Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Greenwood man after a traffic stop revealed methamphetamine in the car.

On Saturday November 18, 2017 around 10:00 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of Sussex Highway (US13) and Newton Road when a 2004 Jeep Cherokee was observed with an inoperable front headlight and rear tail light.  A traffic stop was conducted on the SUV and contact was made with the operator and three passengers.  A search was subsequently conducted on the vehicle which revealed .2 grams of methamphetamine as well as equipment and component mixtures of the manufacturing stages of Meth along with key ingredients in making the drug.

A passenger seated in the rear of the vehicle where the drugs were located was identified as  Jody L. Souva, 35 of Greenwood.  He was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with Operating a Clandestine Laboratory, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Meth), Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was arraigned at JP3 and released on $8,000.00 unsecured bond.

The operator of the vehicle was cited for the inoperable headlight and tail light.  The other two passengers were not charged.

Detectives assigned to the Delaware State Police Sussex County Drug Unit, with the assistance of DNREC, responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. No evacuations were ordered as it was determined that there was no immediate hazard to nearby residents.  The right lane of US13 southbound was closed for approximately one hour.

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious pedestrian crash that occurred on US13 yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 5:28 p.m. Friday November 17, 2017 in the area of South DuPont Parkway (US13) southbound and Old State Road when a 35-year-old male was attempting to cross US13 from west to east.  A 2006 Ford Explorer being operated by a 58-year-old male was southbound on US13 in the left lane and was unable to see the pedestrian and struck him with the front of the vehicle.  The Explorer was able to come to a controlled stop after the collision.

The 35-year-old male pedestrian from the New Castle area was wearing dark-colored clothing and not carrying a flashlight, was treated on the scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition.

The 58-year-old male operator of the Explorer, from the New Castle area, was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash.

Traffic on the southbound lanes of US13 were impacted for two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

“Troopers remind pedestrians to use caution and safety when walking on or near roadways. If you must cross a roadway utilize appropriate cross walks and make sure to look left, then right, then left again before proceeding.  When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light-colored clothing and reflective materials.  Pedestrians that are walking at night must carry a flashlight for added safety.”

Tips for pedestrians:

• Wear reflective clothing, a blinking light or use your cell phone’s flashlight.
• Use a cross walk.
• Be focused. Be aware of your surroundings and not distracted with your cell phone.
• Walk on the sidewalk when available, not the shoulder. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
• Never assume a driver sees you. Make eye contact with drivers as they approach you to make sure you are seen.
• Never walk under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Tips for drivers:

•  Look out for pedestrians everywhere, at all times. Safety is a shared responsibility.
• Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or in bad weather.
• Slow down and be prepared to stop when turning or otherwise entering a cross walk.
• Yield to pedestrians in cross walks. Never pass vehicles stopped at a cross walk. There may be people crossing that you can’t see.
• Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street.
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Wilmington (19803) – Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man for his role in an armed robbery, that took place during a drug deal, which occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in the parking lot of the Concord Mall located at 4737 Concord Pike, Wilmington.

The investigation has determined that while inside the Concord Mall, a 22 year old New Castle man, agreed to purchase marijuana from a subject later identified as Riquan Mack, 18, of Wilmington. Both subjects then re-located to the rear parking lot of the mall to complete the transaction. Once outside Mack demanded money from the victim while lifting his shirt, which revealed a black handgun tucked in his waistband. The victim turned over an undisclosed amount of money to Mack who then fled on foot. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Through various investigative leads and measures, Troopers were able to positively identify Mack as the subject involved in the robbery. On Thursday, November 16, 2017, Troopers located Mack in a vehicle parked in the lot of Brandywine High School, at which time he was taken into custody without incident.

Mack was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2, where he was arrested and charged with one count of Robbery 1^st Degree. He was then arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2, and released on $20,000.00 unsecured bond.

Millsboro–The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred in the River winds Development last evening.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 when troopers responded to the 27000 block of Devon Drive for a reported Home Invasion.  The investigation revealed that an unknown subject forced his way into the residence and once inside he immediately confronted a 32-year-old female demanding money from her.  During the confrontation the subject lunged at the female and attempted to grab her around the neck with his hands. The female was able to escape from the subject and ran towards a rear bedroom to notify her husband and five children.  Her 32-year-old husband immediately confronted the subject in the hallway and a scuffle ensued.  The subject smacked and punched the male victim on the left side of his face.  There was another 21-year-old male victim inside of the residence during the altercation in which he tried to intervene and all three began fighting.   During the scuffle the suspect was able to obtain the 32-year-old and 21-year-old victim’s cell phones in which he took prior to exiting the front door.  The suspect took off running towards Oak Orchard Road in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as a dark complexioned black male, approximately 35 to 40 years old, 5’10″ to 6’00″ tall, heavy set, and wearing dark colored clothing.

The three adult victims as well as the five children ranging from 9 years old to less than a year old that were inside the residence during this home invasion did not request medical assistance.

Ellendale– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred around 10:48 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 as an unknown vehicle with an unidentified operator was traveling northbound on South Old State Road (CR 213), north of Robbins Road (CR 579). A pedestrian, 53-year-old woman from Ellendale was walking in an unknown direction in near the edge of the roadway.  As the unknown vehicle approached the pedestrian, its right side mirror and possibly front headlight struck her, causing her to be thrown onto the grass on the side of the road.

After the impact, the unknown vehicle fled the scene northbound.

The 53-year-old pedestrian, who wore dark clothing and not carrying a light was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.  Her name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

South Old State Road north of Robbins Road was shut down for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Laurel – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred last evening .

The incident occurred at approximately  8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, as a 37-year-old Laurel man was operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota traveling eastbound on Laurel Road (SR 24), approaching the intersection at Jestice Farm Road (CR 449A).  A 2013 Infiniti JX35 operated by a 31-year-old Laurel man was traveling westbound, approaching the Dakota.

As the two vehicles converged, the Dakota for unknown reasons left its lane of travel, entering into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Infiniti. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the operator of the Infiniti swerved to the right, exiting the roadway into a field.  The Dakota traveled through the westbound lane and shoulder, striking the front center of  the Infiniti in the field with its front center.  After impact, the Dakota was forced into a clockwise rotation, coming to rest partially on the shoulder. The Infiniti came to rest in the same area as the impact, in the field.

The operator of the Dakota who was not properly restrained, was removed from the scene and transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A 32-year-old female passenger in the Infiniti was also transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she has been admitted with non-life threatening injuries.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the crash.   It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor on behalf of the driver of the Dakota.  Laurel Road was shut down for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.  No charges have been filed at this time.
