Newark- Delaware State Police will be conducting a news conference in reference to the shooting of the Delaware State Trooper that occurred this afternoon at the Wawa located at 1605 Pulaski Highway, Newark.

Middletown – Multiple police agencies are on the scene of a shots fired complaint in the 500 block of St. Michaels Drive, Brick Mill Farm Development. This investigation is related to the incident in which a trooper was shot outside a Newark area convenience store.  A male suspect has refused orders to surrender and continues to fire rounds at police officers.

No further details are available at this time and updates regarding this incident will be sent hourly or until the situation is resolved.

Residents in the area are advised to stay inside their homes and lock their doors until notified otherwise.

Newark – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shooting of a trooper in the parking lot of the Wawa located at 1605 Pulaski Highway.

The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be disseminated at a later time.

Wyoming, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that occurred in the beginning of April resulting in a fatality.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. Monday April 2, 2017 as Robert Machalski Jr., 51 of Hartly, was operating a 2006 Dodge Caravan westbound on Westville Road, just east of Almshouse Road approaching a right curve.  The Caravan failed to negotiate the curve, traveling off the south side of the roadway where it struck a ditch and overturned before coming to a stop.

Robert Machalski was properly restrained and transported to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition until he died on Tuesday April 18, 2017.

Speed may have been a factor in this case although there is no evidence of alcohol or drugs being contributing factors.

Delaware – On Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Delaware State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 13th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Last October, Americans turned in 366 tons (over 730,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at almost 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,000 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 12 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 7.1 million pounds—more than 3,500 tons—of pills.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
