Troopers Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash West of Magnolia

Magnolia, DE – Troopers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early this morning west of Magnolia.

The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 7:40 a.m. Thursday July 21, 2016, as Nathaniel P. Benton, 21 of Magnolia, was operating a 2006 Yamaha R6 motorcycle southbound on Peachtree Run Road approaching Irish Hill Road. Benton failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection and continued straight across Irish Hill Road and into a soybean field where he was ejected from the motorcycle.

A concerned friend located the crash scene this morning after Benton failed to return home.

Nathaniel Benton, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol may have been a factor in this case.  Irish Hill Road at Peachtree Run Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance in Identifying Shoplifting Suspect

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a pair of shoplifting incidents and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect.

Troopers are attempting to identify the pictured male suspect who entered the Walgreens, located at 15 University Plaza, Newark, on Friday, July 15, 2016. The suspect proceeded to gather several personal care products which were on display for sale before exiting the store without paying for the products. He was last seen fleeing the parking lot in an unknown make and model vehicle. There were no injuries.

The same suspect entered the CVS located at 402 N. Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, and again removed numerous personal care items from display. He then placed the items in a basket before fleeing the store without paying. Again there were no injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25-35 years of age. He was 6’00”, weighs approximately 190 lbs., and has a bald head and multiple tattoos on his arms.

Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 41 year old Philadelphia, PA man who was the operator of the Ford Escape involved in the fatal motor vehicle crash on SR 1 in Townsend on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, as Corey Fahey.

This crash remains under investigation.

**Original Release**

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a Philadelphia man that occurred early this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, as a 41 year old Philadelphia, PA, man was operating a 2005 Ford Escape and was traveling in a northbound direction on SR1, just north of Fieldsboro Road, Townsend. For an unknown reason, the Escape drifted off of the east side of the roadway where it then struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then traveled approximately 50’ in a northbound direction before coming to rest.

The male operator of the Ford, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Care Middletown Emergency Room, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Northbound traffic on SR1 was restricted to one lane for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Arrest Two Teens Following Armed Robbery

New Castle, DE- Delaware State Police have arrested two 17 year olds after they robbed a pair of juveniles of their bikes last night in New Castle.

The incident began at approximately 8:50 p.m. last night, Tuesday, July 19, 2016, as two 14 year old male subjects responded to the Dollar Tree, located at 1230 S. DuPont Highway, New Castle. The two teens then left the bikes that they had been riding on the sidewalk in front of the store and entered the business. A short time later, the teens exited the store and found that their bikes where now missing. They were then contacted by a passing witness who advised that their bikes had been taken by two subjects who were currently riding them through the parking lot. One of the victims then observed the suspects on the bikes and began to chase them. As the suspects reached the area of Rt. 13, one of them, later identified as Mayhew D. Watson, III, 17, of Wilmington, stopped the bike that he was riding, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and pointed it at the victim. The victim then turned and fled on foot. The victims then contacted 9-1-1 and provided a description of the suspects and their bikes to the call taker. The victims were not injured.

A short time later a responding trooper observed the two suspects riding the stolen bikes in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart located at 117 Wilton Boulevard, New Castle. Mayhew D. Watson (white tank top), and Jowan Whitley, 17, of Wilmington (grey t-shirt), were both taken into custody without incident. The stolen bikes were returned to the victims.

Mayhew Watson and Jowan Whitley were transported to Troop 2 where they were each charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Theft. Watson was arraigned at JP Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center for lack of $63,000.00 cash bond. Jowan Whitley was also arraigned at JP Court 11. He was then released on $12,500.00 unsecured bond.

Dover, DE- Delaware State Police Homicide Unit detectives are continuing to conduct a murder-suicide investigation after a 25 year old Dover woman was found dead in an apartment in Dover this morning.

The investigation began at approximately 1:55 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, after officers from the Dover Police Department responded to the intersection of US Rt. 13 and Webbs Lane, Dover, for the report of a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Upon their arrival, Dover officers learned that a 36 year old male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle after he had walked into its path on US Rt. 13. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. During the subsequent investigation, a vehicle was found with its engine running in the parking lot of the Wendy’s Restaurant located on US Rt. 13 at Webbs Lane. A computer inquiry of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it was registered to the deceased pedestrian.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. officers from the Dover Police Department then responded to the registered address of the deceased male located at 51 Webbs Lane, Alder Park Apartments, in order to make contact with the male victim’s next of kin.  Upon their arrival, the officers came into contact with a male occupant of the apartment and asked to speak to the deceased victim’s wife. It was at this point that the body of the 25 year old female, wife of the deceased pedestrian was located in the rear bedroom of the apartment suffering from an obvious injury to her torso area. It was learned that the male occupant, who rents a room at the apartment, did not know that the female victim was deceased in the bedroom before the arrival of the officers.

Detectives are continuing their investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. The female victim has been identified as Wislene Volcy Deborne, 25, and the male pedestrian has been identified as Pierre Rubens Volcy, 36, both of Dover.  A 2 year old son of the couple was taken from the apartment to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital after the female was located, and reported to have no injuries.  He was turned over to the care of the Delaware Division of Family Services.

Troopers Investigate Shots Fired Complaint

Felton, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident in which shots were fired at a house north of Felton late Saturday evening.

The investigation began at approximately 9:43 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016, as troopers responded to the 1000 block of Andrews Lake Road, after a 9-1-1 call was received from a neighbor of the victim stating someone shot at the house. The 52-year-old female victim informed arriving troopers that she was at the back of the house and her 32-year-old daughter was in the living room when they heard sounds of gunfire outside. None of the residents were injured.

Troopers conducted an extensive search of the area for any potential suspects or vehicles in the area. None were located.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
