*UPDATE- Troopers Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash Concord Pike at Rocky Run Parkway – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 6:24 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 on Concord Pike (U.S. 202) in the area of Rocky Run Parkway.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2018 Mazda 3, operated by a 63 year old Smyrna woman, was traveling southbound on Concord Pike approaching the intersection with Rocky Run Parkway, and was proceeding with a green light. A 64 year old New Castle woman was on foot westbound, attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Concord Pike and proceeded directly into the path of the Mazda. The front end of the Mazda struck the female pedestrian throwing her into the southbound right lane where she came to rest. After the collision, the Mazda came to a controlled stop and remained on scene.

The pedestrian was transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Further investigation determined that she was wearing all dark, non-reflective clothing and was not carrying a light. Impairment on her behalf is undetermined at this time. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Mazda who was properly restrained was not injured. Neither speed nor impairment are deemed as factors on her behalf.

Southbound Concord Pike was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. M. Calio of the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction by calling 302-365-8483.
