Wilmington (19803) – The Delaware State Police have identified 25 year old Shavar Steer of Newark as the operator of a Suzuki GSX motorcycle, who was killed as a result of a crash that occurred at approximately 11:07 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at the intersection of Concord Pike (U.S. 202) and Fairfax Blvd.

Newark – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:36 a.m., Sunday, May 26, 2019 on eastbound Christiana Rd. (DE Rt. 273) west of Old Baltimore Pike, Newark. A 2015 Nissan Versa Note, operated by a 21 year old Bear woman was traveling eastbound Christiana Rd., in the right turn lane for Old Baltimore Pike southbound. A 28 year old Newark man who was a pedestrian was also walking on eastbound Christiana Rd. in the turn lane for Old Baltimore Pike southbound. The front right side of the Nissan struck the pedestrian and projected him off the south edge of the road where he came to rest in a grassy area. The Nissan came to a controlled stop and remained at the scene.

The pedestrian victim was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured. Neither speed nor impairment are deemed as factors on her behalf.

At the time of the collision there was heavy rainfall occurring. The investigation also determined that the victim was wearing a dark colored top and light colored pants, none of which were reflective. He was also not carrying any type of lighting device.

Wilmington (19803) – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred late Friday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:07 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at the intersection of Concord Pike (U.S. 202) and Fairfax Blvd. A 2012 Kia Sedona operated by a 69 year old Holly Springs, NC man was turning left on to Fairfax Blvd. from southbound Concord Pike, with a solid green light. A 2005 Suzuki GSX, operated by a 25 year old Newark man, was traveling northbound on Concord Pike in the right lane, with a solid green light, reportedly at a high rate of speed. As the two vehicles proceeded through the intersection, the Suzuki struck the right side of the Kia.

Multiple witness accounts described the Suzuki as traveling with several other motorcycles that were being operated recklessly and driving at high rates of speed just prior to the collision occurring.

As a result of the collision the operator of the Suzuki was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time.

The driver of the Kia was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment on his behalf is not being considered as a factor in the collision.

Northbound Concord Pike was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated ad cleared.

Dover- The Delaware State Police would like to wish everyone an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day Weekend, and as we kick-off the unofficial start of summer, lets not forget that this weekend and more specifically Monday, Memorial Day is a time to memorialize those members of our armed forces that made the ultimate sacrifice while preserving the freedom or our great nation. We also want to take time to thank those veterans who will be celebrating with us, as well as those brave men and women currently serving as members of our military.

The Delaware State Police will be out in full force patrolling the roadways this weekend to ensure that everyone is driving with due care and offering assistance to motorists in need. Troopers intend to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes on our highways during this “official” start of the summer season, and will be focusing on distracted driving, motorists not wearing seat belts, unrestrained children in vehicles, and any aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, following too close, and especially, driving under the influence.

By following these easy steps, a driver can enjoy a safe holiday weekend travel without jeopardizing their life or the lives of others who may be on the road:

• Ensure all occupants are properly restrained
• Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin
• Before drinking, please designate a sober driver and give that person your keys
• If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely
• If you see a drunk or aggressive driver on the road, immediately contact 911 as soon as safely possible.
• If you know someone who is about to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.

Selbyville, DE- The Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s help in locating 47-year-old Javier Guzman of Millsboro after he fled from a Trooper while in custody at the Selbyville Police Department this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. today, May 24, 2019, while Guzman was being detained by Troopers at the Selbyville Police Department located at 68 Church Street, Selbyville, DE for a Felony DUI investigation.  After being handcuffed, Guzman was able to free himself and then fled from the building on foot.

Guzman is described as a white male, 5’09” tall, 170 lbs., and bald with a tattoo on his head (2014 Mugshot attached).  He was last seen wearing a maroon shirt over a white t-shirt.  He may possibly be associated with a white, 2005 GMC Envoy with DE registration PC33628, with Oceanside Cleaning on the side of the vehicle.

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred late Thursday night, on I-95 in the area of Concord Pike.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:08 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019 on northbound I-95 approximately .5 miles north of Concord Pike. A 2006 Buick Lacrosse, operated by a 33 year old Wilmington man was initially traveling northbound on I-95 in the right lane. For an undetermined reason the Buick failed to remain in the lane of travel and entered into a construction zone where the right side of the vehicle struck a concrete barrier. As a result of impacting the barrier, the vehicle sustained a flat tire which caused it to become disabled, partially in the center grass median and partially in the left lane of travel. After becoming disabled both the driver and a 28 year old female passenger exited the vehicle. The driver then entered into the lane of travel to inspect the damage at which time he was struck by a 2016 Toyota Camry, operated by a 45 year old Wilmington man that was traveling northbound in the left lane.

The pedestrian, who was wearing all dark, non-reflective clothing was transported to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition. The female was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota was also not injured. Neither impairment nor improper driving are being considered as factors on his behalf.

Northbound I-95 was closed between Concord Pike and Marsh Rd. for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

 Millville- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on May 22, 2019 at approximately 8:05 p.m., when a 2018 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Roxana Road (SR 17) north of Powell Farm Road and had stopped in the travel lane with the left turn signal activated waiting to turn left into a commercial business entrance. A 2013 GMC Acadia was traveling southbound on SR 17 approaching the Corolla. The operator of the Corolla proceeded to turn left into the path of the Acadia.   As a result, the front of the Acadia struck the right side of the Corolla for impact within the southbound lane.

The operator of the Corolla, a 57-year-old male of New Hope, PA was properly restrained and not injured in the collision. The front seat passenger, a 59-year-old female of Frankford, DE was properly restrained and not injured.  A rear seat passenger, a 78-year-old female of Philadelphia, PA was properly restrained.  She sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Beebe Medical Center and later transferred to the Christina Hospital.  A second rear seat passenger, an 81-year-old female of New Hope, PA was properly restrained and sustained serious injuries.  She was transported to the Beebe Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.  Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Acadia, a 28-year-old female of Selbyville, DE was properly restrained and not injured in the collision. A front seat passenger and two rear seat children passengers were also in the vehicle, properly restrained and did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.

Roxana Road was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
