Sussex County, DE- Delaware State Police Troop 4 will be holding a Community Café on Monday, September 20, 2021. The event will be held at 9:00 a.m. at Evans Park at Millville  located at 32517 Dukes Drive, Millville, DE. The Community Café will have Troop 4 Administration and the Community Outreach Officer in attendance to meet and interact with members of the public. This Community Café is often referred to as “Coffee with a Cop” in other police agencies and is being held in an effort to build a stronger relationship between the Delaware State Police and the communities that we so proudly serve.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance Identifying Vehicle Theft Suspect- Ellendale

 

Ellendale, DE- Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance identifying an individual wanted for vehicle theft.

On August 21, 2021, at approximately 11:20 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the Ellendale Exxon located at 18005 Ellendale Greenwood Highway, for theft of a motor vehicle. The investigation determined the unknown male suspect stole a white 2002 Toyota Highlander (DE 596664) from the parking lot of the business.

The suspect is described as a black male, thin build, and short black braided hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, black pants, black with white Nike sneakers, and a blue COVID mask.

Troopers Investigate Fatal Hit & Run Pedestrian Collision- Wilmington

Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run pedestrian collision that occurred in Wilmington Wednesday morning.

On September 8, 2021, at approximately 4:14 a.m., troopers received a report of a pedestrian located in the right thru northbound lane of DE SR 100 (South DuPont Road), within the area of the intersection with Taft Avenue. The investigation determined an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on DE SR 100 in the right thru travel lane when it struck the pedestrian. The vehicle continued traveling northbound towards the intersection of DE SR 100 and Faulkland Road to an unknown destination.

The pedestrian was not wearing any reflective clothing, not carrying a lighted device, or crossing in a crosswalk.

The 34-year-old male pedestrian from Wilmington was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate this collision. *UPDATE- FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION* Delaware State Police Issue Traffic Advisory-Wilmington

Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police investigate a fatal collision after vehicle was discovered in wooded area.

On September 8, 2021, at approximately 7:58 a.m., an excavating crew working near the intersection of DE SR 48 and Hercules Road, discovered an occupied wrecked 2016 Mercedes CLA in the wooded area. The workers notified 911 and troopers responded to the scene. The investigation determined at an unknown date and time, the vehicle was traveling westbound on DE SR 48. After it cleared the intersection with Hercules Road, it entered into a gradual curve to the right in the roadway. The operator failed to negotiate the curve and traveled across the eastbound lane of travel, south edge of the roadway, and entered into a heavily wooded area. The Mercedes eventually struck a creek embankment and overturned onto the driver side.

The operator of the vehicle was located deceased with the vehicle and has not been identified at this time. The body has been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for a forensic analysis to be completed.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was being conducted.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. It is unknown when and what time the collision occurred. A computer check revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen by Wilmington (DE) Police Department on August 11, 2021 at 0926 hours.

Newark, DE-Delaware State Police have identified the individual who died during a collision on I-95 Northbound north of DE-273 on September 6, 2021, as Ghana S. Sims, 27, of Philadelphia, PA.

Troopers Investigate Armed Carjacking at Convenience Store- Claymont

Claymont, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred this morning at a convenience store in New Castle County.

On September 7, 2021, at approximately 7:51 a.m., troopers were dispatched to a carjacking at Exxon, located at 3700 Philadelphia Pike Claymont, DE. The investigation determined the 52-year-old male victim was seated in his 2013 Acura MDX while fueling his vehicle. While seated, two male suspects approached the car from the rear and opened the victim’s door, which was left cracked open. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The victim refused to give the suspects his keys, resulting in the second suspect physically assaulting him. Both suspects pulled the victim from the Acura, entered it, and fled Northbound on Philadelphia Pike. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

The unknown suspects are described as black males in their early 20’s, wearing masks. No surveillance photographs are available.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., Delaware State Police were notified the victim’s 2013 Acura MDX was recovered in Philadelphia.

This case remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit. Delaware State Police Investigate Early Morning Assault- Georgetown

Georgetown, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating an assault that occurred early Monday morning that left a 24-year-old Georgetown man injured.

On September 6, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the 24-year-old male victim was walking westbound on Old Furnace Road west of Rum Bridge Road. As a vehicle drove close to the victim as he walked on the roadway, he made a hand gesture to the vehicle. After the car drove by, it turned around, and approximately three or four subjects exited. The victim attempted to remove a pocket knife he had on his person to defend himself but was assaulted by the subjects before he could protect himself. During the altercation, one of the subjects took the victim’s knife and cut him with it. They then reentered the vehicle and fled the area in an unknown direction.

The victim contacted an acquaintance and was transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle for medical treatment. He was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a thin build, approximately 6′ tall, black male. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

The second suspect is described as an average build, approximately 5’8″, white male. He was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts.

There is no additional suspect information.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Kia Soul.
