**Traffic Advisory** Troopers Investigating Crash – Wilmington

Wilmington, De.  – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred east of Wilmington, injuring one person.

The incident occurred this morning at around 7:49 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 as a minivan traveling southbound on I495, south of East 12th Street struck a truck in the middle lane. One person was transported to an area hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident. The three lanes of  I-495 southbound were closed and the southbound shoulder was opened for passing traffic. Please use caution in the area as you travel.

Sussex County, DE- The Delaware State Police Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit (S.O.A.R) is currently looking for wanted sex offenders after they failed to register as a sex offender as required by law.

Investigators have obtained a warrant for Antron T. Detectives Investigating a Home Invasion – Magnolia

Magnolia- The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred early this morning in Magnolia.

The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. this morning, Friday December 30, 2016 when two male suspects entered a residence located in the unit block of Flint Drive, Meadowbrook Acres. One of the suspects, who was armed with an unknown make and model rifle, woke a 33 year old male resident of the home and pointed the gun at him. Upon hearing the noise, a 27 year old female occupant of the home also awoke and attempted to flee the room. The suspect with the gun, however, ordered her back into the bed as he fired a single round from the gun into the floor of the home. The female victim then began to push at the gun at which time she was struck by the suspect. Both suspects then exited the home and were last seen fleeing the area in an unknown make and model white SUV. There were no injuries.

The suspect who was armed with the gun was described as a black male. He was approximately 6’02” tall, had a thin build, and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The second suspect was described as being 5’6″ tall with a heavy build.

Troopers Arrest Two In Gun Investigation – Blades

Blades- The Delaware State Police have arrested two people following an investigation into possible illegal gun sales being conducted from a Blades residence.

On Thursday, December 29, 2016, troopers assigned to the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) team, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Troop 5, conducted a search warrant at a residence located in the unit block of West 2nd Street, Blades, after information was gathered about illegal gun sales being conducted from the home. Upon the trooper’s arrival, Dina S. Hawkins, 39, was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 5.  The search resulted in the seizure of 2 handguns, 5 assault weapons, 4 shotguns, 2 hunting rifles, and 9,305 rounds of ammunition. John D. Phifer, 63, who also resides at the residence, was taken into custody after he had responded to Troop 5 on an unrelated matter.

John Phifer was arrested and charged with three counts of Giving a Firearm to a Felon and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. He was arraigned at JP Court 3 and released on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

Dina Hawkins was arrested and charged with three counts of Giving a Firearm to a Felon, thirteen counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was arraigned at JP Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $42,000.00 secured bail.

Troopers Arrest Smyrna Man Following Attempted Robbery of Gas Station

Smyrna- Delaware State Police have arrested a 25 year old Smyrna man following the attempted robbery of a Smyrna area gas station that occurred last night.

The investigation began last night, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at approximately 9:15 p.m., after a male suspect entered the Valero gas station located at 5703 DuPont Parkway, Smyrna. The suspect then approached the sales counter where he confronted a female clerk and declared that he was robbing the business. The suspect did not display a weapon or imply that he was armed. The female clerk fled to the rear of the business without providing the suspect with any money. The suspect then fled from the business in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured.

As responding troopers were at the Valero conducting their investigation, they were advised that a male suspect matching the description of the suspect who attempted to rob the business had also just attempted to rob Reba’s Liquors located at 111 Glenwood Avenue, Smyrna. The suspect, later identified as Phillip Hardin, 25, of Smyrna, was detained by the store clerk until officers from the Smyrna Police Department were able to arrive and take him into custody.

Phillip Hardin was charged by the Delaware State Police with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned at JP Court 7 and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Institution in default of $6000.00 secured bail.

Troopers Investigate Cell Phone Store Robbery – New Castle

New Castle (19720) – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the robbery of a New Castle area cellular phone store that occurred yesterday evening.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, as a male suspect entered the Metro PCS store located at 287 Christiana Road, New Castle. The suspect then approached the sales counter where he confronted a male employee of the store and ordered him to the floor. The suspect, who implied that he was armed but did not display a weapon, then proceeded to remove an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. The suspect then exited the business and fled in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 5’09”-6’01” tall, weighed approximately 190 lbs., and was last seen wearing all dark clothing, a black hat, and had a scarf covering part of his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available.

Two New Jersey Men Arrested for Robbery of Marijuana

Millsboro – The Delaware State Police have arrested a pair of New Jersey men and charged them with robbery after they beat up a Millsboro man and stole his marijuana.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday December 28, 2016 when the homeowner of a residence located in the 30000 block of Gull Point Road called 9-1-1 to report that a tenant was tied up in the garage.  Upon troopers arrival, it was discovered that the 23-year-old male victim had been assaulted by two males that initially stopped by the house and asked to rake leaves.  The two suspects, who had rakes in their hands, were informed that their service was not needed.  The victim and the two subjects began talking when one of the subjects struck him in the face with a rake, causing him to fall to the ground.  The two then drug the victim to the garage where they zip tied his hands and feet together before one of the males put a knife to his neck demanding to know where his “weed” was located.  Once the two obtained the marijuana, they fled the area in a black Mitsubishi Galant with New Jersey registration.

Information regarding the vehicle was broadcast over the radio and a trooper responding to the area spotted the vehicle and was able to perform a traffic stop on Oak Orchard Road.  Miguel R. Velasquez, 20, and Kent A. Mautes, 21, both of Edison, New Jersey, were taken into custody without incident.  A search of the vehicle yielded 301.2 grams of marijuana.  They were transported back to Troop 4 in Georgetown where they was charged with Robbery 1st, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Assault 2nd, Burglary 2nd, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Aggravated Menacing, Conspiracy 2nd, Terroristic Threatening, and Possession of Marijuana.  The were both arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $70,000.00 secured bond.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Troopers Investigate Attempted Robbery – Newark

Newark – Delaware State Police are currently investigating the attempted armed robbery of a 33 year old man as he attempted to sell iPhones in a shopping center parking lot yesterday evening.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at approximately 8:56 p.m., as a 33 year old male victim met with a man, who had agreed to purchase two iPhones from him, in the parking lot of the People’s Plaza Shopping Center, located at 400 People’s Drive, Newark. After the victim made contact with the male suspect outside of the Rugged Wearhouse store, the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The suspect then demanded the phones from the victim, however, the victim refused and proceeded to wrestle the suspect to the ground. During the struggle, the victim was able to gain possession of the suspect’s gun. The suspect then fled the area on foot without obtaining any property from the victim. There were no injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 5’06”-5’08” tall and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black hat. There is no further physical or clothing description of the suspect available.

State Police Arrest Two in Gun Investigation – Laurel

Laurel– The Delaware State Police have arrested two people after information was received about guns and stolen property inside a residence in Hollybrook Apartments.

On Tuesday December 27, 2016 around 12:04 p.m., troopers assigned to the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) team, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Hollybrook Apartments after information was gathered about illegal guns and stolen property at the apartment.  Upon the troopers arrival, Anthony L. Hood, 48, and Denise Clark, 50, both of that address, were taken into custody without incident.  The search revealed a .22 caliber rifle, .556 cal. rifle, 9mm revolver, and a BB gun, along with various rounds of ammunition and magazines.  Troopers also recovered two flat screen TVs and a sound bar that are linked to burglaries in the surrounding area.  Troopers also located .285 grams of heroin, .16 grams of crack cocaine, and .55 grams of marijuana.

Anthony Hood and Denise Clark were transported back to Troop 5 where they were both charged with five counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Conspiracy 2nd, Receiving Stolen Property, and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Hood was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana.  They were arraigned at JP2 and committed to the Delaware Department of Corrections on $28,600.00 cash (Hood) and $28,500.00 cash (Clark).

Anyone coming in contact with Anthony McDonald should use caution as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Magnolia Death Ruled Homicide, Victim Identified 

Magnolia- Delaware State Police Homicide Unit detectives continue to investigate the death of a man who was found shot inside of a car late last night in Magnolia.

The investigation began last night, Friday, March 27, 2015, at approximately 11:20 p.m., after troopers responded to the unit block of Grays Lane in the Meadowbrook Acres development, Magnolia, DE, for the report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, troopers located a male subject deceased in the driver’s seat of a 1998 Ford Escort. The male victim, later identified as Richard L. Jacobs, Jr., 44, of Dover, DE, was transported from the scene by the Office of Forensic Science where an autopsy was performed. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide with the cause of death being multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

The investigation into this incident by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing. No further details will be released at this time as to not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.

Troopers Conducting Death Investigation 

Magnolia- The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is currently conducting a death investigation after a male victim was found deceased late last night in Magnolia.

The investigation began last night, Friday, March 27, 2015, at approximately 11:20 p.m., after troopers responded to the unit block of Grays Lane in the Meadowbrook Acres development, Magnolia, DE, for the report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, troopers located a male subject located in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed from the scene by the Division of Forensic Science which will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

This investigation is in its early stages. More information will be released at a later time.
