Delaware State Police Continue to Investigate Fatal Hit & Run Accident- Elsmere

Elsmere- Delaware State Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run collision that occurred on westbound Kirkwood Highway west of North Woodward Avenue.

On December 24, 2020, at approximately 7:17 p.m., a 27-year-old male of Wilmington was traveling on a bicycle on the right shoulder of westbound Kirkwood Highway just east of the entrance ramp to northbound RT-141. An unknown vehicle was traveling in the right lane of westbound Kirkwood Highway, behind the bicyclist.  The bicyclist continued westbound into the entrance of the RT-141 entrance ramp and was struck by an unknown section of the vehicle. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The 27-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this accident. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Detective J. As a reminder, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when approaching intersections and off ramps, especially bridges and overpasses. Also, remember to reduce speed and increase following distance between vehicles.

*Update* Delaware State Police Conducting Criminal Investigation- Dover

Dover –Delaware State Police are currently conducting a death investigation that occurred Saturday afternoon.

On January 9, 2021, at approximately 3:52 p.m., troopers responded to the 800 block of Sorghum Mill Road for a criminal investigation. During the investigation, a 75-year-old male victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation has determined there are no safety concerns or threats as a result of this incident. This investigation continues to remain active and ongoing, with further details being released as they become available.

Delaware State Police Conducting Criminal Investigation- Dover

Dover- Delaware State Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation on Sorghum Mill Road in the area of Locust Grove Road. As a result, there is an increased police presence in the area. This investigation is in the early stages but there is no threat to the safety of the community. There are currently no road closures as a result of this investigation. Delaware State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance Locating Attempted Murder Suspect- Bridgeville

Bridgeville- Delaware State Police is seeking the public’s assistance with locating 38-year-old Kasandan C. Clanton of Greenwood, DE, who is wanted for Attempted Murder and related charges.

On December 4, 2020, at approximately 10:30 a.m., troopers responded to a shooting reported in the 21000 block of Mill Park Dr., Bridgeville. Through the investigation, troopers discovered Clanton and the 47-year-old victim were outside the residence speaking when witnesses reported Clanton shot the victim multiple times. During the incident, a round struck a nearby residence, but no other injuries were reported.

After the incident, Clanton fled the scene on foot and attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful. Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with trying to locate Clanton. The public is urged to use caution if they come in contact with Clanton because he is considered armed and dangerous.

Delaware State Police currently have active warrants on file for Clanton’s arrest for the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder 1st Degree- (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited- (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief Less Than $1,000

Felton Man Arrested Following Shots Fired Incident- Felton

Felton- Delaware State Police arrested 20-year-old Robert H. Field III of Felton on felony criminal charges following a shots fired report Thursday night.

On January 7, 2021, at approximately 8:15 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Sandtown Road, Felton, for reports of shots fired. The investigation determined an off duty Delaware State Trooper was in their residence when the sound of gunfire was heard outside. The trooper exited the residence to investigate and could hear the sound of shots nearby, and the sound of shots fired as a vehicle passed the driveway of the home. One shot sounded close enough the trooper could hear the sound of the bullet as it buzzed past. The trooper contacted the dispatch center to report the incident, and patrol troopers were dispatched to the area with the suspect vehicles’ description. The suspect vehicle was located traveling on Black Swamp Road, and troopers contacted the operator, later identified as Robert H. Field III and a 33-year-old passenger of Bridgeville. Both subjects were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3. Spent shell casings were observed in plain view inside the vehicle and along the roadway in the area where the shots were initially heard. Through the criminal investigation, it was determined Field was in possession of the weapon when it was fired. No one was injured during this incident.

Field was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (Felony)

Field was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and released on his own recognizance.

The 33-year-old passenger was not charged and released.

Delaware State Police Investigating Carjacking – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that took place in the parking lot of a McCullough Middle School on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., January 5, 2021, in the parking lot of McCullough Middle School, located at 20 Chase Ave, New Castle. The 34-year-old female victim was seated in the driver seat of her vehicle in the parking lot, when a silver Buick Century pulled next to the victim and a male suspect approached her vehicle. The suspect opened the driver’s door, displayed a handgun at the victim, and ordered her out of the vehicle. The victim complied and the suspect drove away in the victim’s 2019 Kia Sportage. The Buick also fled the scene with the Kia. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered in the city of Wilmington unoccupied.

The suspect was described as an unknown male.

*Update #1* Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Multi-vehicle Collision- Frankford

Frankford– Delaware State Police have identified the name of the individual who died in a crash on January 4, 2021, on DuPont Boulevard at Lazy Lagoon Road, as 68-year-old Dianna L. Jones of Frankford, DE.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and they are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the vehicle that fled the scene after the initial crash. The vehicle is believed to be an older model Tractor Trailer with no sleeper and a grain trailer with a black tarp covering the load. The vehicle continued traveling northbound on DuPont Boulevard.
