*UPDATE-Name Released* Delaware State Police Conducting Death Investigation- Milford

MilfordDelaware State Police are releasing the name of the individual that was found deceased on North Shore Drive, Milford, on August 4, 2020.

The investigation began at approximately 11:45 a.m. when Troopers responded to North Shore Drive for a missing person report. Upon arrival, Troopers learned 73-year-old Gloria Babel of Milford, DE could not be located by a family member, and there was a concern for her safety because the storm Isaias was still active outside.

A search of the surrounding area revealed a large branch had broken off a tree onto Gloria, and she was located deceased underneath.

An autopsy will be performed by the Division of Forensic Science to determine the manner and cause of death.

Delaware State Police Conducting Death Investigation-Milford

– On Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Troopers responded to North Shore Drive, Milford, in reference to a deceased adult female.

The investigation is in the early stages however no foul play is suspected and believed to be storm related. The victim was outside assessing storm damage and was struck with a tree branch that fell from a tree.

The victim will be turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

Further details will be released as they become available and if necessitated.

*Traffic Advisory* Road Closure Route 1 Southbound – Townsend

Townsend – The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a crash involving multiple tractor trailers on Route 1 Southbound at Harris Road. As a result of the crash, all Southbound lanes of Route 1 are closed.

Delaware State Police Arrest Felton Man on Weapon and Multiple Traffic Charges- Lewes

Lewes– The Delaware State Police have arrested 21-year-old Jordan E. Dixon of Felton on weapon and multiple traffic charges.

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, at approximately 2:08 p.m., a Trooper on routine patrol traveling north bound on Coastal Highway (SR 1) south of Dartmouth Drive, Lewes, observed a 1999 Tan Buick Century traveling on the roadway. A computer check revealed the vehicle did not have any insurance and the vehicle registration was suspended as a result. The Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating its emergency equipment but the vehicle continued traveling and failed to stop. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Dixon, committed multiple traffic violations as he failed to stop for the Trooper. Once the vehicle began traveling southbound on School Lane, Lewes, the Trooper observed the operator throw an unknown object from the operator’s side window of the vehicle before coming to a sudden stop. The operator exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. Discovered during a search of the area where the object was seen thrown out the window, was a Taurus 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine discovered near the firearm. A computer check revealed Dixon was convicted of a violent felony previously and is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Dixon was transported to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession Of A Firearm During The Commission Of A Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officers Signal (Felony)
  • Reckless Driving
  • Aggressive Driving
  • Failure to Have Required Insurance
  • Driving Without a Valid License
  • Cancelled Tag
  • Failure to Surrender Suspended Tag
  • Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed
  • Failure to Signal (3 counts)
  • Improper Lane Change (3 counts)
  • Overtaking a Vehicle on the Left (4 counts)
  • Failure to Drive in Proper Lane
  • Overtaking a vehicle on the Right (2 counts)
  • Failure to Stop at Stop Sign

Dixon was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution on an $84,000.00 cash bond.

Felton Man Arrested for Burglary and Related Charges- Felton

Felton– The Delaware State Police have arrested 31-year-old Stephen C. Lemmons of Felton for Burglary and related charges.

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Troopers responded to Hopkins Cemetery Road, Felton, to recover a reported stolen John Deere riding lawn mower and Honda three wheel ATV. Upon investigative measures, Troopers determined the property was stolen from a pole barn located on West Evens Road, Felton, earlier during the day. Lemmons was observed on video surveillance footage on the 67 year old females’ property and driving the lawnmower off the property on the driveway. Lemmons was located at the residence where the property was recovered on Hopkins Cemetery Road and taken into custody without incident. Located on Lemmon’s when he was taken into custody was drug paraphernalia.

Lemmons was transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following crimes:

Burglary 3rd Degree (Felony)

Theft Greater than $1,500 (Felony)

Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and released on a $5,100.00 unsecured bond.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash – Claymont

Claymont- The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early this morning.

The incident occurred on August 3, 2020, at approximately 1:43 a.m., when a 2008 Black Chevrolet Suburban was southbound on Interstate 95 south of Harvey Rd. For unknown reasons, the operator/victim stopped in the right lane of travel, exited his vehicle, and stood outside the driver side door. A 2015 U-Haul Moving Truck was also traveling Southbound I-95, just south of Harvey Rd in the right lane. As the U-Haul truck approached the stopped vehicle in the right lane, the operator attempted to maneuver to the left lane to avoid the collision. At the same time, the front right of the U-Haul struck the driver’s side of the SUV including the victim who was standing in the right lane.

The operator/victim of the Suburban, a 39-year-old male from Wilmington, DE, was pronounced deceased at the collision scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

After the initial impact, the U-Haul truck continued out of control in the left lane before the vehicle overturned and came to rest across both southbound lanes. Southbound I-95 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.

The operator of the U-Haul truck, a 37 year old male from Philadelphia, was properly restrained and treated at a local area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The front passenger, a 34 year-old male from Philadelphia, was not properly restrained and also received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Crash Involving a Pedestrian-Smyrna

Smyrna- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning.

The crash occurred on August 2, 2020, at approximately 1:21 a.m., when an unknown vehicle(s) were traveling southbound S. Dupont Boulevard (SR 13),  just south of Brenford Road. A pedestrian for unknown reasons, was in the left travel lane of southbound S. Dupont Boulevard and may have possibly been in a low lying position when she was struck by an unknown vehicle(s).  The victim came to a final rest in the left travel lane of southbound S. Dupont Boulevard. The unknown vehicle(s) did not stop for the collision.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Ashley Clark of Dover, DE was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for further investigation. 

The roadway was closed for approximately 7 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

At this time there is no suspect vehicle(s) information. State Police Investigating Fatal Crash-Milford

 Milford-  The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred in the limits of Milford.

The crash occurred on August 2, 2020 at approximately 6:30 a.m., when a 2006 Ford Five Hundred was traveling northbound on S. DuPont Boulevard approaching Buccaneer Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted and exited the paved portion of the highway, where it struck a large steel traffic light support post.

The operator, a 19-year-old male from Coatesville, PA, was not properly restrained and pronounced deceased at the scene.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The Milford Police Department requested assistance from the Delaware State Police, Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), who are continuing to investigate this crash.

Northbound S. DuPont Boulevard was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
