Troopers Investigate Robbery of Bear Area 7-11

Bear – Delaware State Police are currently investigating the robbery of a Bear area 7-11 that occurred early this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 1:11 a.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017, as a male suspect entered the 7-11 located at 1700 Pulaski Highway.  The suspect confronted a male employee at the sales counter and demanded money and cigarettes while displaying an unknown type handgun.  The employee complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before the suspect exited the business and fled southeast through the parking lot towards Porter Road. The clerk was uninjured in the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’08”-5’10” tall, last seen wearing all dark clothing (No further physical or clothing description available).  An unknown type handgun was displayed.

No video surveillance footage is available at this time.

Delaware State Police Troop 4 to Host Community Café

Selbyville – Delaware State Police Troop 4 will be holding a Community Café on Friday, May 26, 2017. The event will held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Route 54 McDonalds located at 36218 Lighthouse Rd, Selbyville. The Community Café will have Troop 4 Administration and the Community Outreach Officer in attendance to meet and interact with members of the public. This Community Café is often referred to as “Coffee with a Cop” in other police agencies and is being held in an effort to build a stronger relationship between the Delaware State Police and the communities that we so proudly serve.

45th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race

Delmar, DE– The 45th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race will be held at the Delaware International Speedway on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.  Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing action beginning at 6:30 p.m. Rain date is scheduled for Wednesday June 21, 2017.  The Delaware International Speedway is located at 37854 Sussex Highway (US 13 southbound), just north of the Delaware/Maryland line.

This year’s event will feature competitors throughout the Northeast Dirt Motorsports areas.  Drivers will compete for prize money over $35,000.  Big Block-Small Block Modifieds, Super Late Models, RUSH Crate Late Models, Crate 602 Sportsman, Modified Lites, Little Lincoln and Super Trucks will compete in over 100 laps of featured racing in their respective classes.

Gates open early at 4:00 p.m. with several activities and displays on hand, to include the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit and, in their first appearance at the race, the Delaware State Police Mounted Patrol Unit.

In addition, Camp Barnes will recognize Mr. Snookie Vent at intermission for his many years of dedication to Delaware racing.  Intermission will also include a Monster Truck show, presented by “The Metal Shop” in Delmar, DE. “Saigon Shaker” will be on hand to entertain all fans.

Tickets to the event are available at the speedway’s ticket booth the night of the event. Spectator’s tickets are $20 and pit tickets are $35.  Children under 10 accompanied by parent or guardian are admitted free to spectator seating.

Camp Barnes originally opened in 1948 and was named in recognition of Colonel Herbert Barnes. The camp is located next to the Assawoman Wildlife Area on Miller Creek near Bethany Beach. For six weeks in the summer, each week, 70 children ages 10-13 attend Camp Barnes with no financial burden on their parents.  They participate in outdoor activities and are taught leadership and teamwork skills.

Former Indian River Student Arrested for Shooting Gun on School Property

Dagsboro – A State Police School Resource Officer has arrested a former Indian River student after it was determined he had fired a gun off on school property.

The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday May 2, 2017 when Jamal J. Burrell, 19 of Dagsboro, was observed on the school property of Indian River High School, located at 29772 Armory Road.  He entered into a another student’s vehicle and placed a black and white bandana across his face.  As they were leaving the school grounds, he leaned out of the passenger’s side window and began firing three to four rounds from an unknown type firearm into the air.  On Wednesday May 3, 2017, the Indian River School District School Resource Officer (SRO) responded to Jamal Burrell’s residence and took him into custody without incident.  It was discovered during the investigation that the weapon used in the incident was a BB gun.

Jamal Burrell was transported back to Troop 4 in Georgetown where he was charged with Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone (Misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (Misdemeanor).  He was arraigned at JP2 and given a $300.00 unsecured bond along with a no contact order with all Indian River School property.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance in Locating Wanted Subject

Lewes – State Police are requesting assistance in locating Stanley Mumford, 32 of Millsboro, who is wanted for Strangulation, Assault 3rd, and Theft.  He is also wanted out of Sussex County Family Court on a capias.

Mumford is wanted in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on Thursday May 11, 2017 around 12:30 a.m. in the 34000 block of Mulberry Lane, when he struck a 31-year-old female victim in the face with a closed fist, choked her, and then stole her cell phone.

Detectives Make Arrest in Frankford Burglary Spree

Frankford – State Police Criminal Investigators at Troop 4 have made an arrest into a series of residential burglaries in the Frankford area.

Detectives recently arrested Justin R. Holderbaum, 34 of Frankford, in connection with multiple residential burglaries committed in the Plantation Park Development that occurred between October of 2016 to April of 2017.  These burglaries occurred at various hours of the day to residences that were unoccupied at the time.  Once breaking into the houses or outbuildings by prying the doors open, Holderbaum would remove various electronic devices, currency, jewelry, lawn equipment, and other power tools, and then pawn the items at area pawn shops.

Justin Holderbaum was charged with seven counts of Burglary, five counts of Possession of Burglar Tools, seven counts of Theft, five counts of Falsifying Business Documents, six counts of Selling Stolen Property, and six counts of Criminal Mischief.  He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $39,150.00 secured bond.

Trooper Seek Public's Assistance in Locating Wanted Suspect

Delaware – State Troopers have identified the suspect sought in a late March shoplifting spree who stole over $2,300.00 worth of cologne as Samlie Irvin Jr., 50 of Milford.  He is currently wanted on two counts of Possession of Shoplifting Tools, Criminal Mischief, Shoplifting, and Attempted Shoplifting.  Irvin is also wanted out of Kent County Superior Court on a capias.

The incidents occurred at the below listed locations when Irvin entered the stores and proceeded to remove assorted cologne after defeating the locked display cases with an unknown type of tool. Samlie Irvin then exited the businesses without rendering payment.

  • Walgreens, 3301 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington – occurred Saturday March 25, 2017 at approximately 9:28 p.m.
  • Walgreens, 4201 Concord Pike, Wilmington –occurred Monday March 27, 2017 at approximately 12:23 p.m.
  • Walgreens, 5506 South DuPont Highway, Dover – occurred Wednesday March 29, 2017 at approximately 6:52 p.m.
  • Walgreens, 52 West Birdie Lane, Magnolia – occurred Wednesday March 29, 2017 at approximately 5:40 p.m. (This was an attempted Shoplifting as the suspect was unable to enter the display case or remove any items.)

Laurel Man Arrested After Breaking Into House

Laurel – The Delaware State Police, with the assistance of Laurel Police Department, have arrested a Laurel man immediately after he broke into a house and stole a pair of ladies undergarments.

Around 4:55 a.m. Friday May 19, 2017, a 9-1-1 call was received from a resident in the 30000 block of Penn Street advising that someone had just broken into their house.  The investigation revealed the two female victims, that reside in the residence, heard an unusual noise inside the house and barricaded themselves in a bedroom.  The suspect attempted to gain entry into the bedroom, but the two females escaped out of the window and ran to a nearby neighbor where they called 9-1-1.  Responding troopers and officers from Laurel PD were initially given a description of a white male wearing a white T-shirt and white hat, but that information changed upon further investigation to a black male after he was observed by witnesses leaving the area and acting suspiciously.  Officers from Laurel PD were able to located the black male, who was later identified as Tyrone M. Jenkins-Heath Jr., 21 of Laurel, walking through a neighboring yard and found him in possession of women’s underwear, which were positively identified by one of the victim’s as being hers.

Tyrone Jenkins-Heath was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with Burglary 2nd, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief, and two counts of Attempted Rape 2nd after he informed investigators that his intentions were to have one or both of the victims to perform unlawful sexual acts on him.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $396,300.00 cash bond.

State Police Investigating Robbery in Paris Villa Development

Magnolia – The Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery of a woman who was walking in the Paris Villa development early Thursday evening.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. Thursday May 18, 2017 as a 57-year-old female was walking in the area of Plum Drive and Apple Run with her dog when she was approached by three male subjects.  One of the suspects ripped open a plastic bag that the victim was carrying containing her money.  Once the undisclosed amount of money fell to the ground, the suspects picked it up and fled northbound on Apple Run.  The victim and her dog were uninjured.

The three suspects were described two black males and one white male, 5’08-5’10” tall, wearing all dark colored clothing (No further physical or clothing description available). The three were not reported to be armed with any type of weapons during the incident.
