*Traffic Advisory* Tractor Trailer Crash Causes Lane Closures on I-95 – Newark

Newark (19713)- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a crash that occurred at approximately 8:49 a.m., involving a Tractor Trailer and a small SUV. The crash occurred on I-95 southbound north of the Service Center south of SR 273, Newark.

I-95 southbound three right lanes are closed with left lanes open.

Motorists will experience delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery of Liquor Store-Smyrna

Smyrna- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a liquor store last evening.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2019 at approximately 7:15 p.m., when Troopers responded to the Spruance City Liquor store located at 625 Smyrna Clayton Boulevard, Smyrna, in reference to an armed robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a male employee who advised that an unknown male suspect had entered the store.  The suspect approached the employee and pointed a handgun at him, while demanding money.  The employee turned over an undisclosed amount of cash prior to the suspect fleeing the store. The employee was not injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, wearing dark clothing and a dark colored mask.  He was armed with what appeared to be a silver and black colored handgun, and is believed to have fled on foot.

Wilmington- The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has officially classified the death of 50 year old Susan M. Ledyard of Wilmington as a homicide, due to blunt force trauma and drowning. The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit and the Troop 2 Major Crimes Unit  are continuing to actively investigate the incident. There is no further information to release at this time.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident – Seaford

Seaford – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred just after midnight.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2019 at approximately 12:06 a.m., when Troopers responded to a residence in the 23000 block of West Middlecord Circle, Seaford, for a shots fired complaint.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that unknown suspect(s) had fired multiple rounds at the residence.  The residence was occupied at this time by six individuals ranging from ages 11 to 51.  Further investigation revealed that the exterior of the residence was struck nine times.  One bullet entered the residence and was located in a bathroom.  There were no reports of injuries.

Troopers Investigating Attempted Robbery of Valero Shore Stop-Harrington

Harrington- The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery of a Valero Shore Stop that occurred earlier this morning.

The incident occurred on November 12, 2019 at approximately 5:19 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Valero Shore Stop located at 16381 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a store manager who advised that a subject had entered the store, walked up to the register and demanded money.  The manager advised the suspect that there was no money in the register at this time.  The suspect never displayed a weapon and proceeded to walk out of the store without obtaining merchandise or cash.  The manager was not injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 20-30 years old, wearing all dark clothing.  The suspect was seen driving away from the area in a black four door passenger vehicle.

Greenwood- The Delaware State Police have identified the driver who died in a crash that occurred on November 9, 2019, on Sussex Highway (US 13), in the area of Woodyard Road, Greenwood, as 33-year-old Brooks S. Perry of Camden-Wyoming, DE.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident – Seaford

Seaford – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred Saturday evening in Seaford.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at a residence located in the 24000 block of Middlecord Circle, Seaford. A 17 year old female was in her bedroom when she heard multiple gunshots from outside the residence. Troopers discovered several shell casings on the ground and several bullet holes in the exterior of the residence. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash- Greenwood

Greenwood– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on November 9, 2019 at approximately 5:59 p.m., when a 2011 Kia Rio was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway (US 13), and had stopped in the cross over at the intersection of Woodyard Road, intending to turn left. A 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway approaching the intersection with Woodyard Rd.. For unknown reasons, the operator of the Kia failed to see the Explorer traveling northbound and pulled out directly into it’s path. As a result, the front of the Kia struck the left rear of the Explorer. After impact the Kia exited the intersection where it came to rest. The Explorer exited the roadway and traveled approximately 330 feet through the grass median rolling over multiple times before coming to rest upside down in the southbound lane of Sussex Highway.

The operator of the Kia, a 70-year-old female from Greenwood, DE was properly restrained and was transported to Bay Health Sussex Campus with non-life threatening injuries where she was treated and released. Impairment on her behalf is not deemed as a contributing factor in the crash.

The operator of the Explorer, a 33-year-old male from Camden-Wyoming, DE, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The right front passenger in the Explorer was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Christiana Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Sussex Highway were closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been filed at this time.
