, June 8, to erect a new bridge over Puncheon Run Creek and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks for the West Dover Connector Project. Shipment of the beams from Pottsville, PA to Dover will take place over multiple days and require the temporary daytime closures of the northbound and southbound lanes of the Roth Bridge on Delaware Route 1 in the form of rolling roadblocks. These closures are a permit requirement by the US Army Corps of Engineers and will occur for short periods of time during non-rush hour traffic from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, June 8; Monday, June 13; Tuesday, June 14; Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23; Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30; Tuesday, July 5; and Wednesday, July 6. Other portions of the route — the I-495 bridges over the Christina River and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks — will require speed reductions to 15 mph in one southbound lane. Traffic delays are expected. The following roadways will experience temporary road closures or delays: -I-495 southbound to I-95 southbound — including 15 mph speed limits on the Christina River Bridge and the bridge over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks -SR 1 southbound to Dover -Roth Bridge northbound and southbound will be completely closed with rolling road blocks -Exit 104/Scarborough Road -Delaware Route 15 southbound to Wyoming Mill Road Delaware State Police and DelDOT personnel will accompany the oversized loads with temporary road blocks and provide intersection control along the routes. The shipments will typically include the use of two tractor-trailers. The maximum load length will be 190 feet and the heaviest load will be 234,500 pounds. The beams are being shipped from Northeast Prestressed Products, LLC in Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Dover. DelDOT and the US Army Corps of Engineers have previously approved the movement of similar loads through the state, including over the Roth Bridge. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the Roth Bridge. The state of Pennsylvania does not allow superloads to occur at night and temporary storage of the beams on the roadside until night hours in Delaware is not safe. The load is not weather dependent and no loads will be permitted on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays and during the Firefly Festival on June 15 through June 19. Troopers Seek Public’s Help Identifying Subject

Cheswold – The Delaware State Police is asking the public’s assistance in attempting to identify a male subject that inappropriately touched two females.

The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday June 2, 2016 as a 54-year-old female had just checked out at a register at the Walmart located at 36 Jerome Drive. A male subject began following the female out of the store and began a conversation with her.  At one point, as the female is facing away from the male, he reached into his pants and pulled out his penis, pressing up against her and startling her.  The male then flees the area in a tan/gold colored SUV with possible Delaware registration.  Further investigation revealed that the same subject had placed his hand on the back of a 31-year-old female as she was checking out approximately 20 minutes earlier.  The female was offended by his actions and informed the subject to keep his hands to himself before the two went their separate ways.

The suspect depicted in the surveillance images is described as a white male between the ages of 30-40 years old, standing approximately 5’05″-5’11” tall, wearing a black and white head cover, blue/green shirt, dark pants, and sneakers. He may be operating a tan/gold colored SUV with possible Delaware registration.

**Traffic Advisory** Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Little Heaven- The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash on Bay Road (SR1) southbound, just south of Clapham Road that occurred around 1:55 p.m. this afternoon.

Preliminary investigation indicates the crash involved an SUV and a van and one person has died at the scene. The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently on scene and will assume the investigation.

SR1 southbound south of Clapham Road is closed at this time. Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

Further details will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.
