Seaford – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred just after midnight.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2019 at approximately 12:06 a.m., when Troopers responded to a residence in the 23000 block of West Middlecord Circle, Seaford, for a shots fired complaint.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that unknown suspect(s) had fired multiple rounds at the residence.  The residence was occupied at this time by six individuals ranging from ages 11 to 51.  Further investigation revealed that the exterior of the residence was struck nine times.  One bullet entered the residence and was located in a bathroom.  There were no reports of injuries.

Harrington- The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery of a Valero Shore Stop that occurred earlier this morning.

The incident occurred on November 12, 2019 at approximately 5:19 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Valero Shore Stop located at 16381 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a store manager who advised that a subject had entered the store, walked up to the register and demanded money.  The manager advised the suspect that there was no money in the register at this time.  The suspect never displayed a weapon and proceeded to walk out of the store without obtaining merchandise or cash.  The manager was not injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 20-30 years old, wearing all dark clothing.  The suspect was seen driving away from the area in a black four door passenger vehicle.

Seaford – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred Saturday evening in Seaford.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at a residence located in the 24000 block of Middlecord Circle, Seaford. A 17 year old female was in her bedroom when she heard multiple gunshots from outside the residence. Troopers discovered several shell casings on the ground and several bullet holes in the exterior of the residence. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Greenwood– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on November 9, 2019 at approximately 5:59 p.m., when a 2011 Kia Rio was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway (US 13), and had stopped in the cross over at the intersection of Woodyard Road, intending to turn left. A 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway approaching the intersection with Woodyard Rd.. For unknown reasons, the operator of the Kia failed to see the Explorer traveling northbound and pulled out directly into it’s path. As a result, the front of the Kia struck the left rear of the Explorer. After impact the Kia exited the intersection where it came to rest. The Explorer exited the roadway and traveled approximately 330 feet through the grass median rolling over multiple times before coming to rest upside down in the southbound lane of Sussex Highway.

The operator of the Kia, a 70-year-old female from Greenwood, DE was properly restrained and was transported to Bay Health Sussex Campus with non-life threatening injuries where she was treated and released. Impairment on her behalf is not deemed as a contributing factor in the crash.

The operator of the Explorer, a 33-year-old male from Camden-Wyoming, DE, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The right front passenger in the Explorer was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Christiana Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Sussex Highway were closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been filed at this time.

Kent County-A two-day multi-agency operation was recently conducted at locations throughout Kent County to address quality of life crime, violent crime and reduction in the number of persons with outstanding warrants and probation absconders.

The operation concluded on November 6, 2019, was a collaborative effort between the Delaware State Police Troop 3, Milford Police Department, Camden Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, Probation and Parole, and the Department of Corrections.

The operation consisted of two separate phases. Multi-agency fugitive apprehension teams were assembled and were dispersed throughout Kent County. These teams addressed the active warrant file at Delaware State Police Troop 3 and known absconders from Probation and Parole. These teams successfully located 23 wanted individuals. A total of 18 warrants totaling 194 criminal charges were successfully served by the fugitive apprehension teams. Charges included in the executed warrants included Burglary and Theft of a Firearm. An additional 34 Court capiases to included violations of probations were also cleared by arrest. One civil citation for possession of marijuana was issued.

The second phase of this operation consisted of a pro-active crime blitz to address violent crime, drug dealing, and quality of life crime in Kent County. This operation was conducted by the Kent County Governor’s Task Force (GTF) and the Kent County Drug Unit (KDU). During this phase, one subject was apprehended on several court capiases and also charged with five misdemeanor offenses stemming from this incident. A separate investigation during this phase resulted in a search warrant being executed on a residence in Kent County.  As a result of the search warrant, 189 baggies (approximately 1.323 grams) of heroin were found in the residence, along with a juvenile under the age of 10.  A total of five court capiases were also cleared during this phase of the operation.

The Delaware State Police would like to thank the following agencies for their participation in the operation: Delaware Probation and Parole (Adult and Juvenile services), Department of Corrections, Milford Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, Camden Police Department and the Justice of the Peace Courts. This combined effort highlights how the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies can effectively combat crime which in turn increases the quality of life for the communities we serve.

Lewes- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes woman after she was found to be operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol for the 6^th time.

The incident occurred on November 7, 2019 at approximately 9:37 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to an accident in the area of Conley Chapel Road south of Beaver Dam Road, Lewes. Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a dark gray GMC Sierra had been involved in a single vehicle crash where the vehicle traveled off the roadway and rolled over.  Upon contact with the driver of the Sierra, 56-year-old Cheryl S. Surber, an odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued.

Surber was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7.  A computer check revealed that Surber had five previous DUI convictions, making this her 6th arrest.  Surber was charged with the following:

• 6th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
• Driving While Suspended or Revoked

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delores Baylor Womens Correctional Institution on $7,000.00 cash only bond.

Newark – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a pair of carjackings that occurred on Monday, October 28, 2019, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

The first incident occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2019, at the rear of the Papa John’s Pizza, located at 480 Peoples Plaza. The pictured suspects approached the victim, displaying a handgun and demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle. The victim refused to comply and a struggle ensued. The victim was able to retain possession of his keys and after a brief struggle, the suspects fled on foot towards Glasgow Avenue. The victim refused medical treatment for minor injuries sustained during the incident.

At 6:30 p.m., the same two pictured suspects approached the victim, as he sat in his 2017 Honda Pilot, which was parked at the gas pumps at the Sunoco gas station, located at 2360 Pulaski Hwy. A handgun was again displayed and the suspects demanded the victim’s keys and vehicle. The victim complied with the demand and turned over his keys who then fled onto Pulaski Hwy., in the Honda. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.
