The roadway will be closed for an extended period of time due to a traffic accident in the area. Motorist are urged to seek alternate routes of travel to avoid long delays.

Dover- Delaware State Police have identified the individual who died in a fatal crash on September 26, 2021, as 22-year-old Logan Haxton of Hartly, DE.

Delaware State Police Arrest a Lincoln Man on Criminal and Traffic Charges- Ellendale

Ellendale, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Javon D. Currie, 25, of Lincoln, on criminal and traffic charges following a traffic stop Sunday night in Ellendale.

On September 26, 2021, at approximately 7:44 p.m., a Delaware State Trooper was traveling directly behind a silver Chrysler 200 eastbound on Beach Highway, south of the South Old State Road intersection. A computer inquiry conducted on the vehicle revealed the registered owner and operator, Javon Currie, had a suspended driver’s license and two active capiases for his arrest. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Southern Grille of Ellendale parking lot located at 13239 South Old State Road, Ellendale. Contact was made with Currie, and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a handgun magazine with 10 9mm Luger handgun bullets, a Canik TP9SF 9mm handgun, drug paraphernalia, and approximately 47.48 grams of marijuana.

Currie was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 7 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving While Suspended 
  • Display of Suspended License
  • Possession of Suspended License

Currie was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and released on a $30,602.00 unsecured bond.

Troopers Investigating Shoplifting Turned Robbery – Claymont

Claymont – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shoplifting turned robbery that occurred at the Home Depot late Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m., Sunday, August 26, 2021, at the Home Depot located at 601 Naamans Rd., Claymont. The investigation determined an unknown suspect attempted to exit the business without paying for large merchandise. A 20-year-old female employee confronted the suspect who subsequently displayed a knife at the victim. The suspect exited the store with the stolen merchandise and returned to a blue sedan parked within the Home Depot parking lot and fled the scene. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 40 years of age, 5’6” tall, 150-160 lbs., wearing a dark colored shirt, gray shorts and black sneakers.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash- Middletown

Middletown- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred this morning on southbound Route 13 south of Hyett’s Corner Road.

On September 27, 2021, at approximately 12:18 a.m., a 2011 Nissan Versa was traveling southbound on Route 13 approaching the intersection with Hyett’s Corner Road.  The 20-year-old female operator of the Versa merged from the left lane into the right lane of travel.  At this time, a pedestrian was walking northbound on Route 13 within the southbound right lane of travel.  The front of the Versa struck the pedestrian causing the pedestrian to be thrown to the right shoulder.  The Versa came to a controlled stop within the right southbound lane of travel. 

The 36-year-old pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identification of the victim is pending notification to next  of kin.

The area in which this collision occurred is not illuminated by artificial lighting.  The pedestrian was not wearing any type of reflective clothing and was not carrying a flashlight.  The pedestrian was also not within a marked pedestrian crosswalk.

Route 13 southbound at Hyett’s Corner Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision- Dover

Dover- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Sunday morning on Pearson’s Corner Road north of Halltown Road.

On Sunday, September 26, 2021, at approximately 3:45 a.m., a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Balzer was traveling southbound on Pearson’s Corner Road north of Halltown Road (Rt 8).  The Chevrolet was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to maintain its lane of travel. The Chevrolet left the roadway and then entered it again where it lost control and began to rotate in a counterclockwise direction.  The Chevrolet left the roadway a second time still traveling in a southeasterly direction until its front passenger side struck a large tree. The impact caused the Chevrolet to roll over and travel out of control until coming to a stop after the front passenger side struck a second tree.

The 22-year-old male operator and sole occupant of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification to the next of kin.

Pearson’s Corner Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was being investigated and the roadway cleared.

Troopers Investigating Attempted Carjacking – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that took place in the parking lot of the Acme yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the parking lot of the Acme located at 1901 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A 68-year-old female victim placed groceries into her vehicle and walked to put her shopping cart away. Upon returning to her vehicle there was a male suspect standing waiting for her and asked for her car keys. The victim attempted to walk away, but the suspect approached her again and demanded the keys. The victim began screaming and ran back to her vehicle. The victim was able to drive off without being injured. The suspect then entered an unknown dark colored vehicle and fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 5’5”-5’10” tall, 180-200 lbs. There are no surveillance images available at this time.

Two Injured in Crash near Millsboro

Millsboro – The Delaware State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday evening northeast of Millsboro.

The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. Saturday September 18, 2021 as a trooper on patrol was southbound on Gravel Hill Road behind a blue 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The Sonata was traveling above the posted speed limit and upon coming to a stop at the intersection with Mount Joy Road, signaled to turn right onto Morris Mill Road, but made an abrupt turn left onto Mount Joy Road. The trooper activated the emergency equipment on the fully marked patrol vehicle and the Sonata failed to stop and accelerated at a high speed away from the trooper. The Sonata then passed a vehicle on a solid double line and lost control striking a telephone pole before overturning and striking a tree.

The 30-year-old male operator from Milton was not properly restrained and was airlifted by State Police Aviation to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

A 28-year-old female passenger from Milton was properly restrained and was transported by LifeNet Aviation to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

This investigation is on-going and charges are pending on the operator to include Vehicular Assault 2nd, Disregarding a Police Officers Signal, Speeding, Reckless Driving, and other traffic related offenses.
