*TRAFFIC ADVISORY-Newark* Troopers on Scene of Serious Motor Vehicle Crash, E. Chestnut Hill Rd. in the area of Todd Estates

Newark – The Delaware State Police are on scene of a motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 6:17 a.m. this morning, Friday March 20, 2020 on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. (Rt. 4) at Pearson Dr., in the area of Todd Estates, Newark.

As a result of the crash traffic both eastbound and westbound  E. Chestnut Hill Rd. has been reduced to one lane. Traffic is getting by however motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.

Extreme caution should be used on all roadways as visibility is very poor due to fog. Avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Newark – The Delaware State Police are on scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred at approximately 4:42 a.m., this morning, Friday, March 20, 2020, on I-95 northbound in the area of Churchman’s marsh, Newark.

As a result of the crash all lanes of I-95 northbound are closed and the closure is expected to be lengthy. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.

Extreme caution should be used on all roadways as visibility is very poor due to fog. Avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash Involving a Pedestrian – Rt. 40 at Perch Creek

Newark – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 8:08 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2020 on Rt. 40 in the area of Perch Creek, Newark.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, being operated by a 26 year old Bear woman, was travelling westbound on Rt. 40 in the right lane approaching the intersection with Perch Creek Dr. A 2012 Kia Sportage, being operated by a 67 year old Oxford, PA woman was traveling westbound on Rt. 40 in the left lane, slightly behind the Chrysler. Both vehicles were proceeding through the intersection with a green light. A pedestrian began to cross the westbound lanes of Rt. 40 from north to south in the area of the crosswalk located on the west side of the Rt. 40/ Perch Creek Dr. intersection, and walked directly into the path of the Chrysler and was struck. The pedestrian was then thrown into the path of the Kia and struck a second time. Both vehicles came to a controlled stop and remained at the scene.

The pedestrian, a 21 year old New Castle woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation determined that she was wearing all dark, non-reflective clothing and was not carrying a light. It was also determined that she was crossing the roadway against the pedestrian crossing signals. Impairment on her behalf is undetermined at this time. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

Both drivers wear wearing their seatbelts and were not injured. Neither speed nor impairment are contributing factors in their behalves.

Rt. 40 westbound was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Middletown The Delaware State Police are currently operating at a residence located in the 1900 block of Middleneck Rd., Middletown, in reference to an armed subject, that barricaded himself on the property just after 6:00 a.m., this morning, Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Affected residences in the adjacent area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. As a result of the ongoing operation there are the following road closures:

*Update-Victim Identified* State Police Conducting Death Investigation- Selbyville

Selbyville- The Delaware State Police are releasing the name of the of the victim who was located in a wooded area off of Polybranch Road.

The victim has been identified by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science as David T. Hickey, 36, of Laurel, DE.

The cause and manner of death continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science.  At this time there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances related to this death and there is no concern for public safety.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-Clayton

Clayton– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that has turned fatal.

The crash occurred on March 10, 2020 at approximately 3:54 p.m., when a 2000 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on Longridge Road south of Jordan Drive, Clayton. A 2011 Mazda 6 was traveling southbound on Longridge Road north of Jordan Drive. The operator of the GMC proceeded to make a left turn onto Jordan Drive and entered the southbound lane of Longridge Road into the path of the Mazda, striking same.

The operator of the GMC, 84-year-old Richard H. Atkinson of Townsend, DE was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.  On March 13, 2020, Atkinson succumbed to his injuries.

The operator of the Mazda, a 29-year-old female from Dover, DE was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 1 hour while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Investigating Robbery Of Dominos Delivery Driver-Millsboro

Millsboro– The Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery of a Dominos Pizza delivery driver that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on March 14, 2020 at approximately 10:18 p.m., when Troopers responded to the 35000 block of Bay Breeze Lane, Rehoboth Shores, Millsboro, for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival they met with a Dominos Pizza delivery driver, a 56-year-old female who advised that she responded to this location to deliver an order.  Upon arrival, the victim was approached from behind and grabbed by two suspects.  The suspects proceeded to take the victim’s cell phone, an undisclosed amount of cash, and the victim’s vehicle which was later recovered in the pool’s parking lot area of Rehoboth Shores.  The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.

The suspects were described as a tall male and short a male.
