*UPDATE- Victim Name Released* Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting at Wawa- Bear

Bear- On October 20, 2020, at approximately 11:58 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Wawa located at 1100 Pulaski Highway, Bear, for a reported shooting. The investigation determined 24-year-old Daniel Haye of Wilmington had an altercation in the parking lot and subsequently was shot twice while standing outside of a vehicle. Haye was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for a gunshot wound to his torso and leg and died on October 21,2020 as a result of his injuries.

This case remains an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective D. Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon and Drug Arrest- Frankford

Frankford- Delaware State Police arrested 26-year-old Devynne U. Hazzard of Millsboro on weapon and criminal charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. 

At approximately 7:09 p.m., a trooper traveling southbound on Clayton Avenue observed a black Chevrolet Trailblazer pulling a car trailer with no registration plate displayed. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and contact was made with the vehicle operator, later identified as Devynne Hobbs, and a male front seat passenger. Upon contacting the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected, and drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view. A criminal investigation ensued, and the occupants exited the Trailblazer. A search of the vehicle resulted in the following items:

  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Approximately 12.40 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 61.55 grams of marijuana
  • Ruger 9E 9mm handgun loaded with 16 9mm rounds
  • Approximately .97 grams of THC wax

Hazzard was taken into custody and transported to Troop 4, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm Within 10 Years of Prior Conviction (Felony)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (3 counts)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Civil Violation)
  • Expired Tags

Hazzard was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $133,901.00 cash bond.

The passenger was not charged with any crimes and was released.

Delaware State Police Arrest Two Juveniles for Theft of a Motor Vehicle- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested a 13-year-old male and 14-year-old male of Wilmington for theft of a motor vehicle.

On October 20, 2020, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to Wawa, located at 694 Naamans Road, for a reported theft of a motor vehicle. The investigation revealed the vehicle was left unlocked and running when it was stolen. At approximately 1:30 a.m., troopers responded to BP Gas Station located at 201 South Heald Street, Wilmington, for the recovery of the stolen vehicle. Through investigative measures, the two juveniles were developed as suspects involved in the incident and were arrested on the following crimes:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)

The 13-year-old male was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and issued a $20,000.00 cash bond.

The 14-year-old male was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on a $2,000.00 unsecured bond.

*UPDATE Subjects located* Delaware State Police Seeking Publics Assistance with Locating Wanted Subjects- Sussex County

Sussex County- Delaware State Police have arrested 42-year-old Iris R. Holland of Millsboro and 47-year-old Jason Kerr of Millsboro on multiple felony theft and related charges.

Since March 2020 through October 2020, Iris and Jason have been involved in seven different felony theft incidents in Sussex County. On October 20, 2020, Delaware State Police received information through Crime Stoppers the individuals were staying at the AmericInn Hotel, Rehoboth Beach. They were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7, where they were charged with the following crimes:

                                       Iris Holland

7 counts- Theft $1500 or Greater and Victim is 62 Yrs of Age or Older (felony)

7 counts- Conspiracy 2nd Degree (felony)

Holland was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $14,000.00 secured bond.

7 counts- Theft $1500 or Greater and Victim is 62 Yrs of Age or Older (felony)

7 counts- Conspiracy 2nd Degree (felony)

3 counts- Selling Stolen Property (felony)

3 counts- Theft by False Pretense

3 counts- Falsifying Business Records

Kerr was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $23,000.00 secured bond.

Bear- Delaware State Police are releasing the names of the victims who died during a boating accident on Thursday, October 15,2020, at Lums Pond located at 3125 Red Lion Road, Bear, as 63-year-old Clyde Knotts of Newark and  65-year-old Fernando Simoes of Bear.

DNREC Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police continue investigating the boating accident.

Bear- Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late last night that left one man wounded.

The incident occurred on October 20, 2020, at approximately 11:58 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to Wawa located 1100 Pulaski Highway, Bear, in reference to a shooting. Investigation has determined a 24-year-old male had an altercation in the parking lot and subsequently was shot twice while standing outside of his vehicle. The victim was transported to a local area hospital and treated for gunshot wounds to the leg and abdomen.

There is no suspect information at this time and no other reported injuries.
