Newark – Delaware State Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation in the area of Christiana Mall. As a result, there is an increased police presence in the area and Mall Road is currently closed. This investigation is in the early stages and is active and ongoing. Little Heaven – The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred yesterday evening.
The incident occurred around 9:11 p.m. Saturday June 26 as a 63-year-old Rock Hall, MD man was operating a 2009 Nissan Altima southbound on Bay Road (SR1) approaching Exit 88 for Magnolia. A 25-year-old Lincoln, DE man was operating a 2012 Ford Flex northbound on SR1 in the left lane just north of Mulberrie Point Road. A 59-year-old Newark, DE man was operating a 2012 Toyota Camry northbound on SR1 slightly behind the Ford Flex, also in the left lane.
For undetermined reasons, the operator of the Nissan Altima failed to maintain its lane of travel and entered into the grassy median in a southeasterly direction. The Altima crossed completely through the center median and struck the left side of the Ford Flex causing the left rear wheel of the Flex to be torn from the vehicle. The driver of the Ford Flex was able to remain in control of the vehicle and come to a controlled stop on the northbound shoulder of SR1.
The Altima continued in a southerly direction striking the Toyota Camry in an off-set head-on collision. Following this second impact, the Altima redirected in an easterly direction while rotating clockwise and came to an uncontrolled stop facing east after lightly striking the guardrail. The Camry redirected into a northwesterly direction while also rotating clockwise came to a stop in the median facing west.
The 63-year-old male was not properly restrained and was transported to Bayhealth Kent General where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The 25-year-old male was properly restrained and was not injured in the collision.
The 59-year-old male was properly restrained and was transported to Bayhealth Kent General where he was treated and admitted for non-life-threatening injuries.
State Route 1 northbound traffic was impacted for approximately five hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.

Laurel – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early yesterday evening just east of Laurel.
The incident occurred around 7:07 p.m. Saturday June 26, 2021 as a 29-year-old man was operating a 2004 Toyota Corolla southbound on Kaye Road approaching the intersection of County Seat Highway (US9) at an apparent high rate of speed. A 27-year-old Laurel man was operating a 2012 Ford F-250 Pickup Truck westbound on US9 approaching the intersection of Kaye Road. Kaye Road at US9 is controlled by a stop sign and US9 is not required to stop. As the pickup truck entered the intersection of Kaye Road, the Corolla failed to stop at the posted stop sign and the front of the Corolla struck the right side of the pickup truck, causing it to rotate clockwise. As the truck rotated, it began to overturn and continue off the south side of US9 coming to an uncontrolled stop upright on its tires. After the impact, the Corolla traveled off the south side of US9 and struck a utility pole guide wire and came to an uncontrolled stop.
The 29-year-old man (hometown unknown at this time) was not properly restrained and pronounced deceased on scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The 27-year-old Laurel man was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The intersection of Kaye Road and US9, was closed for approximately four hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.

Rehoboth Beach, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Quintaze L. Gross, 39, of Centreville, MD, for robbery and related charges following an incident late Thursday night in Rehoboth Beach.
On June 24, 2021, at approximately 11:31 p.m., a 59-year-old male victim from Rehoboth Beach was at the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Office ATM machine, located at 18949 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach. While preparing his transaction at the ATM machine, Quintaze L. Gross, walked up behind him, put him in a choke hold, and advised the victim he wanted money and threatened to shoot him. The victim was able to get out of the choke hold after struggling with Gross for a short period of time. Gross allowed the victim to respond back to the ATM and finish his transaction and recover his bank card. Gross continued to threaten and demand money from the victim. When the victim showed Gross he did not have any money, he was able to make his way to his vehicle and sit in the driver’s seat. Gross removed the change holder from the victim’s vehicle before spilling it all over the floorboard. He then grabbed the victim’s two cellphone and keys from the ignition and attempted to flee. The victim grabbed Gross’ shirt as he began to run from the scene but he was unable to restrain him. A witness passing by saw the incident and chased Gross. He was able to recover the victim’s cellphones and keys.
Troopers apprehended Gross around 11:48 p.m. as he was walking southbound on Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach. He was transported to Troop 4 where further investigation by detectives revealed he was also involved in another robbery that occurred on June 16, 2021. It is alleged that Quintaze Gross entered the Anchorage Inn located at 18809 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, around 9:34 p.m. that evening and requested change from the male front desk clerk. Gross watched as the clerk obtained the money from a different area in the motel. When the clerk returned, Gross asked for a different variation of money. As the clerk went to obtain the money, Gross followed and shoved the clerk to the ground before grabbing a bank bag. A physical altercation ensued between the clerk and Gross before the he fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The clerk did not require medical attention.
Quintaze Gross was charged with the following:
Gross was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $27,200.00 secured bond.

Fenwick Island – At the request of the Fenwick Island Police Department, the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating an early morning shooting in the town limits.
The incident occurred around 2:43 a.m. Friday June 25, 2021 when a 9-1-1 call was placed to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Sussex County reporting some suspicious activity outside the residence in the unit block of West Atlantic Street. A Fenwick Island Police Officer responded to the house and observed a Jeep Wrangler on fire. The officer and victims were able to extinguish the fire before noticing some bullet holes in siding of the house and a front window shattered. Located in the roadway in front of the home were at least six shell casings that are alleged to have been fired from a handgun.
Further investigation into the incident revealed four females were outside Seacrets in Ocean City waiting on an Uber when they were approached by two males. A conversation ensued and the two males offered to drive the females home. They agreed, but along the way, the females began to feel uncomfortable and asked to get let out of the vehicle prior to their home. A discussion about paying for the ride ensued and one of the victim’s paid the driver $35.00. The four females then went to an undisclosed location prior to going to their house for fear they might have been followed. After feeling it was safe to go into their house, they heard someone talking outside and saw the male passenger from the vehicle walking up to the front door. Soon after, they heard some type of banging on the side of the house and thought the subjects were hitting the house with an unknown object. It was later determined to be gunshots and none of the victims were injured.
The subjects fled the area prior to the Fenwick Island Police Officer’s arrival and he was able to provide a description of the suspect’s black Toyota Tundra to the EOC and Ocean City Police Department (OCPD).
OCPD located the vehicle and the two occupants and were able to take them into custody without incident. Please contact OCPD for information on any charges the two subjects were arrested on as well as photos.
Delaware State Police have obtained warrants on Andre J. Blakeney, 33 of Waldorf, MD and Finis A. Miles, 27 of Clinton, MD for the following charges:
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has also obtained warrants for Blakeney and Miles for Arson 2nd and Conspiracy 2nd.
Both Blakeney and Miles will be arrested on their charges in Delaware upon extradition from Maryland at a later date.

Georgetown, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Victor E. Cruz, 23, of Georgetown, on felony weapon and traffic charges following a pursuit Thursday night.
On June 24, 2021, at approximately 11:34 p.m., a trooper traveling eastbound on Hardscrabble Road west of Shortly Road observed a Volkswagen Jetta approach from behind at a high rate of speed with its hi-beam headlights on. The trooper pulled the fully marked patrol car to the eastbound shoulder, and the vehicle drove past. The trooper activated the emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Jetta. The vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling until turning on Rodney Street in Homestead Mobile Home Park. Once the Jetta came to a dead-end cul-de-sac on Rodney Street, the driver turned the car into the marked patrol vehicle, striking the front right corner. It then pulled away and drove through the yard of a residence, narrowly missing the corner of a mobile home and trash can. Once back on Rodney Street, it stopped in front of a residence in the 20000 block. The driver was taken into custody, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages was detected. A criminal investigation ensued, and located on his person was a Randall’s Adventure and Training ESEE-5 Knife with a 5.25″ blade. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Victor E. Cruz. Cruz was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 5, where he was charged with the following crimes:
Cruz was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $26,007.00 secured bond.
The trooper was uninjured during the collision.

Dover, DE– Delaware State Police arrested Bradley J. Hughes, 21, of Harrington on felony charges following a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Dover.
On June 24, 2021, at approximately 2:31 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of DuPont Highway, north of Walnut Shade Road, observed a gray Ford Fiesta traveling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Upon contact with the unlicensed 16-year-old male driver from Harrington, 16-year-old backseat passenger from Greenwood, and owner of the vehicle/front seat passenger, Bradley Hughes, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. A criminal investigation ensued, and the occupants were removed from the vehicle. Located in the Fiesta was a fully loaded Taurus 9mm handgun and approximately 19.89 grams of marijuana. A computer search determined Hughes was in violation of a Sussex County Superior Court No Contact Order with firearms from a previous case.
Hughes was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:
He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on a $17,002.00 unsecured bond.
The 16-year-old driver was issued a traffic citation for Driving Without a Valid License and Speeding and released.
The 16-year-old backseat passenger was charged with Possession of Marijuana. He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance.

Delmar, DE- Delaware State Police seek the public’s assistance locating Treyvell Toppin, 22, of Milton. Toppin is wanted on felony charges following an altercation last Wednesday.
On June 16, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Treyvell Toppin and the 61-year-old male victim engaged in a verbal argument at Bayly’s Garage located at 36671 Sussex Highway, Delmar. The argument escalated, and Toppin struck the victim in the head with a metal bludgeon. The victim was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma with serious injuries. Attempts to locate Toppin have been unsuccessful, and troopers seek the public’s assistance with locating him.
Toppin is wanted on the following criminal charges:

Lewes, DE- A 19-year-old female that was seriously injured during an accident on June 17, 2021, succumbs to her injuries.
On June 17, 2021, at approximately 5:38 p.m., a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck towing a dual axle dump trailer, operated by a Georgetown, DE man, was traveling westbound on Shady Road approaching the intersection of Plantations Road with a green light. Madison Cunningham,19, of Douglasville, PA, was riding her bicycle westbound on Shady Road in the designated bike lane. As the pickup truck started to proceed through the intersection, the bicyclist failed to see the pickup truck and trailer before turning left and impacting the right side of the trailer within the middle of the intersection. As a result of the impact, Cunningham was knocked to the ground. She was flown to an area hospital where she was admitted in critical condition. On Friday, June 18, 2021, Cunningham died from her injuries.
