Troopers Investigating Shots Fired Incident – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2020 at Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix, located at 4060 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle.

As the business was closing an unknown type vehicle drove past the front and an unknown suspect fired two rounds, which struck the front wall and a front window. At the time the shooting occurred two customers who had just exited were standing in front of the business and two employees were inside. None of the four subjects were struck or sustained any injuries. After the shooting, the vehicle fled in an unknown direction. Troopers did recover two 9mm shell casings from the scene. At this time there is no suspect description nor a motive for the shooting.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Delaware State Police Troop 4 To Host 2019 “Year In Review”-Millville

Millville- The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Leadership will be hosting its annual meeting to provide the public with their 2019 “Year in Review”.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., at the Millville Town Hall, located at 36404 Club House Road, Millville.  The conversation will focus on providing the community with a better understanding of how Troop 4 functions and the duties and responsibilities those Troopers handle on a daily basis.  Topics will include a review of the rates of crime, crashes and investigative clearances in Central and Southern Sussex County in 2019, and how enforcement plans have adjusted for 2020.

The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is a great opportunity for the community to exchange ideas for maximum public safety where we live, work, and travel.

*Update #3 Driver Succumbs to Injuries* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash on Coastal Hwy. – Milton

Milton- The driver of the Audi A3 who was injured in a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m., February 8, 2020 on Coastal Highway in the area of Eagles Crest Road, has succumbed to his injuries.  The driver, identified as 31-year-old Andrew S. Hengel of Newark, DE, was initially transported to the Beebe Medical Center with serious injuries and succumbed to those injuries on February 10, 2020.

Troopers Investigating Serious Pedestrian Hit and Run Crash- Seaford

Seaford- The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on February 10, 2020 at approximately 9:54 p.m., when a pedestrian was walking along the edge of the roadway on Middleford Road, west of Old Furnace Road, Seaford.  For unknown reason the pedestrian entered into the travel lane where he was struck by a passing vehicle.  The striking vehicle then exited the roadway and struck a guide wire and a wooden fence, causing property damage.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old male from Seaford, was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The striking vehicle was described as a light blue in color Ford Ranger pickup truck.  The operator fled the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on Middleford Road.  The vehicle should have front end damage.

Troopers Attempting to Locate Missing Juvenile – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are attempting to locate 14 year old Tiara Wilson of New Castle, who was last seen at approximately 2:40 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2020, when she got off her school bus at the intersection of Montpelier Blvd. and Powhatan Rd. in the Jefferson Farms neighborhood of New Castle.

Tiara is described as a black female, 5’5″ tall, 100 lbs. and was last seen wearing a dark gray jacket, royal blue long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, teal blue sneakers and eyeglasses. Attempts to locate or communicate with Tiara have been unsuccessful and there is a concern for her safety and welfare.

Anyone with information regarding Tiara’s whereabouts are asked to contact Troop 2 by calling 302-834-2620 or by calling 911.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash on Coastal Hwy. – Milton

Milton – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 on Coastal Hwy., in the area of Eagles Crest Rd., Milton.

The investigation has determined that a 2020 Toyota RAV 4, operated by a 75 year old Frederica man, was traveling in the right lane of southbound Coastal Hwy., north of Eagles Crest Rd. A 2015 Audi A3, operated by a 31 year old Newark man, was also traveling southbound on Coastal Hwy. in the right lane, following directly behind the Toyota. For an undetermined reason, the Audi failed to slow down as it approached the Toyota and struck it from behind. As a result of the impact the Toyota was forced off the west side of the roadway, where it overturned before coming to rest in a grassy area. The Audi also traveled off the west side of the roadway striking and proceeding through a chain link fence, before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Toyota, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 69 year old female passenger in his vehicle was transported to Beebe Hospital with serious injuries. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Audi was also transported to Beebe Hospital with serious injuries. Impairment is being deemed as a contributing factor in the crash on his behalf.

The investigation is active and ongoing with further details being released as they become available.

Southbound Coastal Hwy. was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Milton – The Delaware State Police are on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 on southbound Coastal Hwy., in the area of Hudson Rd.

As a result of the crash all southbound lanes of Coastal Highway are closed. Motorists will experience extensive delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.
