Wilmington (19808) – Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man for indecent exposure after he was observed committing a lewd act while in plain view of a passing motorist.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 as a 48 year old Wilmington woman was driving past a residence in the 3500 block of Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington. As she passed the residence she observed a white male, later identified as David L. DiTonno, 64, totally nude and in the process of committing a lewd act. The woman became alarmed and immediately called 911.

Upon Troopers arrival at the residence, which was confirmed to be DiTonno’s home, he was observed sitting in a chair in his open garage, totally nude and in plain view of the public roadway. At the time he was taken in to custody he admitted that he was attempting to gain attention from women in the area.

DiTonno was transported to Troop 6 where he was formally charged with one count each of Indecent Exposure 2^nd Degree and Lewdness. He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 at which time he was placed on pre-trial supervision and released on $500.00 unsecured bail.

Greenwood-The Delaware State Police have arrested a Felton man on burglary charges after he was observed breaking into a garage.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at approximately 8:28 a.m. when Troopers were dispatched to the 13000 block of St. Johnstown Road for a report of a burglary in progress called in by a neighbor.  Upon arrival to the residence, Troopers located 34-year-old, Jesse A. Nichols hiding in the garage area.  It was learned that Jesse’s stepfather currently lives at the residence and Jesse has not lived there for the past 3 to 4 years.  Jesse was taken into custody without further incident.

It was later discovered that Jesse had entered the same property on June 6, 2018, and stole several items, including a jewelry box, cuff link, and a Colman cooler.  These items were later recovered from Jesse’s vehicle.

Jesse was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with Burglary 3rd, Burglary 2nd, and Theft (Felony).  He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $1,495.00 cash only bond.

Wilmington –  Delaware State Police Troop 6 will be holding a Community Café on Friday, June 29, 2018, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at The Well, located at 6949 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin. Community members will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the commanding officers from Troop 6, as well as the Community Outreach Trooper. This Community Café is often referred to as “Coffee with a Cop” in other police agencies and is being held in an effort to build a stronger relationship between the Delaware State Police and the communities that we so proudly serve.

Laurel– Delaware State Police are currently on scene investigating a crash involving a tractor trailer and dump truck that occurred at approximately 2:52 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 on Hardscrabble Road, east of Messick Road.

Hardscrabble Road between Messick Road and James Road is closed at this time due to grain all over the roadway.

Motorist should expect extended delays in this area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

New Castle (19720) – The Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a New Castle gas station that took place overnight.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:24 a.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Exxon gas station located at 261 S. DuPont Highway, New Castle. A black male suspect entered the business and approached two employees at the sales counter. The suspect then displayed a handgun and demanded cash. Both victims complied with the suspects demand by turning over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then exited the business and fled the parking lot in a blue two door vehicle with an unknown registration.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’3”-5’5”, 140-150 lbs., wearing all dark clothing and in possession of a silver handgun.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Dover (19901)– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred last evening in the Capitol Park area.

The preliminary investigation has determined that on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Troopers responded to a local area hospital where a 19-year-old victim had been brought in with a gunshot wound.  Further investigation revealed that the incident allegedly occurred on the 100 block of President Drive, Capitol Park, when the victim was behind his residence smoking and he heard multiple “pops”, and realized he had been shot.  The victim reported seeing a suspect wearing a dark colored sweatshirt running into the woods.

The victim was transported privately to a local area hospital with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso.  He was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit.  If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective T. Newark – The Delaware State Police have formally charged Marcus S. Heath, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida, as an out of state fugitive in reference to an active Grand Theft warrant issued out of Duval County, Florida.

Heath was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 before being committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending extradition proceedings.

Newark – The Delaware State Police in conjunction with the New Castle County Police and Maryland State Police, have arrested Marcus Heath, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida, after he led police on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at approximately 4:21 p.m., Delaware authorities were contacted by the Maryland State Police, who advised that a stolen, silver, 2006 Mercedes Benz with Florida tags, possibly being operated by Heath was on I-95 in Maryland, and may be headed towards Delaware.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., a Maryland State Trooper, in a fully marked patrol vehicle, located the Mercedes as it was traveling northbound on I-95 in the area of mile marker 108.7 in Cecil County, Maryland. The Trooper who was able to positively identify Heath as the operator, activated his emergency equipment and initiated a lawful traffic stop. Heath refused to stop, and continued to travel I-95 northbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded in to Delaware, where it was last seen, on I-95 northbound in the area of the Delaware House service plaza.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., this same date, a 911 call was made by a resident in the 400 block of Rosewood Drive, Newark, advising that an unoccupied, silver Mercedes Benz with Florida tags was parked in their driveway, and that they were not familiar with the vehicle.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies began searching the area and at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Delaware Trooper observed a subject matching the description of Heath in the area of Christiana Road (DE Rt. 273) and McIntosh Plaza, Newark. As the Trooper approached, Heath attempted to flee, however he was taken in to custody without incident after a brief foot pursuit.

Heath is currently being held as an out of state fugitive.

Over the course of the last week the Delaware State Police have investigated a rash of vehicle break-ins that have taken place in Pike Creek and North Wilmington. While these most recent incidents have occurred in specific areas, we must realize that there is the potential for anyone, anywhere to be the victim of a similar crime. With that in mind we are offering the following prevention and awareness tips:

• Keep the doors of your vehicles locked at all times and windows shut.
• Do not leave items of value in your vehicle. This includes purses, wallets, credit cards, electronics, check books, money, SS card, loose change, documents and paperwork with your personal information listed.
• Store valuable tools inside your residence. If needed daily for work, create an easy system to load and unload, such as using storage containers to transport.
• Lock your glove box, which should only store your registration and insurance cards. Do not store your vehicle title in the glove box. Store it in a safe place in your residence.
• Do not leave items that have a perceived value, such as a laptop case with no laptop.
• Clear the vehicle of all clutter and personal items. This can give the general impression that other property of value may be within the vehicle.
• Do not keep a spare vehicle key hidden in the same vehicle. Do not store house keys or other keys in your vehicle.
• If possible, keep your vehicle parked under a lighted area that you can check on from your residence.
• If you have a surveillance security system, include your vehicles in the angle of your camera. If you locate a suspicious subject on your property, in the area of your vehicles, do not confront them, call 911 immediately.

And finally, be a good witness for your neighbors, co-workers and fellow citizens, as you would want them to do the same for you. Pay attention and be aware to what is going on in your neighborhood, and other places that you frequent throughout the course of your day such as the parking lots of local businesses, your workplace, parks etc.

Millsboro– Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a serious crash involving a motorcycle that occurred earlier today.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:51 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, when a 2016 GMC Canyon pickup truck pulling a boat trailer loaded with a pleasure boat, was traveling northbound on Oak Orchard Road (SR 5) approaching the entrance to the Oak Orchard Diner. A 1988 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was traveling northbound behind the pickup truck. The operator of the truck began to turn right into the entrance of the Oak Orchard Diner. At the same time, the motorcycle began to pass the truck and its trailer on the right side. As a result, the front of the motorcycle struck the right front corner of the truck.  The motorcycle fell to its right side, ejecting the operator. The truck was able to come to a controlled stop in the parking lot of the Oak Orchard Diner.

The operator of the pickup truck, a 63-year-old man from Wilmington, and his passenger were properly restrained and both were uninjured as a result of this crash.  Impairment does not appear to be a factor on behalf of the driver.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 58-year-old man from Lewes, was not wearing a helmet.  He was transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.  Impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time.

Oak Orchard Road in the area of John J. Williams Highway was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
