New Castle– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred at approximately 1:53 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2020, on S. DuPont Highway.

The initial investigation has determined a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox was stopped in the right lane of northbound S. DuPont Highway for a red traffic light at the intersection to Red Lion Road. A 2018 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling in the right lane of northbound S. DuPont Highway and failed to stop. The front of the Freightliner struck the rear of the Equinox, pushing it off the roadway and causing it to spin out of control until it struck a tree.

The operator of the Equinox, a 72-year-old female from Oceanview, DE, and the front seat passenger, a 75-year-old male from Oceanview were properly restrained. Both victims were transported to Christiana Hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Their names are being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the tractor trailer, a 41-year-old male from Ephrata, PA, was not injured as a result of the crash.

Northbound S. DuPont Highway between Route 1 and Hamburg Road were closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Bethany Beach- Delaware State Police are investigating an industrial accident that claimed two individuals’ lives this morning.

On November 2, 2020, at approximately 10:31 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to a reported industrial accident. The investigation determined a 22-year-old male of Puerto Rico and a 23-year-old male of Puerto Rico were working in a Z135 Man Lift to install new antennas for Velex company on the water tower of Sussex Shores Water Company located at 39602 Waterworks Court, Bethany Beach. The individuals were approximately 120 feet off the ground when a strong wind caused the lift to tip over and become tangled in the surrounding electrical wires as it fell to the ground.  

Both individuals were pronounced deceased on the scene.  Identification is pending notification to the next of kin.

One lane of southbound Coastal Highway remained closed for approximately 4 hours as the investigation was conducted.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Division of Forensic Science and US Occupational Safety & Health (OSHA) are assisting with the investigation. New Castle – Delaware State Police are on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred at approximately 1:53 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2020, on South DuPont Highway in the area of Red Lion Road.

As a result of the crash, all lanes of northbound South Dupont Highway are closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel. The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy, with no estimated time for a re-opening.

Millsboro– Delaware State Police have identified the name of the individual who died in a crash on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at approximately 1:54 p.m. on John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road, as 67-year-old Evelyn R. Westover, of Millsboro, DE.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Wilmington– The Delaware State Police are attempting to identify the suspect involved in a shoplifting turned robbery, which occurred at the CVS located at 1605 Telegraph Road, Wilmington.

On October 30, 2020, at approximately 11:29 a.m., an unknown white female suspect concealed multiple boxes of hair dye in her handbag. The store manager of CVS observed the theft and asked the suspect to remove the products. The suspect then removed a box cutter from her purse and pointed at the store manager. The suspect fled the store on foot northbound on Telegraph Road.

The suspect is described as a white female approximately 25-30 years-old, 5’4”-5’5” tall, and wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt.

Millsboro- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at approximately 1:54 p.m. on John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road.

A 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck operated by a 57-year-old male of Millsboro was exiting the parking lot of WMF Watercraft & Marine located at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road. A 2013 Buick Verano operated by a 64-year-old male of Millsboro was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway approaching the intersection. The Ford pulled out from the parking lot, intending to travel west on John J. Williams Highway, directly into the path of the Buick, resulting in the left front of the Ford striking the right front of the Buick.

A 67-year-old female of Millsboro was seated in the Buick’s front passenger seat was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. On October 29, 2020, she succumbed to her injuries. Identification is pending notification to next to kin.

This crash remains under investigation by Delaware State Police Troop 7 Crash Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision should contact Detective K. Selbyville- Delaware State Police arrested 22-year-old Demetrius Jenkins of Selbyville on aggravated menacing charges following an incident on Wednesday afternoon.

On October 28, 2020, at approximately 1:38 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Lincoln Street for a report of a subject displaying a rifle style firearm at four subjects on the property. The investigation determined a 20-year-old female was seated in the driver seat of her vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Lincoln Street when a white Audi pulled up to her driver’s side window. The vehicle operator, later identified as Demetrius Jenkins, asked the female if a family member of hers was at the residence. As she informed Jenkins, the family member was not home; a second vehicle pulled into the driveway on the other side of Jenkin’s vehicle. The vehicle, which was occupied by a 38-year-old female, 20 -year-old female, and a 35-year-old male, continued speaking with Jenkins when he pulled out what appeared to be a black AR-15 style rifle and pointed it at each subject while asking them if they threw a rock at his vehicle. Jenkins fled the scene after the incident.

Jenkins was taken into custody on October 29, 2020, and charged with the following crimes:

• Four counts- Aggravated Menacing (Felony)

Jenkins was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,000.00 secured bond.

Harrington- Delaware State Police arrested 32-year-old Ashley L. Smith of Millsboro on burglary and related charges.

On October 29, 2020, at approximately 3:08 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to a residence on Whiteleysburg Road for a reported burglary. The investigation determined Ashley L. Smith responded to the residence to confront an acquaintance. When she arrived at the home, Smith observed the acquaintance vehicle parked in the driveway. Smith exited her car and kicked in the door to the residence, attempting to locate the acquaintance. When she could not find anyone inside the home, she fled the scene. Troopers contacted Smith by telephone, and she turned herself into Delaware State Police Troop 4.

Smith was charged with the following crimes: 

• Burglary 1st Degree (Felony)
• Criminal Mischief Under $1,000 Damage

She was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on her Own Recognizance.
