Rehoboth Beach – The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle and a scooter on Coastal Highway (SR1) northbound at Robinsons Drive.

The incident occurred around 10:56 a.m. Saturday July 29, 2017.  The operator of the scooter has been transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

SR1 northbound has the right lane and shoulder closed at Robinsons Drive as well as the SR1 southbound turn lane onto Robinsons Drive.  Commuters should expect delays in the area.

Further details will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Little Heaven– The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a gas station that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m., Friday July 28, 2017, as a male subject entered the Shore Stop, located at 7865 Bay Road.  The suspect approached a store employee at the counter and asked to purchase some cigarettes.  The suspect then provided the clerk with money for the cigarettes, but once the employee opened the register he implied he had a weapon and demanded all the money from the till.  The attendant complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspect then exited the store and fled in a southerly direction.  The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as black male, 5’09”-5’10” tall, with a beard, wearing a black sweatshirt (No further physical or clothing description).  Unknown if he was armed with any weapon.

Wilmington (19803)- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a Wilmington area McDonald’s Restaurant that occurred late Friday evening.

The investigation thus far has determined that the incident happened on Friday July 28, 2017 at approximately 10:30 p.m., as a male suspect entered the McDonald’s Restaurant located at 2507 Concord Pike.  The suspect then approached a female employee who was standing behind the sales counter and presented her with a demand note for cash.  The employee provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register before he exited the business and was last seen fleeing in an eastbound direction on Prospect Drive.  There were no injuries and no weapon was displayed.

The suspect was described as a white male. He was 18-20 years of age, 5’10”-5’11” tall, weighed 130-145 lbs., with blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark colored sweatpants and had a mask partially covering his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available at this time and no video surveillance photos are available to be released at this time.

Just before the roaring 1920’s, local residents in Delaware began engaging in the idea of creating a fair for the State’s residents.  Those early discussions blossomed into larger group meetings which ultimately led to the Kent and Sussex Fair in 1920.  The first state fair opened on July 27^th, 1920 and has transformed into what we know today as the Delaware State Fair. The State Fair, since its inception, has served as the perfect meeting spot each year for families and friends to come together to enjoy the local agriculture and experience good quality entertainment.

As the State Fair began to expand in those early years the ever growing popularity of the automobile also ‘gave birth’ to the Delaware State Highway Police which, just a few short years later, became the Delaware State Police.  It didn’t take long for the organizers of the State Fair and the leadership of the Delaware State Police to realize that a presence of uniformed State Troopers at the State Fair simply made sense on many levels.  As a result, uniformed members of the Delaware State Police have provided site security to the visitors of the State Fair since the early days of the Fair, dating as far back as 1937.

In those early years, a handful of State Troopers, some employing K-9 partners, were assigned to the fairgrounds during portions of the State Fair. Over the years the world has changed and The Delaware State Police’s role at the Fair has changed with it. That change, is evident in the growth of the physical size of the fairgrounds, the increase in the volume of attendees and the many advances in technology surrounding all aspects of fair which has resulted in many adaptations to both the State Fair operations and the State Police response to those changes.

Present day, several dozen State Troopers, building upon the legacy of generations of Troopers that came before them, provide around the clock coverage of the State Fair for the entire duration of the Fair. The State Police’s function at the Fair is very dynamic and multifaceted. Troopers from across the state come together from different specialized units to proudly serve each guest at the fair through a variety of approaches to include the long-standing deployment of State Police K-9’s to provide physical security, the utilization of the State Police Mounted Unit to provide enhanced patrol coverage of the fairgrounds, the use of a state of the art Command Post operation to enhance communications, the utilization of State Police Explorers to assist lost children and the employment of a variety of plain clothes Troopers to include members of the Governor’s Task Force and the Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit to further enhance the operations of all uniformed personnel.

Although, the many advancements in policing and the variety of specialty services provided today, the longstanding backbone of the State Police Fair Detail has been the proud women and men in uniform that walk and ride the fairgrounds around the clock creating a safe environment for all visitors and employees of the Delaware State Fair.  These Troopers, whose permanent assignments range from Troop #1 Penny Hill to Troop #5 Bridgeville, provide coverage on the fairgrounds every July and tirelessly work to ensure that the visitors of the State Fair can do so both safely and securely.

In addition to providing security at the Fair, the assigned Troopers also welcome the opportunity to engage in meaningful encounters with the numerous State Fair employees, vendors and visitors to the fairgrounds.  The State Police’s ability to conduct informal outreach to citizens during the Fair provides invaluable opportunities to enhance trust throughout the community and foster strong relationships with the people we serve.

So as the Delaware State Police continually strive to provide a safe and enjoyable environment each year for the children, women and men that visit the exciting and fun venue of the State Fair’s 300 acres of rides, vendors and exhibitions, our hope is that those attendees realize that we are there for their protection and to provide them with compassionate and professional police services.  Through our dedicated service, and help from first responders and private security personnel at the Fair, we hope to secure an environment where Delaware families can come together to create lifelong memories for many years to come!

Lewes– A Milford woman has been charged with felony theft after an investigation revealed she stole more than $27,000.00 from a local booster club.

Stephanie L. Trimmer, 42 of Milford, was arrested and charged with one count of Theft over $1,500.00 (Felony) on Thursday July 27, 2017 after detectives were alerted to money being missing.  On June 1, 2017, officials with the Cape Henlopen School District informed detectives that the boys high school lacrosse boosters account had a negative balance and should have contained several thousands of dollars.  Stephanie Trimmer, who was the President of the booster club, was the only person since 2016 to have full access to this account.

Through the investigation, it was determined that starting around February of 2016, Trimmer would respond to various banks throughout eastern Sussex County and write checks out to herself for cash and fail to turn in receipts to the treasurer.  She continued to do this up until March of 2017 at which time she had depleted the account for approximately $27, 995.00.

Stephanie Trimmer was arraigned at JP2 and released on $1,000.00 unsecured bond.

Newark- Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives have arrested two men and charged them in connection with a series of armed robberies which they had committed beginning in April.

The investigation began on April 22, 2017, after troopers responded to the robbery of the Metro PCS located at 2907 Concord Pike, Wilmington. In the robbery a male suspect entered the business and demanded money and cell phones from a store employee. After the employee complied with the suspect’s demands, he exited the store and fled in an unknown direction.

On May 6, 2017, troopers responded to the armed robbery of the Metro PCS located at 107 Maryland Avenue, Wilmington. They also responded to the armed robbery of the 7-11 located at 1700 Pulaski Highway, Bear, on May 21, 2017. In both incidents, a male suspect matching the description of the suspect who committed the April 22 robbery of the Metro PCS, entered the targeted business and displayed a handgun. He then demanded and received property consisting of cash, cigarettes, and cell phones, before fleeing from the stores.

During the investigation into the three robberies, detectives were able to review surveillance footage as well as examine physical evidence which enabled them to develop Courtney D. Jones, 31, of Newark, and Anwar I. Hackett, 28, of Wilmington, as suspects. A search warrant was then executed at the residence of Courtney Jones at which time evidence linking him to the robberies was located. It was later determined that Courtney Jones drove Anwar Hackett to each robbery and would then wait in the vehicle as Hackett committed the robberies.

On Tuesday July 25, 2017, troopers took Courtney Jones into custody without incident. He was subsequently charged by detectives with 3 counts of Robbery 1st Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, 2 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree, Conspiracy 1st degree, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $161,000.00 cash bail.

Anwar Hackett was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday, July 26, at a residence located on French Street, Wilmington. He was transported to Troop 2 where he was subsequently charged by Robbery Unit detectives with 3 counts of Robbery 1st degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, Conspiracy 1st Degree, 2 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. He was also arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $125,000.00 cash bail.

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit continues their investigation into a missing Wilmington man after the body of a male subject was located this afternoon.

The discovery of the body occurred this afternoon. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at approximately 4:00 p.m. as subjects searching for Miguel Angel Del Valle, observed an object floating in the water in the area of the Delaware Northern Greenway Trail near N. Park Drive. Officers from the DNREC Natural Resources Police; State Parks Enforcement were then contacted and responded to the scene. They then located and pulled a male body from the water. The body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed to determine the identity of the male subject as well as the cause and manner of death.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Wilmington – The Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit has identified the 20-year-old Wilmington man who was reported missing after jumping into the Brandywine Creek on Monday, July 24, 2017, as Miguel Angel Del Valle.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing as members of the Delaware State Police Scuba Team, Talleyville Fire Company, and officers from the DNREC Natural Resources Police; State Parks Enforcement, continue to search the creek and surrounding area for Del Valle.

Rehoboth Beach – State Troopers have arrested a 48-year-old Rehoboth man after he crashed his moped while son was sitting on his lap.

Anthony F. Taglienti was taken into custody by troopers yesterday, Tuesday July 25, 2017 after responding to a report of a traffic crash around 6:30 p.m. in the area of the 19000 block of Golden Avenue, Sea Air Mobile Home Park.  The investigation revealed Taglienti was operating a 2012 Puma moped with his 2-year-old son on his lap in the park when he lost control causing both of them to fall to the ground.

The 2-year-old suffered several abrasions and was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated for the non-life-threatening injuries.

Anthony Taglienti was also taken to Beebe by EMS where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.  Upon transporting Taglienti back to Troop 7 in Lewes, a DUI investigation ensued and he was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (four previous offenses: 01/26/1998, 08/01/2006, 08/06/2006 and 06/18/2014), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Vehicular Assault 3rd, and Driving While Suspended or Revoked.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $17,200.00 cash bond.
