*Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-New Castle

New Castle (19720)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred earlier today on South Dupont Highway (US RT 13), south of Hamburg Road (Tybout’s Corner).

The incident occurred at approximately 10:14 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018, as a 2003 Toyota Avalon operated by a 19-year-old male was traveling northbound on US RT 13 in the left lane.  For unknown reasons, the Avalon gradually drifted into the right lane of travel, and then off of the east edge of the roadway where it traveled through a grassy area. The Avalon struck a small rise in the ground which subsequently sent the vehicle airborne into an area of thick brush and trees.  The vehicle’s front end struck a large tree before coming to its final resting place.

The 19-year-old operator identified as Adrian Velazquez from Kearney, NJ sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  He was properly restrained and impairment is not considered a factor on his behalf at this time.  The front seat passenger, a 19-year-old male from Newark, NJ was properly restrained and removed from the scene by EMS.  He was transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The left rear passenger, identified as 19-year-old Alfahtee Heuy from Hillside, NJ was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The right rear passenger, a 20-year-old male from Howell, NJ was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, landing a short distance away from the vehicle for a final resting place.  He was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he has been admitted in critical condition.

USRT 13 northbound, south of Hamburg Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Complaint-Lincoln

Lincoln– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident in which shots were fired at a residence last evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:46 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018, at a residence located in the 22000 block of Pine Haven Road.  A 51-year-old resident was at a neighbor’s house when he heard gun shots.  Further investigation revealed that his residence was shot at while a 45-year-old male was asleep inside.  The trailer was shot twice on its side, with one bullet penetrating through the residence.

There are no suspects at this time, and the 51-year-old male and 45-year-old male were not harmed as a result of this incident.

This case remains under investigation and the Delaware State Police is requesting anyone with information regarding this incident to please contact Troop 7, at 302-644-5020. *Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Pedestrian- Newark

Newark (19713) – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening on East Chestnut Hill Road (DE SR 4).

The incident occurred at approximately 9:38 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 as a fully marked Chevrolet Caprice, Newark (Delaware) Police vehicle was traveling eastbound on DE SR 4 in the left lane, headed towards the intersection of South Chapel Street (DE SR 72). The Caprice was heading to a non-emergency complaint and did not have its emergency equipment activated.  As the Caprice proceeded eastbound from the entrance to the Robscott Manor development, a pedestrian entered into its path of travel.

The front of the Caprice struck the pedestrian, sending him onto the hood and into the front windshield of the vehicle.   The pedestrian came to rest in the left lane of eastbound DE SR 4 for a final resting place. The pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing and was not utilizing a marked crosswalk, was not carrying an illuminated device, and was not wearing any reflective material.  The area in which this collision occurred is not illuminated by artificial lighting.  The pedestrian, a 40-year-old Newark man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator of the Caprice was not injured as a result of this crash and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.  Speed and impairment are not considered a factor on his behalf.  Impairment on the part of the pedestrian remains under investigation at this time, and his identification is pending the notification of next of kin.

Eastbound DE SR 4 was closed between Robscott Manor and DE SR 72 for approximately 2 hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.

*Update* Troopers Seek Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspect

Dover (19901) – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Dover area McDonalds and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m., Monday, February, 26, 2018, at the McDonalds, located at 1704 E. Lebanon Road.  A black male suspect entered the business and approached the cash register. While at the cash register, the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from an employee.  The employee turned over an undisclosed amount of cash prior to the suspect fleeing the business in the above pictured vehicle. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect (pictured above) was described as a black male, 5’11”-6’00” tall, with brown eyes and black hair, wearing a light colored sweater, jeans, and displaying a handgun.

The Smyrna Police Department is also handling a similar incident that occurred on the same date, at approximately 4:18 p.m. in which a local area Walgreens was robbed.  Information provided on the suspect in this case was similar to the suspect described in the McDonalds incident.

Troopers Arrest Suspect for Threats Made to Middle School

Millsboro– The Delaware State Police arrested a student after it was discovered that he made threatening comments towards a Middle School.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 26, 2018 when school officials at Millsboro Middle School, located at 302 E. State Street, were made aware that a seventh grader, identified as 13-year-old Frank Bradley (no photo available) of Millsboro made threatening statements on a school assignment.  The student was removed from the school for an evaluation.

Further investigation revealed that Bradley made concerning comments towards the school’s principal and a staff member.  On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, Delaware State Police School Resource Officer was provided with information that Bradley had also made threatening comments directed towards the school.

On Thursday, March 1, 2018, Bradley was taken into custody at a residence in Newark without incident.  Bradley was charged with Terroristic Threatening (Felony).  He was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on $1,000.00 unsecured bond.

Troopers Seek Assistance in Locating Wanted Sex Offender

Dover- The Delaware State Police Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit (S.O.A.R.) is currently looking for the following wanted sex offender.

Tevon D. Savage, 28 of Millsboro who is 5’09” tall, 225 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes is a registered Tier III sex offender who is currently wanted for failure to re-register and has three active capiases including violation of probation.  He is known to frequent the Millsboro and Milton areas.

Joint Investigation Leads to Recovery of Drugs – Three Subjects Charged

Newark – Based on information provided by Probation and Parole officers regarding suspected drug activity at a Newark residence, the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF), have arrested three subjects on drug related charges.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, GTF members responded to a residence in the 900 block of Greentree Road, in the development of Hillside Heights, Newark, to assist Probation and Parole officers with an administrative search.

Upon making entry, GTF members came in to contact with Taron Hair, 24, and Selena Lugo, 22, who are both residents, along with Karon Phillips, 24 of Wilmington. A subsequent search of the residence resulted in the recovery of 3,127 bags (21.889 grams) of heroin and $4,451.00 in suspected drug money.

All three subjects were charged with one count each of Possession of Heroin in a Tier V Quantity, Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin in a Tier IV Quantity, and Conspiracy 2nd Degree.

Hair was arraigned and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $102,000.00 cash bail. Phillips was also committed to the HRYCI on $41,000.00 secured bail.

Lugo was committed to the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, in lieu of $41,000.00 secured bail.
