Troopers Investigate Stabbing Incident-Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police are investigating a report of a stabbing incident that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on July 19, 2020, at approximately 9:21 p.m., when Troopers responded to the unit block of Webbs Lane, for a report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival, Troopers located a 17-year-old male victim inside an apartment with a stab wound.  Further investigation indicated that the victim engaged in an altercation with an unknown male subject.  The altercation turned physical and the suspect proceeded to stab the victim once in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Troopers Arrest Juvenile Following Pursuit in Stolen Vehicle- New Castle

New Castle- The Delaware State Police have arrested a 12 year-old juvenile from New Castle after he led them on a pursuit while in a stolen motor vehicle.

The incident occurred on July 18, 2020, at approximately 12:10 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Wawa located at 4000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, for a report of a stolen vehicle. The 41 year-old male victim from New Castle went inside to use the ATM and left his red 2003 Ford Ranger running with the doors unlocked in the parking lot. Upon the victim returning to his vehicle he observed it driving away with a young male operating the vehicle.

Troopers canvassed the area and located the stolen vehicle in a parking lot behind a local area motel. A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver refused to stop and pulled out of the parking lot onto Eastbound West Ave. The pursuit continued onto Lambson Lane where the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car on the 200 block of Lambson Lane. After the crash, the suspect performed a U-turn and began traveling Westbound on West Ave. at a high rate of speed. In the area of 11th Street the suspect failed to negotiate a curve, lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into a guardrail. The juvenile suspect then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit Troopers took the suspect into custody.

The juvenile was then transported back to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (felony)
  • Hindering Prosecution (felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Collision Accident
  • Driving Without a Valid License
  • Careless Driving
  • Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable or Imprudent Speed (2 counts)
  • Failure to Stop At a Stop Sign
  • Failed to remain within a single lane (2 counts)
  • Failure to Report a Collision

The juvenile was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released back to his guardian on $8,008 unsecured bond.

Troopers Investigating Shooting – Milford

MIlford- On Saturday, July 18, 2020, at approximately 9:06 p.m., Troopers responded to Betsy Ross Circle, Milford, for reports of shots fired.

The investigation determined a thin black male suspect with short dreadlocks, shot at an apartment located on Betsy Ross Circle, striking it with 8 rounds. The apartment struck by gunfire was occupied by two subjects at the time, but both were unharmed. The suspect fled on foot towards Montour Rd. and entered an unknown make/model pick-up truck before fleeing the scene. 

At this time there have been no reported injuries as a result of this incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Delaware State Police Detective Baker at 302-698-8435.

Traffic Stop Leads To Drug and Weapon Charges – Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police arrested 26-year-old Jahliek Johnson of Dover, DE, after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a weapon and drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred on July 17, 2020, at approximately 5:08 p.m., when a Trooper observed a gray 2001 Nissan Sentra traveling on South DuPont Highway at the intersection of Walnut Shade Road with suspended registration. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Jahliek Johnson, who was discovered to have an active warrant for Breach of Release. Upon taking Johnson into custody, he advised the Trooper he had a weapon and ammunition stored in a bag behind the driver seat.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the following:

  •  Smith and Wesson .40 caliber loaded handgun with 3 rounds and one in the chamber
  •  (1) Box of American Eagle .40cal S&W 165 grain – 50 rounds
  • (1) Box of Estate Buckshot 12 gauge – 20 rounds
  • (1) Box of Winchester .350 legend 145 grain full metal jacket – 20 rounds
  • 49 loose rounds of Federal Ammunition .40cal 180 grain
  • 18 rounds of Winchester .350 legend 145 grain full metal jacket
  • 12 rounds of Perfecta .40cal S&W
  • Digital Scale

Johnsons was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (felony)
  • Failure to Have Required Insurance
  • Failure to Have Registration Card in Possession
  • EXPIRED TAGS
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Johnson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was released on $7,800.00 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting Incident- Milford

Milford– The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on July 15, 2020, at approximately 5:37 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to Betsy Ross Circle, Milford, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, it was discovered a 32-year-old male, of Georgetown, DE, had been shot in the neck. Further investigation revealed that the male victim was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect in the apartment complex. During the altercation, the suspect produced a hand gun and fired one round, striking the victim. The suspect then fled in a white passenger vehicle in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to a local area hospital and treated for his injury.

There is no suspect information at this time.

*Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash on East Chestnut Hill Rd (Rt. 4)- Newark

Newark– The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2020, at approximately 10:59 p.m., when a 2015 Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on Chestnut Hill Road (DE 4) in the left lane passing Brennen Drive and approaching Old Newark Road. The pedestrian was attempting to cross Chestnut Hill Road, east of Old Newark Road, from the north side of the roadway. The pedestrian entered the roadway directly into the path of the Sonata. The vehicle attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the right but was unable to avoid striking with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was not crossing at a marked crosswalk which one was located east of the collision scene.

The operator of the Sonata, a 31-year-old male from Newark, DE remained on scene.  He was properly restrained and not injured.

The pedestrian, a 43-year-old male from Newark, DE was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Chestnut Hill Road was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Attempting to Locate Georgetown Man for Felony Domestic Charges – Seaford

Seaford- The Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to locate 25-year-old Joshua Jennette from Georgetown who is wanted for felony domestic charges.

The incident occurred on July 15, 2020, at approximately 12:30 a.m., when Troopers were investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Old Furnace Rd., Seaford. Troopers made contact with a 39 year-old female victim inside of a local hospital where she was receiving treatment for her non-life threatening injuries. Troopers learned that the victim had just recently broken up with her boyfriend-Jennette and he was making threatening statements to her. The victim was traveling in her vehicle and Jennette was chasing closely behind her in his vehicle. At the intersection of Middleford Rd. and Old Furnace Rd., Jennette’s vehicle struck the rear of the victim’s vehicle causing it to go off of the roadway and strike an embankment.

Troopers have been unable to locate Joshua Jennette who currently has an active warrant out of Troop 5 for the following:

  • Reckless Endanger First Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)

Troopers Attempting To Locate Lewes Man Wanted for Assault After Stabbing – Dagsboro

Dagsboro- The Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to locate 52-year-old Mark Drummond (picture 2018) who is wanted for Assault 2nd Degree and related charges.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2020, at approximately 4:28 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 34000 block of Chippewa Drive, Dagsboro, in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, Troopers learned that Drummond responded to the residence to confront a 52 year-old male victim from Dagsboro after Drummond was accused of stealing an item from the residence. Drummond and the victim had a verbal exchange that turned physical. During the fight the male victim was stabbed in his right arm. Drummond fled the scene immediately after. There was a juvenile in the residence during the incident, but was unharmed. The victim received medical treatment at a local area hospital for his non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers have been unable to locate Mark Drummond who currently has an active warrant out of Troop 4 for the following:

  • Assault 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious crash that occurred at approximately 10:33 p.m., on July 14, 2020.

As a result of this crash and ongoing investigation, East Chestnut Hill Road (Rt. 4) between Todd Estates and Gender Road is closed at this time.
