Felton Man Arrested After Wrecking Truck and Assaulting Troopers- Milton

Milton, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Dylan L. Martin, 23, of Felton, on criminal and traffic charges after he was involved in a single vehicle accident and assaulted two troopers.

On August 1, 2021, at approximately 3:51 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Coastal Highway and Broadkill Road for a single-vehicle injury accident. Martin was operating his 2021 Chevrolet Silverado on northbound Coastal Highway when he traveled off the roadway and struck a tree with the front center of his truck. A passing motorist located Martin in the vehicle unconscious and called 911. When EMS arrived on the scene, they were able to get Martin to wake up. He was loaded into an ambulance to be transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. While pulling away from the accident scene en route to Beebe Medical Center, Martin became disorderly in the ambulance. He began flailing his arms up and down and struck an EMS member in the chest. The ambulance crew exited the rear of the ambulance and yelled for assistance from troopers at the collision scene. A trooper responded and attempted to calm Martin down but was unsuccessful due to him actively resisting. The trooper called for backup, and when another trooper entered the rear of the ambulance, Martin kicked the trooper in the chest, causing the trooper to be propelled backward towards the open door. As a result, the trooper assigned to Delaware State Police Troop 7 sustained minor injuries. Multiple Law Enforcement Officers responded to the scene and were able to gain control of Martin. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

After being medically cleared, Martin was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault 2nd Degree Injured Law Enforcement Officer (Felony)
  • Offensive Touching of Law Enforcement Officer
  • Offensive Touching
  • Resisting Arrest with Force (Felony)
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Failure to Have Insurance in Possession
  • Failure to Drive in Proper Lane and Direction

Martin was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and was issued a $1,600.00 unsecured bond for the accident and related charges. He was released after posting a $3,000.00 secured bond for the Assault 2nd and Offensive Touching on Law Enforcement.

Troopers Warn Public About Leaving Disabled Vehicles Unattended- New Castle County

New Castle County- Delaware State Police warn the public about leaving disabled vehicles unattended along New Castle County roadways.

Over the past several weeks, troopers in New Castle County have taken an increased number of motor vehicle theft reports. These vehicles become disabled, and the driver leaves them unattended on the side of the road. When the driver returns to retrieve the vehicle, they discover it has been stolen. This crime is a crime of opportunity, and there is no certain type of vehicle being stolen or length of time the vehicle is being left unattended.

To avoid becoming a victim, the Delaware State Police offer the following safety tips:

  • If your vehicle becomes disabled, pull to the shoulder of the road in a very visible location if possible.
  • Call for a tow truck or roadside assistance immediately.
  • Do not leave your vehicle unattended on the side of the road. Wait with your vehicle until help arrives.
  • If you must leave your vehicle, close all windows and lock all doors. Also, turn your wheels toward the curb/edge of the roadway and engage the parking brake. This technique makes it more difficult for a thief to tow your vehicle.

The Delaware State Police hope by following these simple safety tips, you can avoid becoming a victim.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts of motor vehicle cases, please contact with the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit by contacting Detective James Dempsey by calling 302-365-8472. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or via the internet at http://www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
