Delaware State Police Arrest Dover Man After Pursuit in Stolen Vehicle and Resisting Arrest- Lincoln

Lincoln-  Delaware State Police arrested 56-year-old Joseph S. Sanders of Dover on multiple criminal and traffic charges following a pursuit on Monday.

On March 8, 2021, at approximately 11:26 a.m., a trooper patrolling northbound on North Old State Road approaching Fleatown Road observed a white Subaru Legacy make a right-handed turn off of Fleatown Road and begin traveling northbound on North Old State Road before turning into a private driveway. A computer inquiry of the vehicle registration revealed the vehicle was reported stolen on February 26, 2021. The trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the car as it began exiting the private driveway. The operator failed to stop and began traveling northbound on North Old State Road. The operator of the Subaru conducted multiple moving violations while trying to flee from the trooper. The Subaru turned off North Old State Road onto South Walnut Street and then onto Pennsylvania Avenue, a dead-end street. The Subaru operator pulled to the rear of a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue, quickly exited the vehicle, and attempted to hide under a Jeep Wrangler parked in the yard. The operator complied with the verbal commands given by the trooper to exit from underneath the Jeep. As the trooper attempted to place the operator, later identified as Joseph S. Sanders, under arrest, he began actively resisting and fight the trooper. Sanders failed to comply with commands to stop resisting and taken into custody after being tased. Sanders did not require medical attention. During the altercation, the trooper received a minor injury to his hand and damage to his uniform. The trooper did not require medical attention.

A computer inquiry revealed Sanders was wanted on two active Capias’ out of Sussex County Superior Court and was a fugitive from home confinement.

A search of Sanders’ person incident to arrest the following items were located:

  • Approximately .74 grams of Cocaine
  • Approximately 5.94 grams of Marijuana

An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted, and located inside was a large knife with a blade approximately 8″ in length. 

Sanders was transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Receiving Stolen Property over $1500 (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Aggressive Driving
  • Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
  • Possession of Marijuana (Civil Violation)
  • Speeding in Excess of 50 MPH
  • Speeding in Excess of Posted Limit (2 counts)
  • Failure to Signal (2 counts)
  • Driving in Proper Lane and in Proper Direction
  • Fail to remain within the single lane (2 counts)
  • Fail to Obey Traffic Control Devices (2 counts)
  • Fail to Stop at Stop Sign
  • Improper Passing
  • Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree
  • Resisting Arrest with Force (Felony)
  • Assault 3rd Degree
  • Criminal Mischief

Sanders was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $30,900.00 secured bond for the above charges.

Lewes Man Arrested for 7th Offense DUI and Theft of Motor Vehicle- Lewes

Lewes- Delaware State Police arrested 51-year-old David A. Cathell of Lewes on Sunday for his 7th offense DUI after driving a motor vehicle he stole from Jiffy Lube.

On March 7, 2021, at approximately 12:34 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to the area of Jiffy Lube located at 34680 Jiffy Way, Lewes, for a reported stolen motor gray 2014 Toyota Camry. The investigation determined the vehicle was at the location to be serviced when Cathell entered the Camry and began driving northbound on Coastal Highway. A trooper was patrolling the area for the stolen vehicle and located it driving northbound on Coastal Highway north of Broadkill Bridge. A car stop was initiated, and the Toyota turned onto Deep Branch Road before turning into a private driveway and stopping. The operator was taken into custody without incident, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages was detected emanating from Cathell. A criminal investigation ensued, and Cathell was transported to Troop 7. A computer inquiry revealed Cathell had six prior DUI convictions and was driving with a revoked license. Cathell was charged with the following crimes:

  • 7th Offense DUI (Felony)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree
  • Breach of Conditions of Bond (Felony)
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Failure to Signal

Cathell was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $24,201.00 cash bond.

“UPDATE #1* Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash- Delmar

Delmar- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Delmar, MD, man.

On Sunday, March 7, 2021, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a 2018 Suzuki sport-style motorcycle was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway (US 13), approaching the intersection of Allen’s Mill Road in the left lane. A 2005 Ford Escape was stopped at a posted stop sign on Allen’s Mill Road, waiting to cross southbound Sussex Highway and travel north. The Ford moved from the stop sign directly into the path of the Suzuki and was unable to avoid the collision. The front of the vehicle struck the left rear of the Suzuki in the left lane. The force of the impact caused the motorcycle operator to be ejected, and the motorcycle immediately caught fire after coming to rest. The Ford came to rest in the merge lane to northbound Sussex Highway.

The 22-year-old male operator of the Suzuki was from Delmar, MD. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 32-year-old female operator of Milton, DE, was uninjured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3,5 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared. The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Troopers Arrest Dover Man on Criminal and Traffic Charges After Car Stop- Smyrna

Smyrna- Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Deshaun J. Williams of Dover on criminal and traffic charges following a traffic stop on Saturday.

On Saturday, March 6, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., a trooper on proactive patrol in the area of US 13 and Messina Hill Road observed a blue Nissan sedan traveling northbound approaching Messina Hill Road fail to signal properly. A traffic stop was conducted, and contact was made with the operator, Deshaun Williams, and front-seat passenger, 33-year-old Darrell Woodhouse of Smyrna. During contact with the occupants, marijuana residue was observed in plain view, and a criminal investigation ensued. Both occupants were removed from the vehicle, and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. Located in the Nissan was the following items:

  • Loaded FN FNX-45 handgun with 13 .45 ACP rounds
  • Approximately 2.10 grams of marijuana

A computer inquiry revealed Woodhouse had an active capias out of New Castle County. Williams and Woodhouse were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 9.

Williams was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Failure to Signal
  • Possession of Marijuana (civil violation)

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and issued a $10,150.00 secured bond.

 

Woodhouse was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on a $1,000.00 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance With Identifying Felony Shoplifting Suspects- Wilmington

 

 

Wilmington- Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying two suspects wanted in connection to a felony shoplifting incident.

On March 5, 2021, at approximately 1:56 p.m., troopers responded to Best Buy, located at 4807 Concord Pike, Wilmington, for a reported shoplifting. The investigation determined two unknown male suspects entered the store and left without rendering payment for Ring and Arlo security cameras. The suspects fled the parking lot on foot toward M & T Bank and Washington Avenue. The total value of merchandise stolen was over $1,500.00.

The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, and 5’9″.  He was wearing a black zip-up hoodie with white zipper/drawstrings and tan boots.

The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, and 6’00”.  He was wearing a burgundy zip-up hoodie with white and black stripes on the shoulder area and grey sneakers.

Newark Woman Arrested on Drug and Traffic Charges Following Traffic Stop- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested 49-year-old Makia S. Rodgers of Newark on drug and traffic charges following a traffic stop Friday.

On March 5, 2021, at approximately 3:38 p.m., a trooper on patrol on northbound I-95, north of Edgemoor Road, observed a silver Lexus GS350 operating on the roadway with a registration violation. A traffic stop was initiated. Upon contact with Makia S. Rodgers, operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was emanating from the car, and a criminal investigation ensued. A search of the Lexus was conducted, and located inside were the following items:

  • Two marijuana blunts (weighing approximately 3 grams)
  • Numerous types of edible marijuana products (weighing approximately 12,101.54 grams)
  • Approximately $40.00 in suspected drug proceeds

Located on Rodger’s person was $268.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Rodgers was taken into custody without incident and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 1, where she was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession

Rodgers was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on a $6,000.00 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police Arrest Wilmington Man on Drug and Weapon Charges- Wilmington

Wilmington– Delaware State Police arrest Wilmington man on drug and weapon charges.

On March 4, 2021, at approximately 11:26 p.m., a trooper conducting a proactive patrol in the parking lot of Bonsall Park located at 3000 Silverside Road, Wilmington, observed a Hyundai Sonata parked in the parking lot with an occupant inside. When the trooper contacted the operator and sole occupant, 31-year-old Anthony Hardman of Wilmington, the odor of marijuana was detected emanating from the vehicle. A criminal investigation ensued and located on Hardman during a probable cause search was a concealed loaded Taurus G2C 9mm firearm.

Hardman was taken into custody without incident and a during a search of his vehicle the following items were located:

  • Loaded magazine with 12 hollow point rounds
  • Approximately 1.30 grams of marijuana
  • Drug paraphernalia

Hardman was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Civil Violation)

Hardman was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and was issued a $7,600.00 secured bond.
