Troopers Investigating Serious Crash Involving a Bicyclist – Dover

Dover – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist that occurred Thursday night.

The initial investigation has determined that at approximately 9:19 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2019, a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by a 56 year old Hartly woman was traveling westbound on Forest Ave. (Rt. 8), east of Victory Chapel Rd. A 59 year old Hartly man was riding a bicycle westbound on Forest Ave. when he was struck by the Chrysler. The bicyclist was thrown to the pavement where he came to rest and the Chrysler came to a controlled stop and remained on scene.

The bicyclist was transported to Kent General with serious injuries. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time.

The driver of the Chrysler was not injured. Impairment on her behalf is not being considered as a contributing factor.

Troopers Attempting To Locate Organized Retail Theft Suspect

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are attempting to locate Kimberly Akisha Lingham-Bailey, 37, of Philadelphia PA, who has been identified as one of three suspects involved in an organized retail theft ring that has targeted Nordstrom’s department stores in multiple states.

This organized retail theft ring has been connected to shoplifting incidents that have taken place at Nordstrom’s department stores located in Delaware, North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, Florida, Georgia and Virginia.

Active warrants are currently on file in Delaware for Lingham-Bailey, charging her with felony shoplifting and conspiracy related to two incidents at the Newark DE, Nordstrom’s that occurred in January and February 2019, in which a total of $4119.00 in merchandise was taken.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident- Millsboro

Millsboro– The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on March 14, 2019 at approximately 11:28 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 29000 block of Colonial Estates Avenue within the Colonial Estates Mobile Home Park for a report of shots fired.  Further investigation revealed that a residence and a vehicle had been struck by gunfire.

Inside the residence during this incident was a 63-year-old female and two teenagers. The residents were not injured as a result of this incident.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Delaware State Police Camp Barnes Counselor Applications Available

Delaware– The Delaware State Police is currently seeking individuals for the position of Camp Counselor for the 2019 summer season!  Camp Barnes is an overnight summer camp for Delaware Youth between the ages of 10-13.

Camp Barnes has a staff of 14 counselors (7 male and 7 female). All counselors are required to submit to a criminal background and are interviewed prior to being hired.  The staff also includes 1 on site nurse, 1 head cook, and 1 assistant cook. A State Trooper will be on duty at all times when the camp is in session.  Camp Barnes is NOT a boot camp or intended for youth with behavior or disciplinary problems.

Camp Counselor Position:

  • Starting salary is $300.00 per week
  • Camp Weeks: June 24th – August 2nd
  • Food and lodging provided
  • Weekends off
  • Must be a graduating senior in high school or college student

Troopers Attempt to Identify Burglary Suspect-Georgetown

Georgetown- The Delaware State Police are investigating a residential burglary and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

On March 13, 2019, at approximately 12:56 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 24000 block of Lewes-Georgetown Highway for a report of a burglary.  It was discovered that an unknown suspect had forced entry into the rear of the residence.  Once inside, the suspect removed several items and fled the scene.

*Update #2* Death Investigation Ruled a Homicide

Laurel- The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the suspicious death of an adult female victim that has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation began on March 9, 2019 at approximately 7:24 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to S. Shell Bridge Road in the area of Broad Creek Estates for a victim that was found deceased on the side of the roadway.

The victim was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy was performed and the cause and manner of death was determined to be a homicide sustained from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The case continues to remain under investigation and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective J. King at 302-741-2821. Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-Seaford

Seaford- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that has turned fatal.

The incident occurred on March 6th, 2019 at approximately 9:47 a.m., when a 2004 Dodge Neon was traveling northbound on King Road just south of Dove Road. A 2005 Pontiac Vibe had just pulled from a private driveway on King Road and was slowly accelerating in a northerly direction. The operator of the Dodge, upon observing the Pontiac pull from the driveway activated their brakes, however was unable to avoid striking the rear of the Pontiac.

The operator of the Dodge, a 34-year-old male from Bridgeville was properly restrained and not injured.

The 0perator of the Pontiac, 79-year-old Sandra E. Johnson of Seaford, was properly restrained and transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.  She succumbed to her injuries on Monday, March 11th, 2019.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Unit and no charges have been filed at this time.

Delaware State Police Troop 3 Host 2018 “Year In Review”-Camden

Camden– The Delaware State Police Troop 3 will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting to provide the public with its 2018 “Year in Review”.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Troop 3’s David B. Pulling Community Room located at 3759 S. State Street, Camden-Wyoming. The presentation will focus on providing the community with a better understanding of how Troop 3 functions and the duties and responsibilities those Troopers handle on a daily basis. Topics covered will also include Troop 3’s structure and components; upcoming goals and 2018 goal attainment specific to crime and collisions; as well as statistics concerning various crimes within their jurisdiction across Kent County.

The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is a great opportunity for the community to become more aware of what is happening in their area and how Troop 3’s jurisdiction compares with national crime statistics.

*Update* State Police Conducting Death Investigation-Laurel

Laurel- The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate the suspicious death of an adult female victim.

The investigation began on March 9, 2019 at approximately 7:24 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to S. Shell Bridge Road in the area of Broad Creek Estates for a victim that was found deceased on the side of the roadway.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate this incident and are working closely with the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine the identity of the victim and the cause and manner of death.

There has been no other suspicious activity reported in the area at this time.  The Delaware State Police, Troop 5 along with allied agencies have increased their patrols in the area.
