*Update* – Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash involving a Motorcycle and a Second Vehicle at the Intersection of De. Rt. 273 & Airport Road – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a second vehicle.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 2, 2020 at approximately 3:59 p.m., during which a 2003 Honda VT6 motorcycle was traveling eastbound in the right thru lane of  Christiana Rd (SR273) approaching the intersection of Airport Road (SR37). The second vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Camry was initially stopped in the left turn lane of westbound Christiana Road (SR273) with a solid green traffic control signal displayed at the intersection of Airport Road SR37. As the motorcycle approached the intersection, the traffic control signal for eastbound traffic was also displaying a solid green light. At the same time, the Toyota Camry initiated a left turn and drove into the path of the motorcycle.

The front of the motorcycle then struck the passenger side of the Camry.  At the time of the crash, the male motorcycle operator was not wearing a helmet. The motorcycle operator was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to his injuries.  Release of the decedents name pending the notification of next of kin.

The male operator of the Toyota Camry did not sustain  injuries as a result of the collision. He was properly restrained and was the sole occupant in his vehicle.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.  Christiana Rd (SR273) between Appleby Rd and Airport Rd was closed for over two hours during the course of the on-scene investigation.

*UPDATE* Troopers Conducting Criminal Investigation within Pencader Plaza Shopping Center- Newark

Newark- On Friday, October 2, 2020, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Newark Bottle Shop Liquor Store located at 140 Pencader Plaza, Newark, for a report of a robbery in progress.

At approximately 9:19 p.m., a Delaware State Trooper arrived on scene and confronted the suspect inside the business. The suspect, in turn, displayed a firearm at the trooper, and an exchange of gunfire took place. The 14-year veteran trooper exited the business and took cover as additional units arrived on the scene. The suspect then barricaded himself inside, and after an approximately four-hour standoff with troopers, the suspect exited the business and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to Troop 2, and this incident remains under investigation. No one was injured during this standoff.

This case continues to be investigated by the Delaware State Homicide Unit. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Troopers conducting criminal investigation within Pencader Plaza Shopping Center – Newark

Newark – Delaware State Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation within the Pencader Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of De. Rt. 72 and De. Rt. 4 Newark, De.  As a result, there will be a large police presence in the area.  Currently De. Rt. 72 both north and southbound in front of Pencader Plaza is closed to traffic.     

The investigation is in the early stages and further updates will be released when information becomes available.

*Update* Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting Incident- New Castle

New Castle- Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is investigating a shooting incident that occurred earlier this morning that left two Wilmington men dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 1:02 a.m., on October 2, 2020, troopers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Casablanca restaurant located at 4010 North DuPont Highway, New Castle. Upon arrival, troopers located a 28-year-old male from Wilmington with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Shortly after, it was discovered a 30-year-old male from Wilmington suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital by private vehicle where he was pronounced deceased.

The names of the victims are pending notification to next of kin.

*Update* Delaware State Police Attempting to Identify Convenience Store Robbery- Millsboro

Millsboro- Delaware State Police is seeking assistance with identifying the suspect who is wanted in connection with the robbery at the Dash-In convenience store located at 24851 John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro.

On September 15, 2020, at approximately 10:51 p.m., the male suspect entered the store and walked up to the counter. The suspect implied he had a weapon, handed the 18-year-old male cashier a plastic bag, and motioned toward the cash register. The cashier complied, and the suspect fled out the back door with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7” to 5’10”, 150 to 170 lbs, and wearing a Nike jacket and  brown moccasin style slippers. There is no vehicle description.

Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting – Newark

Newark- The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred last night and left one man wounded.

The incident occurred on September 30, 2020 at approximately 8:03 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the TownePlace Suites, located at 410 Eagle Run Road, Newark, in reference to a shots fired complaint. Prior to arrival, it was learned that a 28 year-old male from Newark had arrived at a local area hospital for a gunshot graze wound to the back of the head.

Troopers located several casings and a magazine in the parking lot of the hotel.

There is no suspect information at this time and no other reported injuries.
