Troopers Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash-Fenwick Island

Fenwick Island-The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred earlier this morning. 

The incident occurred on January 1, 2020 at approximately 3:20 a.m., when a 2016 Jeep Patriot was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway in the right lane approximately 1 mile north of Fenwick Island. A pedestrian was either walking or standing in the right lane, facing south. The operator of the Patriot was unable to perceive the pedestrian, who was wearing all dark clothing and not using a light. As a result, the right front of the Patriot struck the pedestrian in the right travel lane.

The operator of the Patriot, a 23-year-old male, from Georgetown, DE remained on scene.  He sustained minor injury and declined medical treatment.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old male from Ocean City, Maryland, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Coastal Highway southbound was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Investigating Carjacking – Claymont

Claymont – The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that took place in the parking lot of a Claymont area grocery store on Monday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:09 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Food Lion, located at 3609 Philadelphia Pike. A 28 year old female was parked in front of the Food Lion waiting for a friend to exit the business. As she was waiting a male suspect who had his face concealed, entered the front passenger seat of the vehicle. He then ordered the victim out of the vehicle while implying that he had a weapon. The victim complied and the suspect then fled in the vehicle. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The vehicle is a black, Toyota Camry, bearing Delaware tag 324322.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20-25 years of age, 5’5”-5’7” tall, 130-150 lbs., thin build with a fabric covering his face.

Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery-Frankford

Frankford- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2019 at approximately 8:27 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a property located in the 30000 block of Omar Road, Frankford for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 38-year-old-male victim who advised that while he was checking on a pole building on his property, he was approached from behind by two male suspects.  One of the suspects placed a sharp object by the victim’s neck and demanded money.  The victim was subsequently cut with the sharp object as he was attempting to hand over cash.  The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash prior to fleeing the scene on foot.  The victim sustained minor injury and declined medical treatment.

No physical description of the suspects could be provided.

Troopers Investigating Home Invasion Robbery – Dover

Dover – The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred at approximately 11:53 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at a residence located in the unit block of Kentwood Drive, Dover.

The initial investigation has determined that a 25 year old male was alone in the residence when he heard a knock at the door. Assuming that it was his roommate who had forgotten his house keys, the victim opened the door. As he opened the door two male suspects armed with handguns forcibly entered the residence and demanded cash. One suspect ordered the victim to the ground at gunpoint and then proceeded to physically assault him, while the second suspect searched the residence.

After obtaining miscellaneous property and an undisclosed amount of cash, both suspects fled in an unknown direction.

The suspects could only be described as black males wearing all dark clothing and in possession of handguns.

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police have identified 64 year old Deborah Pence, of New Castle, as the pedestrian who was struck and killed in a crash that occurred at approximately 6:24 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 on Concord Pike (U.S. 202) in the area of Rocky Run Parkway.

Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident – Dover

Dover – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that took place in the Capital Park development on Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:52 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019, Troopers responded to the unit block of State Circle in Capitol Park for the report of shots being fired. The initial investigation determined that a 31 year old male had just exited his residence and was walking towards his vehicle which was parked at the end of his driveway when an unknown suspect opened fire.

The male subject was not struck however the residence was struck by seven rounds and two vehicles which were parked in the area were each struck by one round.

During a search of the area Troopers recovered multiple 9mm and 40 caliber shell casings from the adjacent roadway and yard of the residence.

At this time here have been no reported injuries connected to this shooting and there is no suspect information nor a possible motive for the shooting.

Troopers Investigating a Shooting – Dover

Dover – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 9:12 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2019, in front of a residence located in the 200 block of South Governors Blvd., Capital Park, Dover.

The initial investigation has determined that a 39 year old female, was inside her vehicle that was parked in front of a residence, in the 200 block of South Governors Blvd., Capital Park, Dover, when she heard multiple gunshots. The victim was struck by one round in the upper torso and was immediately transported by private vehicle to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she is undergoing treatment for her injuries. There were no other reported victims as a result of the incident.

There is currently no description of the suspect or known motive for the shooting at this time.

One .45 caliber shell casing was located at the scene.

Troopers Investigating Serious Crash – I-95 Southbound Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 on southbound I-95, just south of the Salem Church Rd. overpass.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, operated by a 28 year old Middletown woman, was traveling southbound I-95 in the right lane when for an undetermined reason she proceeded off the right side of the road, onto the shoulder, where the front right of her vehicle struck the left rear of a car carrier trailer that was parked on the shoulder.

After impacting the trailer the Jeep overturned and continued in a southerly direction, at which time it collided with a 2014 Toyota Prius and a 2019 Nissan Sentra, both of which were traveling I-95 southbound.

After being struck by the Jeep, both the Toyota and the Nissan came to a controlled stop on the I-95 southbound, right shoulder. The Jeep came to rest in the I-95 southbound right lane of travel.

The driver of the Jeep, who was properly restrained was transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota, a 34 year old Middletown woman, who was properly restrained, was not injured.

The driver of the Nissan, a 54 year old man from France, who was properly restrained, also was not injured.

The car carrier trailer was unoccupied.

Three lanes of I-95 southbound were closed for approximately 4.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
