Wilmington- Delaware State Police Financial Crimes Unit detectives have arrested a Newark woman after she fraudulently opened a credit card account and proceeded to use it to make numerous charges for her personal use.

The investigation began in March of 2017, after troopers were contacted by the president of the Dickinson Organ Theater Society of Wilmington, who advised them that upon checking the organization’s bank account, he noticed that someone had opened a credit card account in the organization’s name without his knowledge and had proceeded to charge over $62,000.00 worth of goods and services on the card. It was further learned that he, as well as the organization’s treasurer, Patricia N. Nicholas-Lundy, were listed as the authorized users on the account.

Through further investigation, detectives were able to determine that Nicholas-Lundy, had opened the credit card without the organization’s knowledge and had proceeded to make multiple charges on it, which included paying for her wedding. Nicholas-Lundy would then use the organization’s checking account to make the payments on the card.

On Friday, August 4, 2017, Patricia Nicholas-Lundy, 42, turned herself in to detectives at Troop 2. She was then arrested and charged with Felony Theft and Unlawful Use of a Payment Card. Nicholas-Lundy was arraigned at JP Court 2 and released on $20,000.00 unsecured bail.

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a tractor-trailer driver which occurred yesterday evening in Newark.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident happened on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at approximately 6:52 p.m., as a 31-year-old male was seated inside of his tractor-trailer, which was parked in the southern parking lot of the Delaware House Service Area, located at 530 JFK Memorial Highway. It was then that the driver was approached by a male suspect who brandished an unknown make and model handgun and pointed it at him. The suspect then demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone. The victim turned his wallet over to the suspect, however, refused to surrender his phone. The suspect then fled on foot and was last seen walking through the parking lot in an eastbound direction. The victim was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male 40-45 years of age. He was 5’08”-5’09” tall, weighed 170-180 lbs., and was last seen wearing dark-colored jean shorts, a green Polo type shirt, black hat, and black shoes. There is no further physical or clothing description available.

Georgetown – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving a DART bus which occurred yesterday evening in Georgetown.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 7:27 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017, as Selena Cannon, 51, of Bridgeville, was operating a 2009 DART bus and was stopped in the left hand turn lane from southbound S. Bedford Street into the DART bus yard, just north of US113 (DuPont Boulevard). As Cannon proceeded to cross the northbound lanes of S. Bedford Street, she pulled directly into the path a 2000 BMW motorcycle, which was being operated by a 68-year-old Georgetown man, and which was traveling northbound on S. Bedford Street. The front of the motorcycle then struck the front of the DART bus, causing the operator of the motorcycle, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet, to be ejected. He then struck the windshield of the bus.

The male operator of the motorcycle was removed from the scene by Delaware State Police helicopter (Trooper 2) and flown to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with serious injuries.

Selena Cannon, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, and who was the sole occupant of the bus, was not injured. She was cited by troopers with Failure to Yield the Right of Way on a Left Hand Turn.

Delmar – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a two vehicle crash which claimed the life of an unidentified man yesterday evening east of Delmar.

The investigation at this point has determined that the crash occurred on Friday, August 4, 2017, at approximately 6:47 p.m., as Mario Martinez-Jimenez, 32, of Mexico, was operating a 2002 Ford Expedition and was traveling in a southbound direction on CR66 (Pepperbox Road), approaching a posted stop sign at the intersection of SR30 (Whitesville Road), approximately 3 miles east of Delmar. As the Expedition reached the intersection, Martinez-Jimenez failed to stop at the stop sign. As a result, the left hand side of the Expedition was struck by the front of a 2011 Ford F-150, which was being operated by a 75-year-old Laurel man, and which was traveling in a westbound direction on Whitesville Road. The Ford Expedition was then forced off of the southwest corner of the intersection as it rotated in a clockwise direction and overturned onto its right hand side. The Ford F-150 also rotated in a counter-clockwise direction and exited the southwest corner of the intersection where it came to rest.

An unidentified rear seat male passenger in the Ford Expedition, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name will be released after positive identification is made and his next of kin is notified.

Mario Martinez-Jimenez, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene by ambulance and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he admitted with serious injuries. Impairment on the part of Martinez-Jimenez is being considered as a factor in the crash.

The 75-year-old operator of the Ford F-150, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene by ambulance and transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

A 28-year-old male passenger in the Ford Expedition was transported by ambulance to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

A 44-year-old male passenger in the Expedition was removed from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) and flown to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was subsequently flown to the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center where he was treated for his serious injuries.

A 34-year-old male passenger, as well as a 21-year-old male passenger in the Expedition, were both transported by ambulance to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they were admitted for their injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Charges are expected.

The intersection of Pepperbox Road and Whitesville Road was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Georgetown- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 57-year-old Seaford man and the 76-year-old Georgetown woman who were killed in the fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred yesterday afternoon west of Georgetown as George C. Hassett and Katherine E. Chick.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.

Delmar – The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a serious crash involving two vehicles in Delmar.

The incident occurred around 6:48 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 on Whitesville Road at Pepperbox Road. Multiple persons have been injured as a result of the crash, however, the extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

Whitesville Road at Pepperbox Road is currently closed in all directions.  Commuters should expect delays in the area and find alternate routes of travel.

Georgetown- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a two vehicle crash that has claimed the lives of two people.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 1:12 p.m. today, Friday, August 4, 2017, as a 57-year-old Seaford, DE man was operating a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada and was traveling in a westbound direction on US 9 (County Seat Highway) just east of the intersection of CR 444 (Tyndall Road). For an unknown reason, the Oldsmobile crossed the double yellow line and entered the eastbound lane of US 9 directly into the path of a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron, which was being operated by a 76-year-old Georgetown woman. The operator of the LeBaron swerved her vehicle slightly to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision, however, the vehicles collided almost head-on in the eastbound lane. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

Both vehicle operators, who were properly restrained at the time of the crash, were declared dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending the notification of their next of kin. A 45-year-old female passenger in the Oldsmobile, who was also properly restrained, was removed from the scene and transported by ambulance to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. It is unknown if impairment on the part of either party was a factor in this crash.

The intersection of US 9 and Tyndall Road was closed for approximately 4 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Lincoln – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident in which shots were fired at a residence on Hidden Branch Lane.

The incident occurred around 3:50 a.m. Friday August 4, 2017 as troopers responded to the 9000 block of Hidden Branch Lane for a report of shots fired in the area.  When troopers arrived, they were contacted by the homeowner who advised there were multiple gunshots fired at their house.  Shell casings were located on the roadway and the victim’s vehicle also sustained damage from the bullets.

At this time there are no suspects.
