*Update* Traffic Advisory- Road Closure and Increased Police Presence-Bridgeville

Bridgeville- This morning at approximately 10:02 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to Coverdale Road south of Mill Park Drive for a report of a suspicious package. 

A community member picking up trash along the roadside found a pipe contraption that he suspected was a pipe bomb. The Delaware State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The device was unable to be positively identified as a bomb and was successfully destroyed. No one was injured during the incident.

The investigation has been turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours during the investigation.

Bridgeville- Delaware State Police is currently conducting a criminal investigation due to a suspicious package being located on Coverdale Road in the area of Mill Park Drive, Bridgeville. As a result, an increase in police presence will be seen and Coverdale Road is closed until further notice.

Newark– Delaware State Police have identified the name of the pedestrian who died in a crash on January 24, 2021, on Interstate 95, as 53-year-old Isaac Fleming of Bear, DE.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday evening.

On January 26, 2021, at approximately 6:16 p.m., a 2015 Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on Shipley Road approaching the intersection of Delwynn Drive. A 1989 Cadillac DeVille was traveling southbound on Shipley Road approaching the intersection of Delwynn Drive. For unknown reasons, the Cadillac drifted over the double yellow lines and began traveling partially in the northbound lane. The Jeep operator was unable to avoid the collision, which resulted in the front left of the Jeep striking the front left of the Cadillac. After the collision, both vehicles spun out of control and became disabled in the roadway.

The operator of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee was a 63-year-old female of Wilmington, DE. She was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the 1989 Cadillac DeVille was an 88-year-old male of Wilmington, DE. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

Shipley Road between Delwynn Drive and Hoyer Court was closed for approximately 3 hours during the on-scene investigation.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Sgt. D. Delware State Police Investigating Shooting Incident – Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred yesterday evening that left one man wounded.

The incident occurred on January 25, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the area of Concord Plaza and Silverside Road, Wilmington, in reference to a shooting. Investigation has determined a 42-year-old male from Brookhaven, PA, was operating his vehicle on Concord Plaza pulling onto Silverside Road, when an unknown suspect inside of a light-colored passenger vehicle stationary on Concord Plaza began shooting at the victim numerous times. The victim was struck by one bullet in the leg. The victim responded to an area hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the upper thigh.

Troopers located eight 9mm shell casings at the scene.

There is no suspect information at this time and no other reported injuries.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving a Tractor Trailer – Middletown

Middletown– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2021, on the exit ramp to Lorewood Grove Road from southbound Route 1.

The initial investigation has determined a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia, operated by a 63-year-old male from Coral Springs, FL, was traveling southbound Route 1 utilized the exit for Lorewood Grove Road. For reasons unknown, the Freightliner failed to negotiate the curve on the exit ramp. The Freightliner rolled over onto its driver side and subsequently struck a guardrail on the south side of the ramp. The impact with the guardrail caused the Freightliner to then rollover onto its roof.

The operator of the Freightliner was property restrained but was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The Freightliner was pulling a trailer loaded with cargo at the time of the collision. The exit for Lorewood Grove Road from southbound Route 1 is closed while this collision is investigated and cleared. The exit for Lorewood Grove Road remains closed.

Seaford- On January 23, 2021, at approximately 6:40 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Park Circle in the Mobile Gardens Community for a reported shooting. The investigation determined 28-year-old Kwantae Hovington of Seaford had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This case remains an active investigation. Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision- Newark

Newark- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred late last night.

On January 24, 2021, at approximately 11:42 p.m., a Nissan Titan was traveling northbound Interstate 95 at S. Chapel Street. For unknown reasons the vehicle drifted off the roadway and into the left shoulder where the left rear side of the vehicle struck a guardrail. The collision caused the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise, until stopping facing southbound in the northbound lane. The operator, a 53-year-old male of Bear, exited his vehicle and attempted to cross all northbound lanes of I-95. At this time, a 2018 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound I-95 in the right lane. The front of the Elantra struck the pedestrian throwing him to the shoulder of the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The operator of the Elantra, a 44-year-old male of Princeton, NJ, was not injured.

Interstate 95 northbound was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Troop-2 Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision should contact Detective Forester by calling 302-365-8485.

Delaware State Police Investigating Armed Robbery of Kent County Convenience Store- Felton

Felton- Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery of a Kent County convenience store that occurred early Saturday morning.

On January 23, 2021, at approximately 3:19 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the Canterbury Shore Stop located at 8953 S. DuPont Highway for a robbery that just occurred. The investigation determined the male suspect entered the business and asked the 50-year-old male employee where Vitamin Water was located in the store. The employee walked the suspect to where the item was in the store and returned to the register at the front of the store. The suspect returned to the front of the store and placed the drink on the counter. As the employee was ringing up the merchandise, the suspect walked behind the counter, displayed a large knife, and demanded money from the cash register. When the employee advised he could not open the register, the suspect started to manipulate the register and was successful with opening it. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store on foot in an unknown direction. No one was injured during the incident, and no surveillance footage or pictures are available at this time.

The suspect was described as a male, 5’8″- 5’10” tall, and weighs 170-200 lbs. He was wearing a face mask, baseball cap, and hooded sweatshirt.
