Milford- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that has claimed the life of a Milford man which occurred early this week.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 11:24 p.m., as Cody S. Hopkins, 24, was operating a 2006 Dodge Ram and was traveling in a northbound direction on Canterbury Road just south of Blue Jay Lane. As Hopkins attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway, his vehicle’s right side tires traveled off of the east edge of the roadway. The Ram then re-entered the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction before skidding off of the roadway. It then traveled in a northeasterly direction before striking a group of trees and overturning, ejecting Hopkins onto Blue Jay Lane. The Dodge continued traveling in a northeasterly direction until it came to rest on its right hand side on Blue Jay Lane.

Cody Hopkins, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene and transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital. He was later transported to he Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition before being declared dead on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Speed and alcohol use appear to be factors in this crash which remains under investigation at this time.

Magnolia – Troopers have arrested two and are seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a third in an overnight investigation into a Magnolia area shooting complaint.

The incident occurred around 12:35 a.m. Thursday June 22, 2017, when a 9-1-1 call was received from a female at a residence in the 400 block of Cherry Drive East, Paris Villa Development stating her ex-boyfriend had just driven by and shot at the house.  None of the seven people, including two other adults and four children, were injured when the gunfire took place, although the house was struck at least three times.

The Cadillac that was used in the incident was found a short time later, abandoned on Lochmeath Way.  A Camden Police Officer observed three subjects walking along the road not far from the car and when he attempted to make contact with the trio, one of the suspects, later identified as Marc A. Romano, 27 with a last known address in Newark, fled on foot.  Juan A. Matos, 19, and Jason D. Gilbert, 19, both of Philadelphia, were taken into custody without incident.

Gilbert and Matos were both transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where they were both arrested for seven counts of Reckless Endangering 1st and Conspiracy 2nd.  Matos was additionally charged with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.  They were arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $28,000.00 cash (Matos) and $8,000.00 secured (Gilbert) bonds.

Marc Romano, who is the female’s ex-boyfriend and believed to be the shooter, is wanted for Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, seven counts of Reckless Endangering 1st, and Conspiracy 2nd.

Lincoln – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shots fired complaint that occurred last night near Lincoln.

Troopers responded to the area of Crabapple Lane around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday June 21, 2017 after 9-1-1 calls were received about multiple gunshots heard in the area.  Upon the troopers arrival, a radio broadcast described a fleeing vehicle as a white passenger car, which was observed by a trooper in the area of Pine Road just east of Greentop Road.  The trooper was able to make a U-turn as the vehicle passed by and upon catching up to the car, it was left abandoned in roadway with the passengers taking off on foot.  Information regarding the identification of one of the occupants was located inside the white Toyota Avalon.  Within a half hour, that suspect, who was identified as Turrell D. Bowe, 25 of Milford, was taken into custody after he was located in the area.

The investigation revealed a female victim had driven to a residence in the 19000 block of Crabapple Lane sometime around 9:00 p.m. with a friend.  The female stayed in the car while the friend entered into the house.  The female heard gunshots and saw three or four subjects approach her car.  One of the suspects, armed with an unknown type handgun and a mask covering his face, opened her door and pulled her from the car and removed her cell phone before they fled the area.  The female victim was uninjured and the friend she arrived with had driven away in her car.

Turrell Bowe was transported back to Troop 4 in Georgetown where he was charged with Robbery 1st, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, Conspiracy 2nd, and Resisting Arrest.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $35,000.00 cash bond.

The other two or three suspects were only described as males wearing dark colored clothing with masks covering their faces (no further clothing or physical description available).  Possibly armed with unknown type handguns.

No victims of the gunfire were located.

Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Wilmington area Dunkin Donuts that occurred early this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at approximately 4:15 a.m., as two male suspects entered the Dunkin Donuts located at 2706 Concord Pike, Wilmington. The first suspect, who was armed with an unknown make and model handgun, confronted an employee of the business and demanded money from the cash register. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him. As the suspects then exited the business the armed suspect discharged his weapon and fled in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.

The suspects were described as male approximately 20-30 years of age with one suspect armed. There is no further physical or clothing description available. No video surveillance photos are available at this time.

Milford – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Milford man after he stabbed two dogs inside his house.

Troopers were called to a residence in the 7000 block of North Union Church Road yesterday, June 21, 2017 around 10:30 a.m., for a domestic issue occurring between Denzel L. Brown, 27, and his 34-year-old girlfriend.  After troopers settled the verbal dispute between the two, the female secured her two adult pit bulls inside separate crates in the house and then left the residence.  Denzel, who also resides at the house, was waiting outside for a ride, but went inside to retrieve some personal belongings.  He suddenly emerged stating he had stabbed two pit bull dogs with a knife that belonged to his girlfriend after claiming the dogs were fighting.

Delaware Animal Control Officers were contacted and responded to the scene to take control of the two deceased dogs.

Denzel Brown was charged by troopers with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Cruelty to Animals, and Criminal Mischief.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $16,100.00 cash bond.

Lewes – A Rehoboth man was arrested early this morning after a traffic stop by Lewes Police Department uncovers a theft of the car.

Around 12:17 a.m. this morning, Wednesday June 21, 2017, officers with Lewes Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 just south of Atlantic Avenue on Kings Highway.  The traffic stop was performed after a computer inquiry into the registration revealed the tag displayed was not on the correct vehicle.  Contact was made with the registered owner who advised the vehicle should be parked at Below Book Auto Sales, located at 1608 Savannah Road, for repairs.  At that point, James F. Mulholland, 19, and a 16-year-old passenger were placed in custody until troopers could arrive to continue the investigation.  A search of the vehicle located two hand-held Motorola radios, 13 Fuelman gas cards, and two sets of keys which were later identified to belong to the Cape Henlopen High School.

Through the investigation it was learned that James Mulholland had gone to Below Book Auto Sales around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday June 18, 2017 and located the Chrysler 300 parked in the parking lot with the keys still inside.  He then drove the vehicle to the Weis Markets across the street where he picked up the 16-year-old friend.  Later that day, the two were at Cape Henlopen High School playing basketball when they saw a custodian at the maintenance building.  The two began talking to the custodian and without him knowing, James removed two radios and two sets of keys.  That same evening, James returned to the school alone and entered the parking lot where the busses are parked.  He then entered numerous busses and removed 13 Fuelman gas cards.

James Mulholland was charged by state police with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Theft Under $1500, and two counts of Criminal Trespass.  He was arraigned at JP3 and released on $3,000.00 unsecured bond.  Lewes PD also charge Mulholland with Receive or Transfer a Stolen Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, and Fictitious Registration.  These charges levied a $2,000.00 unsecured bond.

The 16-year-old was not charged with any crimes.

Bridgeville – Over the last couple of days, the Delaware State Police has seen an increase in thefts from vehicles at a dozen locations in the Clearbrooke and Lake Shore developments south of Bridgeville.

State Police learned that an undetermined number of suspects entered approximately a dozen different vehicles stealing items and also rummaging through unsecured vehicles. The suspects stole items ranging from purses to electronic devices, and U.S. currency.  In most of these cases the vehicles were parked in the victim’s driveways and were unsecured.

The Delaware State Police urge people to utilize the following tips:

• Lock your car doors and roll up you windows
• Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
• Leave outdoor lights on in the driveway or have security lighting installed
• Report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately

Dover – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Smyrna man for driving a stolen vehicle.

The incident occurred around 10:07 p.m. Tuesday June 20, 2017 when a trooper on patrol in the area of South DuPont Highway (US13) and South Governors Avenue observed a 2013 Toyota Prius traveling southbound on US13.  A computer inquiry into the registration revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen on May 22, 2017 from a residence out of New Castle County.  The trooper activated the emergency equipment on the patrol vehicle in order to conduct a traffic stop, when the vehicle accelerated and continued traveling southbound on US13.  The vehicle failed to stop at a red light and upon entering into the intersection at US13 and Thomas Harmon Drive (entrance to Camden Walmart) was struck on the passenger’s side by a 2016 Infiniti QX70 being operated by a 40-year-old Dover man.  Kyree A. Custis, 26, was taken into custody without further incident once the vehicle came to a stop in the grassy shoulder south of the intersection.

The 40-year-old Infiniti operator was uninjured in the collision.

Kyree Custis and a 31-year-old male passenger were transported by EMS to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.  Kyree Custis was then taken to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Disregarding a Police Officer Signal, Aggressive Driving, Reckless Driving, Driving without a Valid License, and other traffic related offenses.  He was arraigned at JP7 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $1,304.00 secured bond for those charges as well $25,000.00 cash for a Violation of Probation.

The passenger was not charged with any crimes.

New Castle- The Delaware State Police is currently investigating the attempted armed robbery of a New Castle area 7-11 convenience store which occurred early this morning.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 4:03 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017, as a male suspect dressed in dark clothing approached the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 284 Christiana Road, New Castle. The clerk had previously secured the front door as she cleaned the store. The suspect walked around the outside of the store before attempting to gain entry at the front door. The suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with his face partially covered. The suspect then implied he had a weapon, however no weapon was displayed. After the suspect was refused entry he fled the area toward the Georgetown Manor Apartments. There were no injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 5’08”-5’10” tall, with a stocky build between 180-200 pounds, wearing dark clothing.
