Newark (19702)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a 25 year old man that occurred this morning in Newark.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at approximately 4:02 a.m., as Maria Campos, 50, of Bear, DE, was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe and was traveling in a westbound direction on Old Baltimore Pike just west of the Salem Church Road and Salem Woods Road intersection. It was at this time that the Tahoe ran over a 25 year old Newark man who was reported to have been laying in the westbound lane of travel. The male was drug several feet in a westbound direction until the Tahoe came to a controlled stop just west of the scene.

The male victim was declared dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. Alcohol use on the part of the victim is being considered as a contributing factor in the collision.

Maria Campos was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Old Baltimore Pike was closed between both the north and south  extensions of Salem Church Road for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

New Castle (19720) – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the attempted robbery of a New Castle area gas station that occurred yesterday morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident happened at approximately 6:16 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Sunoco located at 285 Christiana Road. The suspect, who had a mask partially covering his face, approached the enclosed sales counter and ordered the female clerk inside to open the door. The clerk however refused. The suspect, who did not imply that he was armed or display a weapon, then exited the store and fled in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 5’08”-6’02” tall, weighed 180-200 lbs., and was last seen wearing a black jacket, brown sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black shoes. There is no further physical or clothing description available. No video surveillance photos are available to be released at this time.

Seaford- Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery of a Seaford area store that occurred last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:19 p.m., Wednesday January 11, 2017, as two male suspects, both armed with an unknown type handguns, entered Deluxe Dairy Market,  located at 10599 Concord Road.  The suspects jumped the counter and demanded cash from the employees who were forced to the floor.  The suspects then removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the registers and cigarettes before exiting the store and fleeing in an unknown direction.  The clerks were not injured.

The suspects were described as black males wearing masks and gloves (No further clothing or physical description).  Both were armed with an unknown type handguns.

Dover – The Delaware State Police Kent County Governor’s Task Force (GTF) has arrested a Dover man after information was received into the manufacturing of Methamphetamine (Meth) in a resident’s shed.

On Tuesday January 10, 2017 at approximately 4:40 p.m., the Kent County Governors Task Force (GTF), along with Probation and Parole Officers assigned to the unit, responded to the unit block of Wayne Drive, Kent Acres development, in order to attempt to make contact with two subjects who were wanted for capiases and violation of probation, along with following up on information received about a possible Meth lab at the residence.  Upon arrival, neither of the subjects in question were located and the homeowner consented to a search of the property.  Prior to conducting a search of the shed, troopers and probation officers made contact with Gerald W. Shields, 36 of Dover who was initially standing to the rear of the house near the shed.  Upon conducting a search of the shed, detectives located equipment and component mixtures of the manufacturing stages of Meth along with key ingredients in making the drug, as well as 1.2 grams of Meth.

Gerald Shields was transported to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with Operating a Clandestine Laboratory, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), and Possession of Methamphetamine.  He was arraigned at JP7 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $10,100.00 secured.

No evacuations were ordered as it was determined that there was no immediate hazard to nearby residents. DNREC also responded to the residence to assisted with the search and containment of the combustible substances.

Smyrna – The Delaware State Police have arrested two men in connection with the Smyrna area thefts from vehicles.

Between December 29, 2016 and January 2, 2017 troopers saw an increase in thefts from vehicles at over a dozen locations south of Smyrna, particularly the Sunnyside Road and Sheridan Lane areas.  State Police learned that an undetermined number of suspects entered approximately at least a dozen different vehicles stealing items and also rummaging through unsecured vehicles. The suspects stole items ranging from purses to electronic devices, and U.S. currency.  In most of these cases the vehicles were parked in the victim’s driveways and were unsecured.  In one particular case, a surveillance camera captured an image of a suspect (see attached).

Through the investigation, Craig N. Jones, 26, and Nairobi Wanamaker, 46, both of Smyrna, were responsible for the thefts after they had been arrested by Smyrna Police Department on January 3, 2017 for similar incidents within their jurisdiction.  On January 10, 2017, detectives with the Troop 3 Property Crimes Unit arrested the duo on more than a dozen charges including Burglary, Theft, Criminal Trespass, and Conspiracy.  They were arraigned at JP2 and remain committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $18,013.00 secured (Jones) and $10,005.00 secured (Wanamaker) bond.

State Police Probe Thefts from Vehicles

Smyrna – Over the past couple of weeks, the Delaware State Police has seen an increase in thefts from vehicles at over a dozen locations south of Smyrna, particularly the Sunnyside Road and Sheridan Lane areas.

State Police learned that an undetermined number of suspects entered approximately at least a dozen different vehicles stealing items and also rummaging through unsecured vehicles. The suspects stole items ranging from purses to electronic devices, and U.S. currency.  In most of these cases the vehicles were parked in the victim’s driveways and were unsecured.  In one particular case, a surveillance camera captured an image of a suspect (see attached).

The Delaware State Police urge people to utilize the following tips:

• Lock your car doors and roll up you windows
• Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
• Leave outdoor lights on in the driveway or have security lighting installed
• Report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately

Greenwood – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning south of Greenwood.

The incident occurred around 2:46 a.m. Wednesday January 11, 2017 as Aaron J. Marchincin, 32 of Seaford was operating a 2011 Ford E250 Econoline van, northbound on Sussex Hwy (US13), just north of Adams Road approaching the limits of Greenwood.  Antonio Lambert, 47 of Greenwood, was walking across the northbound lanes of US13 from west to east when the van struck him in the right travel lane, throwing him into the grass median.  The van was able to come to a controlled stop just north of impact.

Antonio Lambert, who was wearing dark colored clothing and not crossing in a cross walk or carrying a flashlight, was removed from the scene and initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where he is admitted in critical condition.

Aaron Marchincin was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol may be a factor on behalf of Lambert.  US13 northbound in the area of collision was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Smyrna – The Delaware State Police have arrested two teens in connection with an early Tuesday evening robbery of a pizza delivery person.

The incident occurred around 5:52 p.m. Tuesday January 10, 2017 when troopers received a call from the manager of the Pizza Hut in Smyrna advising that one of the drivers had been robbed while making a delivery.  The investigation revealed the 46-year-old female employee was making a delivery to the 100 block of Nita Drive, located in the Garrison Lake Green Development.  When she arrived at the residence, two male subjects approached her wearing masks and pointing handguns.  They demanded her consumable goods as well as her money ($2.00), all of which she complied and turned over.  The two then fled through the yard towards Leena Lane.

Troopers with the assistance of Clayton Police Department and a Smyrna Police Department K9 Unit began a track in the area of the incident which led to the officers to a residence in the unit block of Leena Lane.  Troopers made contact with the homeowners and obtained a consent to search and were able to located the items, including a mask and BB guns, along with the pizza and other consumable goods that were linked to the robbery.

Travonne Randolph, 16, and Taalibudeen Anderson, 15, both of Smyrna were taken into custody at the residence and transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where they were both charged with Robbery 1st, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy 2nd.  Randolph was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest.  The two were arraigned at JP7 and committed to Stevenson House on secured bonds.

The victim was uninjured in this incident.

New Castle (19720) – Delaware State Police are currently investigating the robbery of an area food mart that occurred last night.

The investigation has determined that the incident happened at approximately 9:18 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Shell Food Mart located at 299 Christiana Road, New Castle. The suspect then approached the sales counter where he confronted a male employee and implied that he was armed with a weapon. The suspect ordered the employee away from the cash register and then proceeded to remove an undisclosed amount of money from the register. He then exited the business and was last seen fleeing on foot in a westbound direction. The clerk was not injured and a weapon was never displayed.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 25 years of age, 5’11”-6’00” tall, weighed 160-175 lbs., and was last seen wearing a black jacket, brown hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jeans, black shoes, and had a mask partially covering his face.

Wilmington (19810)- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the robbery of a Wilmington area Exxon station that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Monday, January 9, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Exxon gas station located at 1801 Foulk Road. The suspect approached the sales counter and provided the male clerk with a demand note for money. The suspect also implied that he was armed, although a weapon was not displayed. The clerk complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to him. The suspect then exited the store and was last seen fleeing on Foulk Road in a small unknown make and model vehicle. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 6’00”-6’02” tall, weighed approximately 160 lbs., and was last seen wearing light-colored pants and a black hooded sweatshirt. He also had a mask partially covering his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available. No video surveillance photos are available at this time.
