Robbery Suspect Being Contained Inside Bear Residence

Bear – Delaware State Police are currently on scene at a residence in the unit block of Primrose Drive in the development of Brennan Estates, Bear, where an armed robbery suspect is confirmed to be located. A police perimeter has been set up which has contained the suspect and measures are underway to take him in to custody.

Adjacent residences have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and all others are being asked to avoid the area. Anyone who observes any suspicious activity in the area is asked to call 911.

Updates with further information will be released as it becomes available or as is necessary.

Troopers Investigate Home Invasion-Dover

Dover (19901) –The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred last evening.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 8:57 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 when troopers responded to the 1300 block of South Little Creek Road for a reported home invasion.  Upon arrival, Troopers made contact with a 35-year-old male resident.  The 35-year-old victim advised Troopers he agreed over the phone to meet a female in reference to purchasing an iPhone.  The victim responded to an agreed upon location and met with the female in a parking lot.   The female had proceeded to entered the victims car to discuss the purchase of the iPhone.  The victim advised the female that his money was at his residence at which time the two of then drove to his house.

Upon the victim exiting his vehicle, he was approached by two males displaying firearms and demanding money.  The victim was then forced inside of his residence.  While the two male suspects where inside of the victim’s residence, they ransacked a bedroom.  When they did not find any money, they forced the victim at gunpoint back into his own vehicle.  The suspects then proceeded to drive the victim around in his vehicle demanding to know the location of the money.  The suspects eventually returned to the residence, and again forced the victim back inside of his house for a second time.  The suspects obtained several items prior to fleeing the scene.

The first suspect was described as a black female, 20-30 years of age.  The second suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’00”-6’02” tall, wearing a face mask partially covering his face, a light colored sweatshirt and displaying a handgun.  The third suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’00”-6’02” tall, thin build, wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and also a face mask partially covering his face, and displaying a handgun.  No further suspect information could be provided at this time.  The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.

Troopers Arrest Juvenile for Robbery Attempt – Bear

Bear – Delaware State Police have arrested Salih M. Frink, 14, of Bear, for the attempted robbery of a Bear area restaurant that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:43 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Great Wall Chinese restaurant, located at 807 Governors Place, Bear. Frink placed a food order and as the 35 year old, female employee opened the register to complete the transaction, he jumped on to the counter and reached into the register, in an attempt to obtain money. The employee closed the drawer on Frink’s hand, thwarting his attempt, and then alerted co-workers, who came to her aid. Frink was detained by employees until Troopers arrived on scene. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

Frink was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 where he was arrested and charged with Robbery 2nd Degree. Frink was then arraigned in Family Court on the robbery charge as well as an outstanding Family Court warrant, prior to being committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $10.000.00 secured bail.

Troopers Investigating Serious Crash I-495 – Wilmington

I-495 at 4A

Wilmington (19809) – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred overnight, which has sent two people to the hospital.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:14 a.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, on I-495 southbound, north of Edgemoor Road, Wilmington. A 2005 Ford Escape operated by a 22 year old Philadelphia man, was stopped in the I-495 southbound, left lane of travel, for an unknown reason. A 2016 Nissan Pathfinder operated by a 62 year old Wilmington man was traveling I-495 southbound, also in the left lane. The operator of the Nissan did not see the vehicle stopped in the roadway and a as result, the front end of his vehicle struck the rear of the Ford. After impact both vehicles continued southbound, coming to rest in the I-495 southbound left lane.

The operator of the Ford who was unrestrained, was transported by Delaware State Police helicopter to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. Impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time.

The operator of the Nissan, who was properly restrained, was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment is not being considered a factor on his behalf.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance in Locating Theft Suspect-Seaford

Seaford- The Delaware State Police is seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to locate a suspect in connection with multiple thefts from vehicles.

Between December 10, 2017 and December 11, 2017, State Police responded to the area of Bethel Road and Woodland Ferry Road, Seaford in reference to six reported thefts from motor vehicles.   Through investigative measures, Troopers were able to identify 35-year-old Billy Williams 3rd. of Laurel as a suspect.

A warrant has been obtained for the arrest of Williams including multiple charges of Theft, Conspiracy and Attempting to Sell Stolen Property.  Troopers have been unable to locate Williams who is known to frequent the area of Federalsburg, Maryland and Laurel, Delaware.

Troopers Investigate Stabbing-Millsboro

Millsboro (19966)– The Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit detectives are currently investigating a stabbing that occurred last evening.

The investigation began on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at approximately 8:20 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the intersection of Townsend Road and Harmony Cemetery Road for a reported stabbing.  Upon arrival, units made contact with a 38-year-old victim of Milford who was sitting on the side of the roadway with stab wounds to his extremities.  The 38-year-old victim was removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services and transported to a local area hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that while the 38-year-old victim was a passenger in a vehicle, he engaged in a verbal argument with another passenger.  The argument escalated at which point the driver stopped at the intersection of Townsend Road and Harmony Cemetery Road.  While still seated in the vehicle, the passenger suspect had stabbed the victim.  The victim was able to exit the vehicle prior to the suspect fleeing the scene.

The suspect could only be described as a black male.  The victim was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Pedestrian I-95 – Wilmington

I 95 at 4thStreet

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred overnight.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, on I-95 southbound, south of the 4th Street off-ramp, Wilmington. A 21 year old Wilmington woman was walking in the I-95 southbound right lane of travel for an unknown reason, at which time she was struck by a 2010 Toyota Prius, operated by a 77 year old Galena, Maryland man. After impact, the victim was thrown to the ground, coming to rest on the I-95 southbound, right shoulder. The operator of the Prius brought his vehicle to a controlled stop and remained at the scene.

The victim was transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Impairment on her behalf is unknown at this time. Identification is pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Prius was not injured as a result of the incident. Neither speed nor impairment are being considered as factors on his behalf.

I-95 southbound was closed at Martin Luther King Boulevard for approximately two hours, as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Arrest Suspect In Drug Related Robberies-Felton

Felton-  Members of Probation and Parole, and the Troop 3 Governor’s Task Force (GTF) arrested a suspect in connection with two drug related robberies.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018 members of Probation and Parole and the Troop 3 GTF, responded to the 700 block of Peach Basket Road in reference to 26-year-old Tyree M. Bordley of Felton, who is a level III probationer.  Through investigative measures, Troopers were able to connect Bordley to two drug related robberies in which the drug buyers were robbed at gunpoint in the Felton area.  Subsequently a warrant was obtained for the arrest of Bordley.  Due to Bordley’s probation status and his previous charges, Probation and Parole Officers were granted permission to conduct an administrative search of Bordley’s reported address.

Upon arrival at the residence, Bordley was immediately taken into custody without incident and turned over to Troopers for the Robbery warrant. Probation and Parole Officers then conducted a search of Bordley’s residence, and located a plastic bag containing 2,743 bags (19.201 grams) of heroin.

Bordley was transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Bordley’s charges from the initial Robbery warrant included; Aggravated Menacing, 2 counts of Robbery 1st, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Conspiracy 2nd. Bordley was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court 7 on all charges and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $155,000 cash bond.

Troopers Investigate Armed Robbery-Georgetown

Georgetown (19947)– The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred last evening in the Sandhill Acres.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:58 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at a residence located in the unit block of Merganser Road.  While two victims, a 16-year-old female and a 22-year-old male were seated in the 16-year-old’s vehicle, parked in her driveway a vehicle had pulled in beside them.  A subject exited the vehicle and approached the victims.  During this time, another subject armed with a handgun exited the vehicle and ordered the 22-year-old victim out of the car while demanding he turn over his wallet and cellphone.  While the 22-year-old was being confronted by the suspect with the handgun, two more subjects exited the vehicle.  The 22-year-old victim turned over his cellphone and wallet prior to all four suspects getting back into their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The first suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt.  The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, with a light colored bandana partially covering his face and displaying a handgun.  The other two suspects that exited the vehicle could only be described as Hispanic males.  The suspects vehicle was described as a white, four door passenger car.  No further suspect or vehicle information could be provided at this time.  Both victims were not injured as a result of this incident.

Applications Being Accepted for Position of Cadet Trooper-Application Deadline February 28, 2018

Dover – The Delaware State Police are now accepting applications for the position of Cadet Trooper.

The Cadet Trooper’s primary duties include the enforcement of handicap parking and fire lane violations, however they are also used in various administrative duties such as traffic control at large events and foot patrol at the State Fair. The Cadets will complete 40 hours of mandatory classroom instruction and will be assigned to various troops throughout the state. Since the program began in 1998, the Delaware State Police have hired 69 Cadet Troopers. 22 of those cadets have been hired as Delaware State Troopers.

Minimum Qualifications to become a cadet includes:

  • Education- Candidates must be a Delaware resident and currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college in the state of Delaware (full-time or part-time)
  • Age- Candidates must be between the ages of 18-21
  • Citizenship- Candidates must be a citizen of the United States
  • Driver’s License- Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Applications are being accepted via www.jobaps.com/dsp
  • Anticipating to begin employment in June 2018
  • Current Pay is $13.04 per hour

Selection Process includes:

  • A formal State of Delaware application
  • An Oral Board Interview
  • Polygraph Examination
  • A Background Check
